-
Intime for upgrade, just got to wait til November
Shame it weren't the 5, that must be next years upgrade
-
Or simply visit www.apple.com, or any of the other million technology based websites on the Internet
-
I hate apple for these crappy interim updates. Squeezing every last penny.
-
A new case and they could have called it a 5.
-
Apple store back up £499
-
All i wanted was a new case, the function was perfect with the 4, don't need any more power.
Share price has dropped 4% and still going, a bad move from Apple is a rare one but judging by my Facebook stream there are a lot of disappointed people out there!!
-
Or simply visit www.apple.com, or any of the other million technology based websites on the Internet
You don't have to read the thread :P
-
That's a shame, I was expecting some better tbh. I went from 3G to 4, so 4 to 5 in 12m lloks more likely
If they improve the screen on the ipad I'll jump the 2 as well
-
Looks like the same sort of speed bump/extra capacity that the 3G to the 3GS had
Looks like Apple are only doing major updates to the physical appearance every two years
SIRI looks pretty impressive along with the improved camera
Just waiting for the 4S to be jailbroken before I upgrade my 4 with a capacity increase :pomppomp:
-
Same spec as my Sensation, pretty dissapointed to be honest! In fact without a proper look, it might be worse than my HTC! Plus it won't run half the software that this will, used to be a huge apple fan but the 4 let me down!
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using Tapatalk
-
Well chuffed, love my iPhone 4 and have had it since launch day so more than happy to stick with it and update the software in a few weeks! :pomppomp:
-
Does anyone know..
A 7th October pre order date , does that mean I need to wait up until 0001 on the 7th to do it , or can it be anytime on the 7th ?
Cheers
-
Anytime on the 7th. The earlier the better though.
Just do what i'm doing, walking into an Apple Store on the 14th and buying one :happy2:
-
Do we know what the software update will add to the 4?
-
What Nath said ^^^

Just do what i'm doing, walking into an Apple Store on the 14th and buying one :happy2:
Walking or queueing?
-
^^^^^^
What he said !
I don't do queuing !
-
I'll be ordering online for home delivery. Anyone want to buy a nearly new 32gb 3GS and a 32GB 4?
-
Just do what i'm doing, walking into an Apple Store on the 14th and buying one :happy2:
Walking or queueing?
I'll be going after work so will be walking in :P
-
How are you going to make sure it won't be sold out?
-
Impressive stuff;
-
Left it a bit late to sell mi 4 me thinks :'(
-
From my point of view I'm pretty happy with the announcement. I'm perfectly happy with my 4 and the fact that a redesigned 5 hasn't come out means my 4 won't look dated! The 5 should be out just around my upgrade time!
oh and I'm looking forward to the new iOS features!
-
How are you going to make sure it won't be sold out?
Their is this wonderful invention called a telephone that i have so i will ring the store before i turn up to ensure they still have them :signLOL:.
In my experience the high capacity ones don't fly out that quickly so i think they will still have some 64GB ones. I shall ring first thing and see if i can reserve one to collect (sometimes they do and sometimes they don't allow it). If not i will check before i go and there are 3 stores near me i can try so hopefully one will have them :happy2:
-
Thought you had a foolproof plan that might guarantee one. My boss plans to queue up. I was originally going to as well but too close to assessments and exams so have to give it a miss and order online.
-

I've just remembered you can reserve stuff using the Apple Store app on the piephone so I will just use that to reserve one and pick it up when I finish work on my way home :happy2:
So I has a foolproof plan :P
-
what a let down there are android phones out there that are just as powerful and doesnt cost anywhere near as much.
My 3gs is a slow as f*ck and I wanted to upgrade, waited for the 5, its not here but do I really want to get the 4s only for the 5 to come out in june?
-
Just do what I'm doing. Get the 4S now and then get the 5 when that comes out.
Simples

what nath said :happy2
Carl do you know if you can download the new update on jailbroken phones?
-
I've been waiting to update my iPhone but I'm not sure now that I'll stick with Apple. This new phone looks to have some cool new features but it still has some fundamental flaws (or stupid restrictions imposed by Apple) that I'm beginning to lose faith in the iPhone. It amazes me that Apple still refuses to support flash for instance and that you cannot send files via bluetooth to a non apple product without jailbreaking the phone. I used to be a big Apple fanboy way back but not these days. I don't like the way that they want to keep everything within their own universe and won't play on a more open field. I realise that that is their business plan. To control the whole user experience from hardware to content and force you on a continual upgrade path once a year. Apple are just too big and powerful these days. Might be time to switch to Android. They only thing stopping me are apps.
-
what nath said :happy2
Carl do you know if you can download the new update on jailbroken phones?
I would imagine that it will take a few days to be jailbroken so i would say no at launch but give it a week and it will be :happy2:

