I'm guessing (on my bf's behalf) that the 1st would suit us better, Man poo are kicking off early on the 15th.

Would you both be rolling your rides, or just one car?

Not being a footie fan I had to work out what you meant by "Man poo" - Some nasty images came into mind - Thanks for that, Mandy!

I might have to be selfish and throw in another date option in early November as I definitely cannot make 1st October. It's not important I attend but I'd like to if I can.

I'm up for either of these dates. I've never done a rolling road day before and it would be good to meet a few of you.

RR, if you do decide to see interest on an early November date I'm away in Rome on the weekend of the 5th but can do any other weekends

....I've told you before that we don't want you to pole dance at our meets.

I'm not sure if I can set up a poll after a thread is started. But the list in my first thread is a sort of poll, or at least shows numbers to dates.

I see you've added Nov 12 to your 1st post, that's good for me aswell.

I'm sure the mods could add a pole if req, but your 1st post is good enough

I'm thinking that if Saint Steve and jammer can do either 15th October or 12th November, nearly everyone else can do those dates and so we can dump 1st October and narrow it down and choose one.

It looks like we're into double figures already if we go for October 15th, so I'll let Kate know on Monday.

I'll then rewrite the thread title and first post with details etc as usual.

Really sorry to those who can't make this date.

Where is this taking place mate?

....JKM @ Portsmouth. I'll be posting exact details in the first post of this thread on Monday.

Post to let me know if you are wanting to go on the dyno   :happy2:

Voyeurs are of course welcome but I don't need to know if they are attending. We need at least a dozen folks on the rollers to make it worthwhile for JKM to give up their Saturday home lives for us.

There sonetimes rolling road days at AMD near Lakeside but the last one on here didn't get alot of interest or commitment for some reason. Not sure if there's any others round here that's why I'm making the trek down to Portsmouth it's less than 2hours on a clear run as done it the ther weekend. I done it the other week in quite a bit less and it's a good journey with a brilliant new tunnel that makes the car sound good

[I have been in touch with JKM and they can offer us October 1st or 15th, or November 12th when Jim is back after being a daddy again. I've suggested that we all want to watch the birth and JKM could easily setup the dyno room as a maternity ward with video screens etc etc. There are also a couple of dates in November but Jim is about to be a daddy again and therefore a meet then could be at last minute risk.

If folks would like to register their interest and preference in which date here I can then book the date and organise it.

....No, it's not an exclusive 'club', forum, nor Golf event - You'd be most welcome. JKM's rollers won't take quattro or 4WD though, so it depends which TT you have.  :happy2:

Ah that's OK then. Well I have a MK2 FWD 2.0tfsi on a K03 so would just be interesting to see what power it is putting out on a stage 2+ remap. Not going with Revo but a 2+ equivilant. If I'm free that weekend then I would love to come along. It's probably an hour away so could be pretty convenient. I will keep you guys updated.

I'd be up for this as I've just had Revo stage 1 but not dyno'd yet. Might be tricky for me to get down there for 9am though as I'll be coming from North London. If I got there a bit later like 11 or 12 o'clock would that be OK?

I'd be up for this as I've just had Revo stage 1 but not dyno'd yet. Might be tricky for me to get down there for 9am though as I'll be coming from North London. If I got there a bit later like 11 or 12 o'clock would that be OK?

May i suggest you wake up and earlier then normal?

I'm leaving Essex at 7:00 so should be down between 8:30 and 9:00, shouldn't be to much linger from North London, esp that time of the morning

I'll be up for coming down from Kent - to put some names to faces and to see how the old girl is running.

Would it be ok to bring along a mate that owns a heavily modified Fabia vRS? He's keen to see what his car puts down on JKM's RR after some good results at various other tuners.

We'd be driving down from Dartford, so if any Kent/Essex based members wanted to meet up and convoy down, that would be good.

cheers  :happy2:

Actually, apart from the fun of who makes the biggest bhp on the rollers a dyno session is a great way of checking the health of an engine regardless of how poerful it is or not. It's all relative. I find it reassuring to know there aren't any problems which may not be obvious.

JKM? And, if so, why does it matter? - Everyone who attended will know their results.

