Title: Grill with Red Trim
Post by: bird752 on October 26, 2011, 12:55:56 pm
Hi all!  Currently serving somewhere hot ending in Stan and when I return I am looking for the best place to buy a grill with the red trim.  When I bought my car the previous owner must have had the red bit removed so it looks all black to go witht the black VW badge.  Any help would be gratefully received.  Oh btw is it easy to fit?

Thanks to the replies so far but I probably didnt make myself clear enough!  I know that I will have to buy the whole grill with the trim, the question was where is the best/cheapest place to get it?  Of course the VW garage have them but want about £120 for it.  Ive seen them on E-Bay but has any one bought one from there?  Is it good quality?  And finally can a novice like myself fit it?  Thanks in advance.

It's real easy to remove. There are two screws below the solid middle piece. Two more up top under the bonnet/hood. Then two release tabs up top under the bonnet as well. With all the screws removed, pull the two tabs while lifting up and then away.

When u get back from ??????stan I'd double check to see if it has def been removed :happy2:
It's most likely been painted black rather than removed, in which case u could always paint it red again or use the insulation tape method

If not keep checking eBay for the full grille. You might find a damaged grille that you can buy and remove the lipstick trim

I nearly bought one without the red stripe, a nice sliver one. thought it looked really nice, aggressive and unusual. but ended up buying a black one with the red stripe.

what colour is your car?

Thanks for all the replies guys, appreciate it.  Im back from here in March 12 and  the red trim has definatelt been removed.  I have placed some red piping in there for now but its not as good as the proper grill plus trim.  I will buy on my return.  Thanks again.
