Title: Beattie's 4motion - NEW UPDATES!
Post by: Beattie on September 20, 2011, 06:30:47 pm
Hey everyone,

New to this forum and I have recently purchased a nice 2.0 GT TDI 4motion in Black.
60K on clock and comes with standard features by the looks of it. I have a lot of mods in mind going on what I've seen many of you all doing so keep popping by and I'll be sure to keep everyone updated as it progresses!

Right so here it goes ...

First day getting my Golf and took it up to a local park so some rubbish snaps i must admit haha but here she is standard!

Forget the mk4 lol

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac59%2Fbeattie3689%2FIMG00168-20110612-1641.jpg&hash=c383a411db500e71ef674285cce1c4dc7f5ab103)

Basicly the model I have has a good spec i'd say looking at some other TDi's but could have been better... Came with the Highline clocks, Ipod dock, Centre Armrest and the RCD500 i think?

I added the GT badge insert onto my steering wheel instead of the plain
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac59%2Fbeattie3689%2FIMG00217-20110926-0930.jpg&hash=af3cc0ff948deb798a28fb5fbd7ed1542c279432)

My first big mod was new alloy wheels, I was looking for something quite cheap at the time and managed to get my hands on these Replica R32 alloys, Looked alright i'd say but still not happy.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac59%2Fbeattie3689%2FIMG00178-20110702-1406.jpg&hash=76bbfa3e04954b51062f73754722a91a484a93f9)

Next mod came from 1000 mile round trip from home! and I drove the whole way! (I was down in the area so thought why not)

Pressed Plates from Dubmeister.

Next was the introductiong of POLAR FIS. Thanks to Golfman (Scott) for supplying and fitting this.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac59%2Fbeattie3689%2FIMG00219-20110926-0930.jpg&hash=897ce8e8e5becab3b235f3095f456de08096b0bf)

Next up again thanks to Scott,

Front Footwell lighting... Looks great at night and makes it look a bit more modern than it is.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac59%2Fbeattie3689%2FIMG00220-20110926-09311.jpg&hash=d3e5d51aea988aa1e8c0a22b889b3ed1efc9c039)

After a short spell on the R32's I decided it was time for a change! Wheels were ok but a bit scuffed and I wasnt really happy with it so a good offer came along and I'm sure the seller appreciates how much i bit his hand off haha.

Genuine set of Scirocco wheels with Goodyear and Pirelli tyres. Still in brand new condition i'd say.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac59%2Fbeattie3689%2FIMG00208-20110916-1557.jpg&hash=f4a2d26e98b6b949bd54d9cfe45df2ecf50d0b06)

Whilst on these snaps you may notice I have also have my rear valance changed to the GTI model, Also it has been colour coded and smoothed to give a better look, looks great imo. Also added that same day were the mudflaps which again small but what a difference it can make.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fac59%2Fbeattie3689%2FIMG00211-20110918-1723.jpg&hash=c1a8cef922530baec22ef56212db8ac0209f829d)

So at the moment thats it for me. Next on list is defo a remap from Star Performance, hopefully reach the 190bhp sort of power.

More to Follow!!

Very nice Craig just how mine started :happy2:

I think you will be looking more around the 180bhp (maybe a bit less with the 4motion)at Star I think Scotts is around 188 but he seems to have a very sweet engine, my hybrid'd Golf with very low boost is on 196bhp but 325ft lb torq clutch change soon then I can go more on the power

Keep it coming mate :happy2: Ill be up a couple of months to see Scott and Nicola so we'll have to have a mini meet at Scotts

It looks a very good spec to be honest!

Thanks Darren and Joe on your comments. Positivity is all good haha! The mini meet sounds good!! Will get to see what your Golfs like in the flesh lol. I wasnt sure what the 4motion would possibly reach but I did speak with them at Star and they said as there's two diff engines? mines being the better which is PD? not sure what it means but they said I should reach at the the least 185 no bother depending on how well my engine runs. So here's hoping. I did ask them regarding the 4motion set up and the guy said not to worry.

Very nice, looks like its been well looked after  :happy2:

I'd of loved to have had the 4motion - but they'd stopped doing them when I bought mine.  Very rare, you don't come across many for sale!!!

You got any plans for it? (Apart from the remap)

Title: Re: Craig's 4motion Tdi
Post by: Beattie on September 26, 2011, 05:07:48 pm
Thanks, Yeah it was an ex company car going by the service history.. every little thing paid for and replaced by the same company. Hopefully a mature woman had it lol she might not of thrashed it haha. Well to be honest at the time when it came up for sale I was actually waiting for the GT Sport to come in and the guy foned me saying this is in same week and i thought hmmm 4 wheel drive sounds good and havent seen many of them around either!! only seen one more since i got it actually. So opted for that.

My plans are to get rear footwell lightning to go with front, i hope to get the ed30 rear lights and the black gti headlights or maybe xenons in the future..
Theres much more, front fogs, upgrade to the RNS, tpms i thinks next and gti steering wheel too. Love the shape of it! gives much more of a sporty look. Not gona lower it as my wheels are gens and a bit wide so will have some arch problems! rubs easy as it is so dodging the pot holes more often than ever haha.

Golfman (Scott) is the man with all the ideas so whatever he throws at me im sure if ive got the money there and then i'll do it! haha.

Got myself a Vortex front lip off here so to get that soon aswell.

keep up the good work bud

You made the right decision - you can change how the car looks but you can't add 4motion!

Sounds like you've got some nice plans too - alot of which i have done.

When I was looking for my new car at the beginning of the year, my head said 4motion and my heart said GTI.  I looked at nine GTIs before I found mine, but I never found a single 4motion even worth travelling to see, let alone one as good as yours.  If I had.... who knows?

Right guys and girls! Time for a new update just before the new year.

Refurbished alloys in a custom paint chosen by myself on the day. Possibly close to many already but never mind..

Some night pics, day pics will follow tomorrow to see exact extent of wheel colour.

CRUISE CONTROL

I havent taken any pics as yet but they will follow..

Great car, really envy the 4motion part. Did this come with DSG also?
I might try to find one with both DSG and 4motion for the missus, and i could always throw my spare TFSI in it for a bit of extra fun.
A shame though you haven't got the Big Ac in it, but Scott has a retorfit planned already i believe?

i really like them think it suits the car really well, will be better seen in the daytime though!!!

another thing i can't stop laughing about is when craig said during the week that the weather hasn't been too bad so he was gonna put the sciroccos back on friday, and guess what it started to piss down with snow   :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:

anyway get the daytime pics up craig and let us see the wheels against the car a bit better

The colour is a customised colour made up on the day, luckily though i got 2 litres of the same paint incase any were damaged through time to catch the same colour. Although it looks similar to the Audi Dolphin Grey i believe.

Nah it didnt come with the DSG but im more than happy with the car overall, I was driving up Scott's street the other night and theres a bend which is quite slippy in the snow/slush conditions and i felt the rear wheels push me up the hill which feels good lol..

The AC unit would of been good if it was better than the one I have but u cant have everything :(

I'm sure Scott can do that, not much difference to wiring in the footwell lights

Hi all once again another great update!! FOGS!!!

Ed-NL came upto Scotts this weekend and whilst there he wired up and coded in my front fogs. Car only had the fogs mounted on so he done everything from interior wiring through engine bay to fog housings. Great done and rather quick imo considering he'd never tackled this before.

So hats off the man! I would recommend anyone who is thinking of adding these to give Ed a shout if you want it done properly!

Just booked myself into Star Performance (Kirkcauldy, Scotland) Hearing lots of good things about these guys.

