Title: Swirls!
Post by: zoomered on July 23, 2011, 08:45:43 pm
Right!

Im a qualified painter and a perfectionist when it comes to my own car so go easy on me   :stupid:

Ive machine polished with Farecla G6, then poorboys SSR1, then Autoglym Extra gloss to seal, then Poorboys Natty's wax. The results were amazing and i was really chuffed. Not a swirl in sight!! Direct sunlight, Mint. Was loving it, and the comments from people.

Meant to say, she's Laser Blue and is the first good car I have ever owned in a dark colour, personally because i think its the best for the GTI.  I have always owned silvers etc cause i find them far easier to keep and it was a big worrying decision to go for this colour because deep down i knew this would happen.

My Problem.. Ive now only washed her once and again I can see them coming back! Am i doing something wrong? Wrong product? Not enough SSR1? Wrong Sealant? Not enough layers of wax? Wrong Suds?

They arn't bad by any means just like what I said in my first paragraph, im just a tad fussy! Also im concerned the neighbours think I have OCD as ive now been through this process twice.

Please Help,

Many Thanks

How are you washing it? Two bucket method is probably the best to make sure no grit or anything is left in wash mit.
How you drying it?
Could be many different things. I'm no expert but I'd presume it's in them steps if it's fine before n swirls after.

Im pretty sure the problem comes as your only filling the swirls when your polishing. You need to do an ipa wipe down between polishing stages to get a true idea of the amount of swirls.

When you come to washing your pulling out the fillers of the polishes. There are lots of people who can polish a car and make it look ok and improve the swirls but as soon as the ipa comes out, it looks the same as before. There are even some people trading as detailers who can't get a swirl free finish when using ipa

As Jay has said, you need to do a wipedown between polishes. All polishes will leave oils or other products behind that fill in swirls. Then as they evaporate or degrade, the loss of filler reveals the true finish.

I think JPC mention above it's called IPA.

thanks. So does that mean i need to do more work with the ssr1 and then wipe before finishing with sealant etc.
Or is there something else better for the job?

I think it's boothy's thread where I posted links to the polishing guides on detailingworld. Make sure you dilute down the IPA to 10-20%.