See your coming at this all wrong. Sell your 3GS and put the moolah towards the 4S. You can get between £120-£134 from mazuma for the 3GS depending on model. That takes a 4S down to at least £379 for the 16GB Model. Then when it comes to the iPhone 5 you sell the 4S for around £300 and voila you have an iPhone 5 for around half the price for a 64GB one

Chaps where can I find out which bits of iOS5 will work on a 3GS? I presume that it isn't everything...
-
I've been running my 3GS with ios 5 for about 3-4 months now and it's great. Pretty much all of it works but I think Siri is exclusive to the 4s
-
Gonna wait for the spec of the new nexus before I make a decision on the 4S, already confirmed it has a 720p hd screen hmmm...

Need to know the US none contract pricing if they will do tt without! Auntie is currently there so if it works out cheaper she will pick me on up!
If not then sell this 4 and get the 4S, I;m a geek and have had each iPhone and plan to carry on, all contract free though so it's a large outlay!

I was thinking about getting a cheapo andriod and crashing it out till the iphone 5 comes along, but then I remember that all gadgets these days are all apple orientated. Bose dock in my car, apple only, bose at home, again apple compatible docks, aftermarket headunits all cater to apple.
Therefore I have no option than to stick with apple unless I dont care about loosing my functionability.
Iphone in glovebox, listening to my library, charging the phone, with bluetooth on is something I couldnt do without.
Now do I get the 32gb or the 64gb!

I am not going to lie, yesterday’s announcement left me a little disappointed as i really wanted the rumoured iPhone 5 to be the next iteration. In my personal opinion and i know i'm going to get flamed for saving this but the iPhone 4s isn’t a significant enough upgrade to warrant committing to a 18-24 month contract or paying the £499 for a PAYG handset, my contract is up for renewal shortly so i’m going to sell my iPhone4 and use my work provided Galaxy S2 instead. The £300-£350 made from selling the handset will be squirreled away or as i expect will happen be spent on car or camera p0rn!

This is why you should never trust rumor sites. They only build your hopes up! The 4 is still a revolutionary phone, still many people going out these days and upgrading to it, my mates did last week, as did my ex 3 weeks ago.
So there's no need to release a 5 as of yet!
-
Meh about the new phone! :booty:
-
What time do we think the pre order system will open up on the 7th ?
-
12:01 PST which is 08:01 UK time
-
Glad my iPhone 4 won't look out of date. I tend to keep a cheaper tariff and buy my phones direct from Apple - covering most of the cost by selling my old phone. Although the speed boost, better camera, and Siri look great, I don't think it warrants an upgrade. I'm perfectly happy to upgrade the software on my phone for now, and hang onto my handset for another year
-

Thanks, is that confirmed ?

According to Macrumours the Apple support peeps have confirmed an 07:01am GMT pre order opening. However, when i spoke to Apple support earlier today, they wouldnt confirm a time at all.
Im a little disappointed that the 5 didnt happen, case design would have been something else.
However, all the tech in the 4S is bang on the money, and exactly what was expected. The spec is awesome.
The reason Android needs a higher spec machine to run is because its an absolute POS. I cant wait to put a brick through the crappy Android phone im currently rocking. Its such a bad OS.

Will I be able to pre order 4 of them in one go, for delivery?
-
So are there actually people here considering changing a 4 for the new one?
-
Don't know for sure yet as they haven't released details even to Devs.
Last time iirc it was limited to 2 per customer pre-order
-
In the shop it was restricted to 2 per person on the 4
** Edit
Beat me to it lol

I think my 3G might have to go. :ashamed:
-
will have to see what the prices are...but more inclined to take the upgrade to the 4 rather than go OTT for the 4S.

