Title: German plates no no
Post by: johnboy07 on July 29, 2011, 12:38:45 pm
well think i jinxed myself last week saying i had never been pulled for my plates. Got pulled last night and fined £60 for them and told if he saw me again with them on after 14days i would be going to court. ooops. Lesson learned. So bought myself some number plate surrounds to improve the look of the standard plates. Going on holiday tomorow and car is back in the garage with the steering rach problem being sorted again so will post up some pics of them on the car when im home. Think im going to adapt the front surround to fit the curve of the front bumper better. Anyways these are the surrounds i went for .

You can get legal metal pressed plates, has to be UK font obviously and as long as it complies with BSAU then should be fine, eg:

i did say to the traffic officer that pulled me about pressed plates arent always illegal and he said they were as the surfaces are not deemed as properly reflective. May buy these and keep a copy of them saying they are legal incase he pulls me again. thanks  :happy2:

I prefer the 3D gel ones myself, might get some of those.

Not much luck with your steering rack? I'm going down APD tomorrow, guess I might see your car there again, lol!

How do you get those surrounds to fit the curved front on a mk5? I didnt think they would bend that far? - and if they do wouldnt that pose a problem regarding fitting the plate?

I've got these plate surrounds fitted on the front and rear of my car and your right the back will be fine but i decided to remove the curved standard plate mount from the grill and put the plate surround straight onto the grill  :happy2:

Can get them from awesome for just over a fiver each

I know smugness won't help and will probably make you hate me but:

Nice motor mate,
Look forward to seeing the updates as and when.
Best mod you could get now is legal pressed plates.

(replied in your build thread)
Dubmeister do them as others have said, or if you don't fancy posting your documents, at a few shows I have been to recently then you can get them on the day (and not need to show paperwork)
That's what I did at Inters as my front plate fell off coming back from DC.
