I had my car in for "timing belt" "waterpump" "dsg oil change" plus an m.o.t, they told me i was due for a service (refresh) on my air con, I said not just now no cash left :( . Got my car back and all seemed fine, but put my air con on later that day and it now seems very noisey and it gets louder when I accelerate ? did not sound like this before it went to VW (main dealer) have called them and it's booked back in on Thursday. Any ideas on what's happened ?

Is it a light taping / squeak like noise? I have the same issue, been told that its a belt on the a/c
-
is the noise only there when the aircon is on? if putting aircon makes it go, then it could be compressor...had that happen on wife's audi...£600!!!
-
It's like cracking and popping but louder than I've ever heard before, and a whizzing sound that speeds up and gets louder when I rev the engine ? I do have a warranty hope it's all covered :(
Yes only when air con is turned on.

I have a whizzing/whining noise that is based on revs plus I can only really hear it inside rather than inside the engine bay - again, only with air-con on.
I've had a history of air-con leaks and air-con has now stopped working again, dropping it off at dealers tonight (which is not VW but have a warranty with them).
Could you update with comments from VW when yours has been in?

I still have a cheap aircon pump in the parts section

When I had my belt replaced the aircon became a little noisy.......6 months later it went ka-boom! I reckon its the added tension in the new belt putting more pressure on the aircon pulley that causes it but i could be talking out of my posterior.
If thats the case then I'd be snapping up Tfsi-Mikes compressor as it cost me around the £800 mark for mine sorting.

Took car into VW today and it's nothing that they touched when I had the work done ? My compressor is f###ed and it will need to be replaced, but it is covered by my warranty so not at my expense . So it's booked in next week.
-
Pheeeeeeew! Save a few pennies then :happy2:
-
Yes :) so glad i have the warranty. The noise had gotten quieter over the week and i was so tempted to call and cancel appointment :stupid:

Great news on the diagnosis and warranty repair! How old is your car?
I have had slightly less luck. The dealer (not VW) have told me that the compressor is fine but there is ANOTHER leak somewhere in my air-con system despite the two new hoses. They have done UV checks on the pipework and can't find anything so it's having the bumper and heat shielding removed so they can do a thorough check for leaks - what a nightmare!
They mentioned that compressor has a viscous coupling so is always rotating so if faulty they would know even without gas. Does that sound believable?
Luckily I'm not having to pay for any of this.....