LOL. Im well aware of the time difference from PST to GMT. I watched the damn keynote being blogged and wasnt an hour early for it.
The iPhone 4S will be available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK on Friday, October 14 and customers can pre-order their iPhone 4S beginning Friday, October 7. In the U.S., the iPhone 4S will be available on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. Apple support representatives are telling customers that pre-orders will begin online at 12:01 a.m Pacific (7:01 a.m. GMT).
Last year the same thing happened. The UK store opened a little earlier.
-
Yes but they are not including DST in those articles
PST is GMT-7 However we are in DST so it is actually GMT-8.
Let me know if you manage to do it at 07:01 as i bet you can't :P

-
According to the nice man at Apple, who ive just put the phone down to, you can pre-order from midnight!
-
I don't doubt that's what he told you but I would be surprised if we were allowed to order before the US :surprised:
-
I did think that, but it's only a pre-order. I did ask him to confirm it 3 times
-
I'm getting white for sure now Carl ;)
-
I have just checked with online support and the bottom line is this:
No times for the UK can be advised at present. I am being told repeatedly to check back on the store later this evening to see if times are published.
-
Gonna get a 64GB in white me thinks, just need vodafone to have stock left for my upgrade
-
Most likely I'll be awake at midnight so will update.
-
My guess is it'll be 8. But I'll be up at 6 anyways :(

So is the White 4S going to be 'chunkier' than the Black as it was with the 4?

So is the White 4S going to be 'chunkier' than the Black as it was with the 4?
The white 4 isnt chunkier. It was a manufacturing defect with some very early models of the white release.

I was hoping that the new iPhone would have had a better spec than this as with all the hype I was tempted to make the move from android to IOS, but I will probably now wait and see what the Samsung Google Nexus Prime will be like when the specs are released next week. :popcornsoda:
-
I see theres a fair few iphone 4's in the for sale section all of which appear to be overpriced in comparison to eBay (not that I am after one). The 4S is priced cheaper @ £499 so has really hurt iPhone 4 2nd hand prices. They seem to be going for £280-£300.
Great time to bag the missus a cheap phone!

No iPhone order at midnight then - He chuffin lied to me!

I must admit I do find it a liitle strange for those that are on the iPhone treadmill that people seem reluctant to get off. Soon as the new ones released there's 7 in the classifieds.
So I've got £200 quid to spend on a piefone 4 any takers......quick before they're £150!!!!!

Yeah, I do to. It's a three year cycle for me. You'd never buy each and every iteration of iMac, so I can't see why it's any different with the phone. Certainly in this case there's nothing on the 4S that would be a noticeable improvement on the 4 I have.
I worked out that with the corporate discount I get, less VAT, and selling my iPhone 4 I could change for just over £100. I'm just not interested.
-
I don't even know if my 4s is ordered. The money has left my account but I haven't had a confirmation page ( using a 3G connection in a car park) and no email yet.
I guess I've got an order placed as they took the money?

Can you not log into your account and see if there is an order?
-
I'm not sure what to do, I'm out of contract with tesco and suspect upgrade price will be £335 as before. But I could go to gifgaf and save £10 a month which would make the the £499 version cost me £380 over 12 months and I could just sit at home Friday and have it delivered.
Or, an O2 18 month contract which would cost me an extra £4 a month (as I get 30% discount) but would cost around £208 going on iPhone 4 prices. That would cost me £380 ish over 12 months (above gifgaf) but then I'd have another 6 months to run.
Think I might order one from Apple and return it if there are better deals out there?!
-
I've just ordered a couple while i think about what to do.
I haven't had an email but if I log into my account the order is placed so assume everything is fine for JPC

Carnt order one on an 02 contract on the car phone warehouse website just orange and vodafone
-
Due to the errors on the systems, i had 6x iPhone 4S 16gb phones ordered earlier. Finally managed to cancel all of them except the one i got the confirmation email for now.
-
I had the same thing deako but just found out three phones have been paid for and are going to be shipped. I've managed to speak to some people and going to offload the other two. But I only got one confirmation email. I hope three turn up now!!

