Title: R32 bumper
Post by: jabbawocky on September 11, 2011, 10:20:01 pm
Does anyone know if a genuine R32 front will fit a GT TDI? Been looking at a couple on ebay as Ive never been too sure about replica stuff but don't know if genuine is a straight forward swap. Oh and if it'll fit do I need different fogs?

Cheers

Depending on age, if it's a pre-facelift you really need the front panel / rad support for it to be done right but I understand you can modify the bumper to fit your existing front panel.

A bit of jiggery polkery, easier and less ballache just to buy the bumper and panel.
The fogs on a pre-facelift differ from the R32 type.

An R32 doesn't have front fogs in the bumper.....does it?

Great, cheers for that. I've seen so many replica kits with fog light holes which was making me think they have them but the more I think about it I reckon you're right

That will be ME then  :happy2:

Yes you can put an R32 front onto a TDI with no real issues. No you need not change all the hangers / slam pannel etc etc. Standard bumper off R32 on with a little cutting EASY. Fog light comes up on the dash as faulty if you dont fit them but i believe it can be turned off via VAG COM.

its nothing new though, since cars were invented people have always bought the cheaper model and fitted higher model parts, my first car was a mk3 fiesta 1.1 with rs turbo bumpers/arches and skirts/wheels/interior

Yeah, you're right about the fogs..... (thinking about the GTi front as I typed).  :ashamed:

If you fit a GTi or R32 front bumper without changing the front panel I understand you cannot use the tow eye as it is in a different location.
For day to day running this is not a problem but if the worst was to happen you're kind of f@cked.......

I'm just about to fit a GTi front to the wife's GT TDi but decided to buy the complete bumper and front panel, I was not interested in cutting or trimming the bumper to suit and then as above regarding the towing eye......
Would rather just do it right as it would bug me if it wasn't 100%...........