At least it will stop it in-growing for good so it's not all bad.

If you want I will video it for you. Second thoughts maybe not as I watched the first time they did it and that put me off for the second time.

Unfortunately my car isn't going to be ready in time for the weekend. Fuel pump hasn't been sorted out yet nor 2+ software to match so I will have to bail. Sorry about that, thought it would be ready! Big shame as JKM are fairly near by and would of loved to go to a RR day. When might the next one be? Next year I'm guessing?

A quick question, will anybody be coming who has an android phone or any phone that can sent pictures by bluetooth to another bluetooth device? I want to put some new wallpaper on my parrot bluetooth but my iPhone will only send to other Apple devices. The pic I want to use is this one.

Running order will be much the same as how people signed on due to not knowing everyones cars. A few changes have been made to try and group the VW together and Skodas together.

Last time i spoke to him i believe he was coming. He did have some misfire issues that are now solved so id imagine so. Im sure he will be about later to comfirm. Alex stays so quiet when it comes to his mods so will be good to see how it performs and also to see how yours compares to the figures last rr which were slightly up from your previous.  :popcornsoda:

Hi

If I turn up tomorrow, am I likely to get a run on the rollers? I won't know until much later, so I can't commit yet.

If I can  make it, the car is 2005 Gti with a Shark remap and nowt else in the engine department. I do have a Polar Fis Advanced if anyone fancies a look at what they do.

Also I will bring the average age up more towards RR.

Tell me about it

Bloody bluefin has corrupted now, lost my original file and my remap file.....this just goes from bad to worse

On the plus side of investigation, it looks as though the map may not even be installed on the car anymore!!

@Mike Stage 2 - should be seeing around 300BHP with about 320ft/lb of torque. What I'm seeing is lower than stage one and the graph just looks odd. Its not progressive at all.

Maybe he would benefit from a DSG remap to increase the oil pressure in the clutch pack.

I don't drive it very often these days so if something was changing gradually I wouldntve noticed. Its possible its been like that from when I mapped it back in  May - as it still would've been faster. Its just hard to tell how much faster!

Anyone running what they should or over???

237bhp - stage one

Small problem that my car seems to be requesting more fuel than my standard pump can provide, so currently have a dip on my graph between 3-4k.

Looks like a fault with my fuel pump is the cause, so have booked it into JKM for further investigation, a change of follower and possibly a new HPFP.

Big thanks to JKM for hosting us and for the extra time spent diagnosing my car towards the end of the day - really went above and beyond on a RR day. Before today, I had never been to JKM. After today, it's quite possible that I won't go anywhere else  :happy2:

It's a decent trip down and only takes about 1h 20ish, so not really that bad

Nice to see everyone today... Jurys out of whether i have Clutch Pack issues or not. After running 275bhp on a toned down Stage 2 Bluefin Map with 320 Ilb ft of torque. Could not replicate the fault that Jim from JKM was concluding too. He said its only the 2nd Ed30 to show these symtoms with issues with getting the revs down on the rollers on throttle up.. It maybe something as simple as the ESP interferring on throttle up, as mine sometimes with the ESP on , on new tyres, cuts the power off and you almost headbutt the steering wheel!! :fighting:

All i know is Dwaine's 309 bhp Revo car, couldnt make ground on the motorway on me , so i know she's pulling like a train and not showing signs of any kind of clutch slip.. Im just going to enjoy the car as she is

Weird Fault with Alex's car, but on closer questioning, alex error'd loading the map apon origonal Load up, and by the sounds of it, has corrupted the install.Kind of like my car did last time out when it ran stock power!.

I remember that. I'd laugh but I'd inadvertently set it to some kind of valet mode B1T6F9 or something like that.

Mine was a rather unsavoury 248BHP - something very wrong with my map

Initial investigation looks like the ECU map is corrupt but i need to try and reload the super chips map and see what happens

That sucks, but on the plus side, the rolling road day served more of a purpose than originally expected.

I guess the expectation is that the solution lies with getting your current map sorted with the supplier, but if for some odd reason that doesn't work out, I have a Shark box which could be used to put one of their maps on.

