would the Mk6 engine cover fit the MK5 engines?

not without some modifications

sure ive seen them on a few mk5's

think you've to take the bottom off the mk5 one then cut it down to fit the back of the mk6 model then clue or plastic weld them together

Does the mk6 GTi use the Tsi engine exclusively?  If so then it won't fit.

Excluding the R, the answer is yes.

The 'R' uses a modified version of the ED30 lump doesn't it?

Eddy doesn't have stronger internals so the .:R engine has more in common with the S3/TT-S engines than the Eddy engine. (shares engine codes too.) not just being an Audi owner, i'd swap my car for a MkVI Ed35 in a heartbeat  :driver:
