Title: BCS "3" TBE hybrid system 80mm (twin)
Post by: JackG on September 09, 2011, 09:48:26 pm
After much head scratching on which exhaust to purchase from the choices of miltek,blueflame,APR,magnex,powerflow,pipworx...etc etc....
I decided to take part in the blueflame group buy from nige at BCS automotive

WHY?
Why? Well that's obvious.....I have a stage 1 edition30 and for my plans to go stage 3 and good system that's tried and tested with good gains! I find the stage 1 edition30 very fast (301.1bhp) BUT it lacks in "feel" I think it's all good being pinned in the seat but you need to have a nice sound to add to the power   it adds to the effect and makes it "feel" like a more alive drive!

SOURCING
the system was purchased from Nigel at BCS automotive, the system is entailed with a blueflame rear section so please allow a few days for a BCS downpipe to be made....the reason for this is fittment issues from blueflameside of things
My system took around 1 week to be made up and posted out, please see the "group buy" section on the forum for the latest offer or PM Nigel direct

FITTING
fitting wasn't done by me as I'm useless..but I work for Volkswagen so I got the guys to fit the system for me
The tech that fitted it for me said he hopes it doesn't need to bent! He's fitted a miltek TBE to a personal friends S3...apparently he needed to help it fit correctly, the guys at work were amazed at the quality of the system, the welds were pure craft, pipes were bent perfectly, hangers all in the correct places,
All the required parts, clamps, bush converter were all included in the box so the only part I needed to buy was a turbo gasket, the fitting too around 40 mins and was hassle free, everything lined up as it should, nothing needed adjusting to stop knocking...it was hassle free  :congrats:
The reason the down pipe is BCS is due to the down pipe hitting the heatsheild so I'm told  :drinking:
OTHER VERSIONS
there are lots of other versions of TBE exhausts from miltek,APR,pipeworx etc etc
Many pepole have theses versions and they all have strong plus points.

PLUS POINTS
•power
•Torque increase
•sound improvement
•looks
When the system was fitted it started with a nice burble! I took the car for a test drive and it was like a rope was took off from its neck! Revs are much smoother, feels like it revs easy, power increase is noticeable as the there is alot less turbo lag and its power feels improved by what I'd estimate at around 8bhp ish (I haven't been mapped to it yet)
The sound is great! I did a test which was NOT TO TELL THE GIRLFRIEND! I didnt tell her at all, didn't even mention I've bought it  :signLOL: when it was fitted I went and picked her up...at start up it made a nice burble with the revs raised...she didn't notice (at this point I'm trying not to laugh) when I started driving she still hasn't noticed...when I got to around 5k she said "the car seems louder? Is it just me?" I said it's fine...nothings changed  :popcornsoda:
Then we came to the slip road from were I live...I put the car in sport mode (she still hasn't clocked it) then I accelerated
Hard and then!...."you've bought a new bloody exhaust"  :signLOL:
My reply...I sure have!. The noise is fine, I really really don't like drone but a miltek was to silent for me but the BCS system is bang on the mark, doesn't drone, nice pop when on over run, sounds epic when on the loud pedal! The sound is to die for and with mine being a DSG the pop is to die for! I've been getting 17mpg for the last 3 days   :ashamed:

MINUS POINTS
none really! I can't fault it yet!

SUMMERY
to sum it all up! What's improved
•power
•sound
•looks
For the price and results achieved and the horror stories about milteks brackets braking I thought the BCS hybrid system is a clear winner! I wouldn't  spend over 1K on a full TBE miltek with cat when the BCS system does all the miltek does but the BCD suits MY needs better as like I said "the miltek was to quiet"
The build quality was pure professional workmanship, another factor to consider is who do you want your money to go to?
Nigel is a nice chap who always replies to messages and questions, he's no hard sales man and his knowledge and advice is great, he appreciated my buisness such in today's economy is very important to me as id rather spend my hard earned £££ on someone that will offer a service and a product rather than just a product  :congrats:
I'll post some pictures of the system and report as to how im finding it after a few hundred miles  :happy2:

Reading this review has pretty much made my mind up to which TBE i'll go for when funds allow!

Are those tail pipes a special request or were they the only ones offered?

Top review btw  :happy2:

Hi Rob
We do the rolled in or the hard edge - we are working on tooling at the moment to produce a steeper angle to better suit the wash away o the valence - oh we also do ceramic black coated as well.
Cheers

Thanks Jack for your review.
It's great to be working with real enthusiasts, who only want the best potential products for their car.
We wanted to offer the best possible out of the box set up for the MK 5 which is why I went back to the drawing board and produced a hybrid design based on my original Blue Flame concept.
Not sure what has happened since I left BF, but let's just say that the down pipe needed to be re developed.
We opted for a 1d 76mm bend off the turbo to bring the downpipe perfectly central in the engine bay tunnel - so no stressed flex or knocks and bangs here.
Flex length is critical to correctly de couple the transverse motion from the engine - especially when running big power. Have a look at the OEM design below and compare with the flex length on the Milltek and then wonder why so many have experienced stress fatigue and cracking. It's also interesting to note the tube diameter at the flex - again not good when hunting for big power.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fnigeblueflame%2FVW%2FBCSFlexcomparison.jpg&hash=aef1358d19c002b1dc7ca3c5d0c2d446e3e5610a)

We also increased the front silencer size, to reduce interior cabin noise slightly - again in response to the guy's who want all the power without so much drama ( except you Joe - who removed the front silencer and opted for the silencer delete pipe :rolleye:)
The results are now spot on - we will be dynoing next week with all of our GIAC maps to show power comaprisons across the board.
Oh and watch out for the Valvetronic exhaust which will be released in October. This will be a world first on the MK 5 and features a full flow valve controlled exhaust note that goes from quiet on tick over and low revs to insane on boost. :jumping:
PS existing customers will be able to retro fit this new setup.
Once again guy's thanks for all of the words of encouragement so far - we couldn't do it with out you.
Cheers
Nige

Is this TBE the one in the GB at £795+£15 delivery?

Yes this is the modified system - originally we were selling off 5 Blue Flame systems - however, when it came to fitting them on our own MK5, it transpired that there were fitting issues that needed to be resolved.
We therefore came up with my new hybrid design. This stock has all bee allocated to customers.
However,we will be offering our new TBE which takes all of the positives from the hybrid system and utilises a flange connection at the rear silencer to aid fitting.
We will be selling the new design at £895.00
However, due to the response we would like to offer a continuation of the group buy at £795.00 for a minimum of 10 customers. The good news is that the parts will fit the Scirocco and MK6 if any one wants to rope in potential runners of these cars.

I have had mine on for about i month now and done about 1000m with it and it's fine on a long motorway cruise. However when giving it the beans the pop / crack you get with a dsg down shift is mental, and so addictive.
Id fully recommend anyone wanting more drama from their motor to get one asap

Ok so it's been on for 2500 miles now and I've done lots of motorway driving

The sound has gone very "crisp" nice and raspy and great pops on down shift, sound is still to die for and on the motorway I can't tell any difference at all from standard...but when you medium press the go pedal you get a nice rumble
It's still spot on  :congrats: no nocks from warped pipes or spilt welds..it's still bang on! Would recommend a group buy purchase with nige as hose service is spot on, really appreciates buisness and makes you happy to spend your hard earned on such a nice friendly person to deal with
Good luck guys!

Hi there
Yes the A3 KO3 2wd runs the same setup as the Golf GTi MK5
The price out side the group buy would be £895.00 for the full TBE with 100 cell Motor sport cat.
We offer a full fitting service that we can do FOC for you as it would be good to take a few pictures.
Best regards

Sorry to ask more questions Nigel.

I'm a bit confused, is the system an all new development or a hybrid of the BlueFlame?

If it's the latter what parts are modded BlueFlame?

Sorry again it's just the review, as good as it is, is confusing me.

No disrespect please don't take that the wrong way.

What I am trying to say/ask is........is it made from scratch or does it incorporate elements of BlueFlame parts?
Title: Re: BCS "3" TBE hybrid system 80mm (twin)
Post by: Powervalve Nige on October 17, 2011, 11:09:24 am
Hi There
No problem.
Essentially the new systems on offer are built from scratch by BCS Automotive.
We have re designed the downpipe - which now incorporates a different turbo elbow which enables the the pipe to run straight through the engine tunnel and no longer requires the heat shield to be bent out of the way.
The front silencer is also larger and makes for better overall tone.
In addition all of the components are designed to interchange with the new power valve system due out in November. (fully integrated exhaust gas flow control valve - within a 3.00" system, a first for the MK5)
The basic principal of the system remains from when I first designed the system back in 2005 when I owned Blue Flame - ie full 76mm TBE with all of the silencing done in advance of the rear wheels to maximise gas speed through the system.
Please feel free to call me for a more detailed appraisal.
Cheers

Thanks Nige thats exactly what I wanted.

Also I noticed that the downpipe support in the review is different to the picture on your website?

Is the review pre production and the website final?

And has there been any issues with the 100cell CAT passing emissions on the MOT?

I will be interested to see the Power Valve system, where does it get its signal to operate from? Can it be manually over ridden? Would it need to be?

Thanks again.

Egerly waiting for the valvetronic. Is this something like the 911's have which changes the exhaust noise when wished or dependant on how hard the accelerator is pressed?

How would it differ to the original post exhaust which is quiet at low revs and motorways but loader with beans?

Cheers

We've been using the technology on niche projects for a while now - but the ultimate goal was to develop one for the TFsi/TSi engined cars. Unlike the Porsche system which is manually switchable and a novelty at first, I wanted to develop a system that still favoured the hard core tuner looking to maximise the potential power available. With this in mind the goal was to insert the valve in such a way and re configure the silencing to allow the system to pass noise emissions at all of the key check points and yet when the go button is pressed and the car comes on boost to sound awesome.
I should have video and pricing details soon - can't wait to share this with you guy's.

hey Joe homologated sport cat and de cat options are available and the option to delete the front silencer - although this would be extremely loud on boost as the centre silencer is also effectively deleted.

Hi chaps
Just got back after a run down to WGT in Northwich to measure the final TBE system on their Dyno Pack chassis dyno.
Sadly an issue with the computer meant that we will have to delay the test until tomorrow
However, just couldn't wait to share my experience of the 40 minute sprint there and back.
The introduction of the larger front silencer has IMO perfected this system, in addition we installed the tail section with twin 76mm angle cut trims instead of the 90mm version.
The power is amazing even on the stock map - boost is there almost immediately, and as for the tone      just can't get enough! Reminded me of my first MK1 GTi 25 years ago.
Let me tell you anyone sitting on the fence over this group buy needs to come and experience this, and quick, I promise you - you will be as blown away by this as I am. Some may say that's a bit biassed based on the fact that I make the systems. In answer, I would simply say that first and foremost in order to do this job properly you have to be an enthusiast of the first order, to be able to create something that embodies that intangible feeling you get from the knowledge that something is right from the off. Something that stirs the emotion to the point that everything else at that moment in time is forgotten as you experience the feeling you dreamt of growing up looking at cars beyond the reach of mortal men.
OTT - well put it this way I'm trying to think up an excuse to get back in it and get another fix - could do with a sandwich - I know a Tesco in Birmingham
In the meantime - here's a few images to show off the 76mm trims (90mm will still be available) Next up will be some video footage, but short of hiring out the Top Gear film crew, It just won't do it justice.
Cheers
Nige

No worries
There are a few on page 3 of this thread - and here's a few more for you to consider - they are genuine TTRS wheels 18" - would be willing to consider a swap for original BBS CH's or Pesci's if interested bud.
Cheers

Hmm, this thread is going past it's purpose it seems to me at the moment.
We have a long standing policy of not allowing or giving any preferential treatment to companies involved in selling tuning products for our cars. This encompasses all business large or small from Milltek to revo.
This does not mean that companies can not come on here and explain their products and help our members with inquiries, but there is a line in the sand that needs to be drawn from time to time.
I know you are a fledgling company, BCS, but in fairness to other companies i feel you need to assist our members via your own company or by use of PM, and so creating a little less presence on the forum.
There is going to be an auction soon to help raise funds to-wards keeping this independent forum running. It would be nice if you could contribute some of your great product to this, to show your thanks for the platform this forum gives your company.

Kind regards the admin.