Enjoyed meeting people today and putting names to faces, will upload the pics tomorrow as took a few. Definitely wanna do more to the car after today. Well chuffed it hasn't lost any power from new and is running well.

Enjoyed the drive down with Gareth and drive back with Dwaine, especially hearing his in the tunnel, think the exhuast and R32 rear has gone above the RNS now lol.

Definitely gonna be at the next one

Great meeting you guys down there today and really enjoyed the drive down the A3 - I can feel a few more trips down there coming on    I made 236 with Revo stage 1, Rev d DV and Pipercross filter. That was kind of what I was expecting so I'm pleased with that. It's a long way off the 255 that Revo claim but I knew it would be  :signLOL: Here's the graphs.

Aye thats the expectation. Hopefully it'll all be sorted this week - biggest issue is its hard to know the true BHP without getting it RR'd again, but I can't say I want to spend excess money trying to sort this. Might just ask for a stock Stage 2 map and see how things go with it!!

Cheers for the offer - will bear that in mind if I have issues.

Go for a drive pre and post uploading the replacement calibration file and log ECU parameters with VCDS - a few pulls in 3rd at WOT measuring RPM, AFR, Ignition, Inj duty, MAP and MAF values should give you a good idea what the change is, and counter any placebo issues with your bum dyno.

Well heres an odd thing....just logged the car. Peak MAF is 247.97, which by my calculations works out to 309.96

That leaves me a little confused that they got 248 on the rollers, when the MAF calculation says otherwise and more like what it should be

Confused isn't the word!!!

Though it does feel a little flat in 3rd gear so Im to assume something isn't right....but it don't really know if it is or isn't at this point  :stupid:

:fighting:

Cheers Ben.
I need a new fuel pump hense why my map was turned down towards stage 1 by superchips after my request too.

Robin cant keep up with me on the road, as he has told me, so my 275bhp result i know isnt a true reflection on how the car goes on the road .
Dilema is do i buy a new stock fuel pump and put Phylis back on stage 2 code and Risk my Clutches in my dsg as Jim at jkm suggests might be why she was playing silly buggers on the rollers.I cannot get the clutches to slip no matter how hard i try on the road

Hes only seen 2 edition 30's do this, mine and hedges old Edition 30 with funny enough, a Superchips map at the same state of tune.

Untill the day she shows signs of slipping with the map on, will be the time to say fairwell to the old girl i feel,  but for the minute , i will continue to enjoy the car for as long as possible untill the day im forced to sell due to a clutch bill which i cannot afford nor justify.

I might be way out here... but if your clutch was slipping it would do so at peak torque. Once the clutch re-enganges it should 'stick' past maximum BHP, so the RR should still read maximum BHP.

I might be wrong.... quite possibly very wrong... but just my thoughts on the matter.

Where the clutches are at most stress is on the steepest part of my torque curve, ie coming onto boost rich, hense when jim was trying to get my run in 4th underway, couldnt get the revs to steady without them being erractic.

I know in the past he said my vreds tyres were slipping on a previous RR day, but i know mandy also runs the same tyres but im sure she runs alot less PSI then i set mine at AFAIK.

My Bluefin maps torque is 320 lb ft, the same as Dwaine's Stage 2 Revo with intake, and mandys revo 2 is alot lower in torque for some reason...

All i want is a flat torque curve without a nasty spike, which wont do my dsg very good.

I might be way out here... but if your clutch was slipping it would do so at peak torque. Once the clutch re-enganges it should 'stick' past maximum BHP, so the RR should still read maximum BHP.

I might be wrong.... quite possibly very wrong... but just my thoughts on the matter.
That is correct, my result is pretty much what i expected, but after 6 or 7 goes reving the back off her, im sure heat soak was starting to effect my result Rich with a lower then previous stage 1 result for me on the same rollers as before.

If it makes you feel any better Steve, my Eddie never showed ANY sign of slippage in 80k, Stage 2+ and over 150 1/4 mile runs..  :rolleye: Plus John's only started showings signs when sending laughing gas through it's heart at over 520lb/ft..  :rolleye:
So yours should be fine mate..  :happy2:

Just to update you guys. My car is only stage 2 Revo 6,5,9 last time it was running poorly with the twintercooler, just wouldn't pull past 6k, now back to stock cooler and still 6,5,9 it runs sweetly again and much quicker on the road.