You havent paid for anything yet. There is just a reservation on the funds. The ones that are cancelled will never be processed.

I worked out that buying the 4s outright will be more expensive than contract over 24 months with 100mins/100 texts, based on iPhone 4.
Think I'll wait for a contract deal.

I did calculations on an 18 month contract and for me, buying outright works out cheaper; (I've assumed the prices remain the same as the 4)
Apple and GifGaf sim only = £680
Tesco deal =£785
O2 =£910
Voda = £907
That is for the 16gb version with similar tariffs
-
If you adjust the 18-month contract, it would be more expensive over a 24-month period (ie (£/18)*24) than a 24-month contract but I used a 32GB iPhone 4 as mine.
-
I will never get tied in to another 24 months contract again. Mine doesnt even expire till Jun 2012. SIM free, sell when new phone released is the best way to go.
Going to move to giffgaff or Three once it expires on a rolling contract/payg.

Ordered mine with Vodafone this morning, should be here on the 14th hopefully.
Any decent carbon cases about for the 4G?, upgrading from a 3GS

What makes you think that Jay? For starters, it clearly states that its limited to 2x phones per customer.

I did it over a 3g connection in a car park on the way into work. I didn't know if id have zero ordered or 5 lol! i pressed confirm a few times on a few devices but didn't have any confirmation on any. well pissed off. then i checked my orders, 3 showed up then someone from apple called me. They were cool about it due to what when on with no confirmation.
apple called because of a random fraud check, the nice american lady was nice though! ;)

Ahh, when you said offload the others, i thought you meant cancel them. You'll make a killing to be honest, now that the shipping times for the whole of Europe have slipped to 1-2 weeks. :happy2:

I thought it was 2 pre-orders per customer?

Please send me your maths...Every single contract deal I have compared vs sim-only (bought outright), sim-only always wins.
I strongly recommend a Three 12 month sim-only contract £15 pm 600mins/2000txts/1GB for a good sim-only deal.

How good is three coverage these days? I know it had pretty awful feedback a few years back but this £10 tariff is tempting me!

300 Minutes

Its very good these days. Know plenty that use Three sims on their iPads. They have the largest 3G network in the UK. :happy2: I'll be moving to them most likely when my O2 contract ends.

My Brother works for 3 and I will be moving to 3 when I move back to England as thier 3G seems great & great VFM

Easy
My 18month contract with free 32Gb 4S on Vodafone will be £53p/m (£67 usually but I get a reduction of 20% forces discount :P)
£53 x 18 = £954
£954 - £59 that Vodafone are giving Pre order customers is £895
£895 - £350 I can get for the 32Gb iPhone 4 = £545
To buy the phone would cost me £600 then I would have to pay a monthly fee be it contract or PAYG on top. Even at a min of a £15p/m sim only deal would mean the total cost would be £780
So I can pay £545 total for 3000mins, unlimited texts, 1GB data, 25mb roaming data etc
Or
£780 for the phone and that sim you quoted.
Me thinks I'll get a contract and save £235

LOL Carl. You would still be selling the iPhone 4 for £350 as well. So the cost would actually be £430.

^^ Beat me to it

Your both wrong as if I bought the phone outright then my wife would be having the iPhone 4 to replace her 3GS so I wouldn't be recovering the cost :P :booty:
As it is because she can get the same deal she will get the 4S too.
Now don't start saying "now your paying out for two phones" as we are talking about the cost of one phone not two :P
And yes I do have an answer for everything

Winrya I've never had a problem. On occasions when I've not had signal, friends/colleagues on other networks havent either. Often I find I have 3G signal when others dont (particularly folk on O2 and Voda). It's important to point out that Three only operate/provide a 3G network. This has its pro's and con's.
Pro's are that when you do have signal its 3G and therefore fast. It's as such, reliably fast. Just the other day a m8 was trying to get footy scores on his O2 iPhone 4 and the app was taking ages to refresh because he could only manage a 2G connection. I pulled out my iPhone 4 on Three and got the scores up straight away. Having a smartphone is pretty much useless in my honest opinion if its >50% of the time on 2G.
Cons are that battery life is rumoured to be worse because somebody on a 2G + 3G provider will find themselves sometimes in an area where only 2G is available. When the phone is using 2G the phone will consume less power. Dont forget to make just a standard phone call all you need is 2G. If you live in a built up area though you will probably be on 3G all the time anyways. Another con is that you can't save battery life by forcing the handset only to use 2G (iPhone's allow you to do this). Forcing onto 2G can be useful when you have for example only 20% juice left and need it to last as long as possible.

We are talking about pure cost. So it doesn't matter how you play the figures you are still paying out on a monthly basis to be able to talk to people on your phone. It's just buying the phone outright has a higher initial cost.
-
You guys that buy the phone outright what do you do for a contract then? as surely if you bought a sim on contract you are still tied to 18-24 month contract?
-
I thought it was 2 pre-orders per customer?
It was two per order - I just did two seperate orders, and have confrimation for 4 phones!
-

I have four phones on my work account. Going Vodafone sim only and buying the phones outright will save me £3-4k over two years - no brainer! Im also now on a 12 month sim only contract
-

My O2 sim-only contract (£15 per month) was 12 months initially, then it just rolls.
-
What do you guys think to this, My current phone is I phone 3gs 16gb on orange 1200 mins, unlimited text, 750mb internet for £45 a month on 24 month con
Now my current contract ends April next year but I can upgrade early in Jan
But if I end early now I pay buy out fee of £140 but my 3GS is worth £140 ish
Then I can get a 4S for same contract details but handset for free on 16gb or 32gb for £80
What you guys think?

But bear in mind the £140 buy out fee is for a tariff you wont use.

Got my 4S being delivered in the morning ;)
Mine is out for delivery :pomppomp:
-
I have mine!
-
Waiting for mine.
-
got mine and already got rid of the other two! lol
-
Just ordered mine off the Orange website. They reckon it'll be delivered by tomorrow! Not convinced by that, so we'll see.
Boss had family-related issues so couldn't go to queue last night and I didn't want to be at the apple store on my own.
-
Still considering whether the 4S is a worthy upgrade from 4, or whether i should just save the money and stick with my current iPhone 4 for another year....
-
Well i have been messing with my 4S for about an hour now (after vodafone finally activated the sim :fighting:)
And it is noticeably slicker. Not played with SIRI yet as been modifying my Incase SnapCase to fit as they have moved the Mute button down slightly.
-
I've had my phone since about 8.30am Friday and loving it. Siri can be a bit temperamental but I guess it will improve with upgrades and you can't search for places in the uk yet. I had a 3G before so notice a massive difference so it was well worth the wait for me! Overall very happy customer :happy2:
-
Queued up for mine since 5:30 am, got to the till to only be told they wasn't doing business upgrades :surprised:
but we was told they were, then they couldn't do it because we didn't have a bank statement and it turned out to just be a complete mess! but non the less i got them to hold back mine and my brothers 2x64GB White for us to pick up later in the day! got it now all restored and i must say its amazing the difference in speed and quality of the phone!
But imo Seri is way to addictive + a good pull on the birds as there so amazed that you can talk directly to you phone and it will respond asap with the complete correct answer! only down side is that the Seri, uses USA language and needs a little tweaking for UK slag and pronunciations.
But other than that a wicked phone! 64GB White was defiantly the better choice, not only because there very rare atm, but because the resale valve of the phones when the iPhone 5 comes it will be much greater than all the others
-
^^ It's Siri dude
-
needs a little tweaking for UK slag
What App is used for that
-
Has anyone not had money taken out their account from apple? Theres no record on my account and it usually shows up by now ?
-
I ordered mine @ 11:30am on pre-order day and have an expected delivery of the 21st :( Must of missed the first batch.
-
I've had mine since about 10 on release day. I think it's defiantly worth the upgrade from the 4. I was amazed at how quickly websites load when not in a wi-fi zone, it's so much faster than the 4! Also very impressed with the camera and hd video recording. And it's still by far the best looking phone on the market in my opinion.
There are a couple of things I'm not so impressed by, firstly Siri. I think it has huge potential however, at the moment it's not uk friendly and the update isn't available until 2012. Finally, the battery isn't brilliant but I suppose that is to be expected these days from a smartphone.
-
More and more battery cases on the market these days, getting slimmer and more stylish too.
I think with a couple of updates Siri will be :happy2: :happy2:
-
I can't leave Siri alone. I absolutely love it!
-
Has anyone not had money taken out their account from apple? Theres no record on my account and it usually shows up by now ?
Not yet. Which i find quite odd. I received an invoice from Apple tonight though.
Been playing with them since Friday. Well impressed with the phone, but battery doesnt seem great. Still gets me through the day though and i tend to leave it docked all day at work.
-
I need to stop reading about these 4s iPhones.
I don't need to upgrade,
I don't need to upgrade,
I don't need to upgrade,
I don't need to upgrade.....
...do I ?
Is anyone else thinking the same? :sad1:
-
Ahhh mad! The little b******* auto corrected me with out me knowing haha!
Feel so embarrassed right now lol!!
Joe.
-
Mine arrive today.
Struggling to get it to sync after it auto-synchronises. Connect to the PC and iTunes loads up and it'll do its usual stuff. But if I then go to apps, select some apps to sync and press the sync button, it doesn't work!
Anyone else had this issue?
-
Its syncs in the background now, so it's possibly doing it and your not noticing it. Also you can sync through wifi now.
To check if it's sync look for 2 arrows rotating continuously, next to the signal bar.
Joe
-
It's not syncing - gets stuck waiting to prep the iphone to sync.
Never had this problem with the 3GS
-
Hmm never experienced this, have you tried resetting? or possibly switching it on and off.
You may of had a bad restore and you might need to wipe n restore again.
Joe.

You got it yet Mike?
Can someone tell me? Is FaceTime the same as a regular call? How does it work? 3G?
-
face time well the clue is in the title :signLOL: you talk face to face with other iPhone users that have the option for face time
-
How does it work? 3G?
Over Wi-Fi only...
-
Sorry Matt, I was referring to the cost of making a FaceTime call. Does it cost more than a voice call? I've just read what I wrote, and it's not clear.
Also I meant, does it require a 3G or wifi connection or does it work like a regular call?
-

Oh right, thanks Andrew.

I'd be interested to hear any opinions from people who have upgraded from 4 to 4S.
I didn't plan to get one but circumstance now means I have a 32Gb 4S on order. Is there any perceivable difference other than the Siri functionality? The camera specs look very good too. Also, is it accepted that the call dropping "feature" of the 4 is now resolved?
-
I may also order a 4s as my BB is playing up, has this battery issue been sorted?
-

I went from the 4 to 4S and it is definitely a worthwhile upgrade. Noticeably quicker than the 4 and the camera is very good for a phone and better than a lot of compact digital cameras i have used in the past. I never had a problem with call dropping on the 4 but it is not a problem I have seen reported for the 4S. FWIW I haven't got any battery problems either. Some tests have proved the battery problems to be software related (within iOS) rather than hardware related. It's not yet known why some have the problem and others don't.
-
I may also order a 4s as my BB is playing up, has this battery issue been sorted?
This is one major thing keeping me away from upgrading. I like the battery life of my 4, it survives the day with my use.

I just upgraded to the 64GB 4S a couple of days ago. Really pleased with it :happy2: It's so much faster than my old 3G. The camera is very good for a phone camera and the audio quality has also improved - it's hard to tell the difference between that and CD's now, even through a pair a studio reference cans. I've not had the chance to try out Siri yet but will have a good play around with it over the weekend. It's definitely a worthwhile upgrade IMHO.
If anyone is interested in a 16GB 3G I have one for sale. Pretty much mint condition - it's been in a case all of it's life. Yours for £90. PM me if you're interested and I can send you some pics.
-
I bought 2 4S's :D
:signLOL:

I got my 4S a few days ago, and to be honest I can't see any difference over the 4 it replaced. I'd be mightily peeved off if it had cost me to upgrade.

I'm on my second 4S already due to iCloud not working on my first one. Into see Apple again tomorrow for the same fault again, and call dropping and not connecting, even though it has for the person I'm calling. It also plays around when I plug my headphones in it, and most calls come out the speaker not the headphones? Surely I can't be unlucky enough to have two faulty iPhones?? Can I?
