i was just wondering - my car recently went in for a touch of warranty work and came back with new coils a la coil pack recall.
my DIS now seems to be telling me i'm getting better fuel mileage, and the petrol gauge seems to concur. no mods in between, no change in driving style and driving on the same roads at the same times in all conditions
are the two linked? or is it magic?

Depends on whether they were faulty or not. I had one misfiring coilpack and I could not get better than 28-29mpg. Replaced all four and suddenly I was getting 35+mpg. Apparently there's a redesign as well which would help.

As above, if it was faulty I would say putting a new one in would definately help improve MPG :happy2:

nope no difference in how the car runs, just the better fuel economy... oh well i'm not complaining :laugh:

We drove up to Dereham, Norfolk, to see in-laws and stopped at Ipswich on the way back to see friends. A 230 mile round trip. With some conservative driving the best MPG I could was 33mpg. I managed to get 35mpg when limited to 40 on single carriageway. Ive looked at the logbook/service history and states nowhere coilpacks have been changed. Since we bought it from VW could we get this changed if there was a recall in the past?
I have a 2007 Edition30 25000 miles.

It depends on the ones you have in the car. Look at the part code and the end letter is the important one. I cant remember off my head which letters are being changed but a quick google will tell u

Depends on the year and whether its already been done.
Mine is a 57-plate and wasn't eligible for the recall so I had to pay for all four out of my own pocket. Replaced all four because of stories I've heard about one failing and the rest follow soon after.

I have a 2007 ED30 and when it went in for a major service the other week i asked about the coilpack recall and was told my car wasn't in the affected range so maybe yours isn't?
I've just filled my car up again today and worked out the mpg (90% town driving)
Display - 27 - 29mpg
Actual - 26.8mpg
poor but better than the ST and VXR at 23mpg :sad1:

(if yours is within this range, its affected)

Also, check the coilpack number, mine falls under the VIN number recall and will check the coilpack number tomorrow. However, the first owner only lived a few miles away from the VW garage where I bought it so I'm guesing they will have probably had it changed. But from the service we experienced at the garage, my hopes will be dashed.
If you have a 2.0FSI engine and your coil part number is:
06F 905 115 F
07K 905 715 D/E
06H 905 115
06D 905 115 K
06E 905 115 D/E
06H 905 115
Then your car is OK and does not need anything. If it does NOT have one of those coils, then you need the newer coil.