293 was Saturdays figure, I expected 300+ but only based on the last dyno run. I am very happy with how she pulls and drives so still no plans for an ITG. Robins twintercooler sounded nice though when on the road.

I think the dyno was a few hp generous last time ?

Ill post my graphs when I'm back home

Well heres an odd thing....just logged the car. Peak MAF is 247.97, which by my calculations works out to 309.96

That leaves me a little confused that they got 248 on the rollers, when the MAF calculation says otherwise and more like what it should be

Confused isn't the word!!!

Though it does feel a little flat in 3rd gear so Im to assume something isn't right....but it don't really know if it is or isn't at this point  :stupid:

If ya airflow is there but power isn't that wouldn't mean you're running lean would it?

I think to get a full picture you need to log more than just MAF airflow. Maybe get a full suite of data (MAF, MAP, ignition angle, injector duty, fuel pressure, AFR ), and post it on here for some useful public scrutiny. Probably won't harm for sending on to your calibration file provider too.

Out of curiousity what was your AFR like at JKM?

If you want a really unscientific test, you could try a 3rd gear run against my car (Shark Stg1 K03) - if your car is really making 248 (what's the torque BTW?), then it should be pretty even, but if yesterday's dyno time was a transient oddity, you'll romp away.

Yep, panel filter K&N, Plus Miltek TBE, forge DV, Revo stage 2

That's exactly what mine was for a good year or so and it's a great combination and makes for a quick car IMO.. Only went with the intake when Stage 2+..

I would rather not have an intake! For me, these take the noise levels too far and sound silly, but I know you need it for it to be running properly once tuned!

My thoughts exactly and the only reason I did it... Don't get me wrong, I did like the sound of the intake flutter most of the time. But there is times when you're not in the mood and that's when having just a panel filter is bliss..

Ill do some more logging tonight if i can. Just had a reply from Superchip and they want me to send over a copy of my eeprom read which ill do after work

AFR looked ok. Ill upload a snap of the graph later on

Thats a good idea John - if I am intact faster (apparently 280ft/lb of torque) then I should pull away with ease

Yes I am running vreds on 38 psi, think that's about right?

Had low torque on stage 1 but was sorted by changing spark plugs, went from 270 to 290lb/ft.

Current torque is 305lb/ft on stage 2.

It appears that a coilpack on cyl #2 went and I think while on the RR as it felt OK driving down but rough going home with the CEL flickering when in higher revs. Luckily I have VCDS at home and found a new spare coilpack in my garage  :happy2:

You'd think with saga that was the early revision push fit coils on the 1.8t 20v that the tfsi coils might be more reliable! They were a complete pain on the 1.8t until about rev h (so many revisions I lost count).

....I would insist that Superchips pay JKM (they'll probably do it with credits as JKM are an official agent) to give you a free dyno session to see how things improve. Really! I would not let SC getaway with it, yet again! There are far too many cases reported of SC delivering the wrong map.

I might send them an email to request it

Not sure if they will though, but I guess its worth a pop

Oh yes absolutely - like i was saying the other day, the only real way to see what performance you are truly getting is to be RR'd

I also questioned with them if I was on the stock map, and he said that as the counter hadn't reset, the map wasn't finalised, therefore I was running a full stock map - So to be fair, 248 on a stock map with a TBE is somewhat impressive.

I had a look at my June graph and my recent graph of Saturday. Interestingly they are virtually identical in shape up to 5,500 then the recent dyno shows the current, non twintercooler graph extending nicely to 6,500+

The confusing thing is if you lay over one on top of the other the axis is almost prefect but up by 15-20hp in June right from 3,000 rpm to 5,500 I think the first runs in June were too high ?

I'll post a piccy to show later  :stupid:

Did you remap and fit the exhaust at the same time? Im wondering how your bum dyno wasn't horribly disappointed when you made the changes, if you really are running a full stock map.

