Hi all,
Cant make my mind up whether: Buy a gti with dsg or get a remap, clutch and maybe turbo refurb (car on 97k), unsure as the gttdi is 4motion and the gti being 2wd,
What are the gti's like at putting the power down?
what is the dsg gear box like?
opinions would be great
thanks craig

Any opinions?

TDI (with 4motion) will put the power down better, the GTI will be quicker though, depends which you want. the tuned TDi will be just as quick as the (standard) GTI until triple figures..

I have the 2.0 tdi 4motion and my mate has the gti. In a race as such he wins quite easily but acceleration my car seems to be best, maybe the 4wd thing? not sure however... once i get it remapped which will top 190... it wont be that far off the speed of the gti. Imo.. the tdi is the better of the two as once remapped my fuel will still be better off than the gti. It all comes down to what u actually need.. i use the tdi for getting from and to work and thats a distance so the diesel benefits me.

The GTI wins hands down every time. Your talking about a modified TDI against a standard GTI, the GTI will remap to 240 which will leave the TDI no matter what stage of tune it is. The DSG box is great, use the search button as there have been loads of threads.
Not to mention the GTI has a better noise, handles better, brakes better etc. Basically the GTI is ready out of the box, whereas the TDI is manufactured with economy and comfort in mind.

Like I said.. Its down to what u want. Comfort and Economy or Performance and not to economic.

I have around £1000, so do I remap and get a new clutch etc for tdi or sell mine and use the £1000 and spend about £7000 on a gti? Have had 2 mk4 tdi's and this mk5 tdi but the gti looks and sounds better but fuel economy takes a hit lol
Decisions. Decisions

It is a hard one. I had the choice on both when i went to buy. In the end i spent 10 grand on a tdi. I had a petrol mk4 and that wasnt good on fuel lol. So thought i'd change to diesel, im looking into remaps now and hopefully gona get one before the turn of year.

depends what you want from the car....i had the same problem last year, wether to be sensible and buy a tdi and map it or buy a gti. i ended up buyin an A3 2ltdi and had it mapped to over 200bhp but it still felt boring, the noise wasnt nice at all and it had no sharpness in the corners. ended up getting rid of it and buying the golf gti, wish i done it from the start tho instead of wasting money on the audi. if its the pleasure of driving, the speed, the noise, the exceleration then buy a gti and get that mapped and i garauntee you wont look back! im sure alot of the boys on here will tell you that if you drive sensibly you can get some decent mpg from the gti :happy2:

I am planning on getting a remap for the GT 140 organised today through Shark Peformance - I've asked them for as smooth a power delivery as possible, as I have my concerns about the strength of the turbo, (2 fellow briskodians have had their turbo blow in the PD140, one of them took out the cat also :surprised:).
As previously mentioned, the 4 motion will put the power down better but the GTi but it will still be eaten for breakfast, when we collected the Golf swmbo drove the vRS back, at one point I thought wow, this is doing good against a remapped Tfsi, then I realised the missus was toying with me as she disappeared in to the distance.........!
