Hey all,
I finally got around to getting myself a claying kit during the week, and set about cleaning the car yesterday.
Now while I am very happy with the results, I still have some spots of tar that I just can not shift. I went over the area many times with the clay but am unable to shift a few bits here and there. Was so happy to see so much come off but would really like to get these last bits off. Black spots tend to stand out so much on Silver paint work. :)
Any ideas where I can go from here? Do I need a more agressive clay to get at these?
Cheers

what clay did you buy?
it probable you need a more aggressive clay to get the tar spots off.
But with a more aggressive clay comes more of a chance of damaging the paint.
You need to be much more carefull with an aggressive clay as they can mark the paint easily if they are not kept properly lubed or warm enough.
Also, with your existing clay, dont be applying too much pressure.
you say you have been over the area many times, just be careful your using enough lube and your not doing more damage.

I got the Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay Kit. For most of the body I was gentle just wiping it over the bodywork, very suprised at the amount of dirt it was fetching off. But went back a couple of times to a couple of areas (boot, lower door, wheel arches) and was a bit more agressive focusing on literally a spot of tar. A lot of them came off with a bit more attention, but there were a couple that decided they wanted to stay on.
I could not see any marks on the on the paint, and always careful to make sure there was plenty of lube on the body. I might try another clean this weekend and see what happens. If it still refuses to shift maybe a bit more agressive clay and be really careful with it.
Cheers

tried wd40?

AutoSmart Tardis works a treat. See if you can get a small sample.

yep, i would have suggested tardis, but you'll be lucky to buy it in anything other than 5litres. which will cost about 25 quid with postage
-
Thank you very much for the replies guys. I just threw AutoSmart Tardis into google and got some hits on eBay for about £8 so will have a wander over there and see if I can pick something up.
Thanks again chaps.

Yes 5ltrs. Usually the rep will give you a sample. If i had any sample bottles i'd send you some. This stuff eats spray bottles.

like i said, wd40 may help. you most likly have it already..? so worth a try

Hi Top Trump,
We can get a sample of the Tardis over to you - or we have some more aggressive clays available too if that's any help

You can always get AG bug and tar remover from halfrauds to help with that.