The numbers don't stack up - looks to me like you got an odd hybrid map, and the supplier has defaulted to saying you had a stock map. If you've now got a full fat map I there ought to be a wiff of vapourised rubber evident this evening!  :driver: :driver:

Nope. Exhaust was a few weeks before the map (i think) though I can't be 100% on that as my memory is terrible lol

That was my thoughts - its a really odd hybrid like a stage one and a stock mixed together and made some kind of bluefin/vw love child

ok my turn for an update.............

Like Alex's car, ive also had issues with so called "feeling of Clutch slip" from my rolling road day on saturday.

My car has had lots of remap issues in the past, the last was when i tried applying a stage 2 map, my Stock fuel pump accoarding to the fuel logs, was not supplying 109.99 bar of fuel pressure , and in some cases , only managing as low as 75bar, which was making me feel in the car that it felt like it was pulling back under load.
I then approached Superchips for a resolution, and they then "played" with my remap, and sent it back, and after re-logging, the fuel pressures and my engine Timing issues appeared to have recovered and show that alls well....
Alex at this point contacted SC, and gave them my serial number of handset, and asked for my revamped map to loaded to his handset, as it appeared to be showing all was running better on mine.

At JKm on saturday how ever, my car appeared to show symptoms of Clutch slip, where Jim had alot of attempts to get my car to spin up in 4th gear, without the rev's running away with its self.
I up to this point, hadnt seen any signs of clutch slip on the road, and was abit bermused when jim said , theres a problem. He said this was the 2nd time he had seen this happen to a dsg Ed30 and the other was Hedge's old car..
I decided today to try and replicate this fault, and sure enough, on a step hill, in 2nd gear, managed to get the rev's to do the same as jim had noticed on the dyno.. which i then started thinking the worst, and thoughts of im gonna have to get shot of this car , because a clutch pack repair bill would of been close to £2000  :scared:
Took the car home, went in and loaded back the stock map, and went for another test drive and couldnt get any sort of clutch slipping symtoms, and at factory torque of around 250 lb ft, wasnt showing signs of an issue whilst in Stock mode.

So After having various chats with Alex and Hedge over the weekend, i decided to call Superchips, and ask for a completely new Remap, scrapping what i had, and see if the full fat remap at stage 2 would eat my clutch,or make the fault more prenounced as you would think it should.

I was advised by Ian (hedge) that they do a Torque limited remap, that caps the torque level at around 280 lb ft, but also makes the cars power delivery more linear in delivery.
I also decided to do a DSG reset of the clutches, to see if also poor clamping pressures were a cause. I found a link from Ross Tech from this site, and followed the instructions including a long winded test drive running all gears from 2nd 3rd,4th, 5th,6th for 5 minute spells to see if that would help. This was done with the car in Stock, before i downloaded the replacement remap from SC.I have never done this before to the car, after 40k miles, i thought it was worth a punt.

Anyway, loaded the new stage 2 map, and took out for a test drive drive :driver:!!!!! There is no slippage whatsoever!, gear changes are now smooth as silk, power delivery is super smooth right to the red line, with no Flatspot at around 3000-3500 which ive always put down to my stock oem fuel pump being worn out and needing a replacement, hense the reason why i ask SC for a toned down Stage 2 map to cure my issues in the 1st place!!!.

Turns out the map has been at fault , and that a "Overboost Styled" map was sent which gives my RR results a nasty spike!  :fighting:

Alex got my duff remap , so hense why also he's having issues too.

We will know shortly from alex, if his car is fixed and he's finally got a stage 2 map that works!!

Im very happy the car is now 100%, and not gonna be put in the classifieds as it was at 10am this morning :jumpmove:

Oh and incase your wondering, its a hell of quicker then before!!!!!

That's really good news, Steve! I know it would break your heart to part with Phyllis at this stage - You and her aren't through yet!

But, after reading about the probs with SC remaps, I really do think they don't deserve their good reputation.

Here you go.... top pencil line is tracing the sat figs at 20hp up, the lower pencil line is comparing June to Saturday (original graph in red was last June)  any thoughts ?

The problem isn't with Superchips maps it's with people requesting things out of the ordinary. My only fault from SC was they sent me a manual file instead of a DSG file which I spotted straight away and they rectified immediately.

Don't be so harsh to criticise Robin after all other tuning companies also have problems with their maps (Dawain and Mandy at Inters) and fail to reimburse the people that have purchased them.