In for:

Remap
Long Life Service
Haldex Oil for the rear differential (4motion)
Water Pump/Timing Belt
Tracking Alignment
Air Con Recharge

I had a good chat with Jim the main man there and asked him regards the Remapping. He told me that because mines is a 4motion and already has a lot more Torque than the 2WD Golfs they wont need to up the Torque as much as usual which he said will gain in adding more BHP than usual, he done one of the 4Motions only last week and it came out at 190BHP and that was 142BHP stock!!

So cars gona be working lovely and running very smooth!!

Also got alloys in for refurb and got 4 new Goodyear Asseymetrics ordered and due for pick up monday.

Good times!!!!!

Well on the way home i found it interesting as I had a civic type R on my arse and i kept toying with him lol pulling away easily. Found that quite fun ha, usually doesnt happen then a focus st came past and i tried to keep up but at 225bhp i wasnt near it lol.

Much better response and theres not any lagging as yet. Jim at star said the car needs to bed into it so take it easy for a couple of days but already i can see the difference and the fuel is better, usually i get about between 48 and 56 on motorways but it was sticking up at 58 average. So that was nice.

lol if a tyre r couldnt leep up with u then must of not been trying

The EP3 model (2002-2006) very rarely make 197bhp as standard - some as low as 160bhp, the 2007 onwards are usually bang on (I've had both the old & the new  :happy2:)

The lack of torque will mean they will struggle to keep up with a torquey TDI which has roughly the same power   especially if your already moving

You have to be a VERY good driver to get the most of a type-r, if you change gear to early you will miss the power band  :sad1:

I agree with you about driving them properly to keep it in vtec though, that takes a bit of getting used to!

Hi all, got a nice update to share...

I picked these up yesterday in Leeds from a forum member and after a long 10 hour drive (628 miles) and a nights sleep I have my new Charleston alloys on the Golf.

They are not in the best condition, thought they were a bit better original on the pics however I have them and love them. Will be getting refurbished over the winter months ready for the spring.

Now its Sciroccos off.. can't say I miss them to be honest but it was time to change.

Pics below..

Well because its the 4motion its 15mm lower than a standard golf anyway and the weight of the rear diff actually makes it look lowered already so kinda got the height perfect imo. It sits lower than a Gti does according to one of the salesman in VW near me lol

I'd have to think about that one because my last Golf mk4 just went all to pop once I put coilovers on it, arms, wishbones, driveshaft etc... not going down that route again. Plus i dont want mines looking close to a boy racer look. Trying to keep it OEM but nicer.

Dont want to slam it lol

I'm not saying it doesn't bud. Just stating that basically I don't want to end up with problems like my last Golf. As soon as I lowered it it basically went tits up  :signLOL:

Just a small update today.

Went to Star Performance again on saturday morning to get my timing belt/water pump etc done. £325 Inc VAT.

Also whilst there I got a dyno done to see what power my golf actually put out so Im happy with 190.2bhp!! not bad that.

Pic added below :happy2:

Not sure if these other coloured lines are good or bad but feel free to comment on whats what or opinions. Thanks  :happy2:

190bhp? what have you done to it? Just a map and filter?

how do you find driving the car now with the remap

It's better anyway. 4th gear pulls uphill like a train.. No problems.

Any suspension mods will enhance the corner ability 10 fold I couldn't believe how mine cornered compared to standard? Once I had fitted the coil overs and front S3 wishbones and hubs it cornered like it was on rails.

My 140 was pushing out just short of 207bhp and that pulled like a train. Had a few guys in who owned Gti's and they where surprised at the pace.

You should have called in for coffee mate only round the corner from where you picked the wheels up.

Car looks cracking mate you should be proud of it.

Thanks Darren. Yeah we'll originally Jim at star said he thinks it increased upto roughly about 178.. Then a dyno says 192.. Can't complain lol. I never thought lol although she was moaning about the drive so wouldn't of stopped for long. We went to that doughnut place in beside birstall retail park lol