If you feel you need to crusade against Superchips then I suggest you do so based upon your own interactions with them and not via proxy.  :indifferent:

Well what I can I say...

Oh my f'ing god this map is insane!!!!!!

I'll write up the nitty gritty tomorrow but heres the bottom line...

When the map was flashed originally the flash counter didn't reset on the final ign on off sequence. As a result, I was running a corrupted oem map that was over fuelling and under boosting causing bizarre performance albeit greater than stock shockingly less than even stage 1!!!

After the rr on sat, I started investigating and did some logging to confirm the above

I promptly emailed super chips and Michael replied very quickly with a clea and consise response. We has a long discussion about the possible causes and path to resolution

In the end the conclusion was reached the map wasn't flashed by means of them checking the original map from the car

I asked for a full blown stage two which Michael willingly provided and flashed it on tonight

All I can say is wow - the car is like a different beast. I'm gonna do a dsg reset this week for optimum performance but it's a million times better than it was

Super chips have been great with this and as Steve has said quick and helpful to get a resolution.

Hmmm.... I've got access to a Racelogic Vbox if you're feeling keen. It's entertaining to see what you can get it to record, but does tend to result in number 11s being written everywhere, and your head spinning around checking you're not attracting unwanted attention.

Have you logged the car with the new calibration loaded, or just been bum dyno-ing around the area?

....I'm not on a crusade. I'm merely contributing my opinion to this discussion based on information presented/reported to date.

The facts as presented so far, tell me that I'm damned glad I didn't buy Bluefin/SC. Theirs is not a system of delivery which I trust - As always, in response to any post, people can and will make up their own minds about it and agree or disagree.

It'd be interesting to put the car up against yours, doms and johns at some point soon to see who can outrun who. On my calcs I should be fastest though Dom may level peg

Trying to do stand still starts on stage 2 is pointless. 30-100 run is what you want to do. :-)

I struggle with traction on stage one.... Which lends me to think that no more power is required, unless your chasing figures.

An intercooler won't give 2bhp let alone 20bhp

All it will do is make the power consistent over more runs were an OEM cooler would start to suffer heatsoak.

You've obviously had lots of problems with the car Dom and at one point it was running perfectly. As you know I offered to help and even contribute towards your brake problem but having mapped countless cars on roads/airfields some with higher power than yours, I know that while we might have got your brakes a bit hot with a few 3rd gear runs and then back down to 30mph or so, that didn't kill your brakes. Stock cars manage on track days, no reason why your car should have had a brake problem from that.

Anyway, the point was that we didn't just chuck our developed stage 3 map at you and left it at that. We worked with you to get it to how you wanted it, which I think we managed after the visit down to us? The car ran perfectly then. It's impossible to know what's happened to your car especially as it had 3 different tuners' maps on before ours. What I do know is that it ran fine as per your visit prior to the RR day of 2nd June.
We've spent countless hours working with you, retuning your car using the STS/logging method and also nearly a full day with you down here, a free few hours sorting out your STS and telling you that you didn't need a new turbo that you had done anyway.. we tried our best to help. I also checked some of your "very high timing pull logs" and as there's no actual ignition angle logged in those files (block 003) it's impossible to know exactly what the car was doing, so while there was evidence of -9 on one cylinder for around 2.5 seconds, we can't compare that to the actual ignition angle and so we can't even guess why it was showing -9. That was after the DSG map was added and so a rather large variable had changed and none of our previous logs from your visit here were useable as a comparison.

So alright, my comment was a bit throwaway and only meant as a joke, didn't really expect a potted history of the last 6 months in reply.

Either way I'm gonna bow out of this situation here as I don't think it's constructive for either of us. If you have any issues to take up with me I'd rather it was done directly by email or by phone, you know I'll help as much as I can  :drinking:

6 month history removed then.
I havent pointed the finger at you, in the other post I simply stated that other tuners dont get it right first time either. I did a swap for a map for the brakes as you well know. If you go through other posts you can see I have promoted your maps for you.
I havent really got a sense of humour as far the car is concerned, I only build datsuns for a living, so my pockets are getting very shallow because of the car :sad1:
