Dunno if you guys have noticed but there's been some heavy rainfall in the past few days.
Was driving home and there were huge puddles (for lack of a better word) reaching up to kerb height in some regions of the road. I slowed down through these areas where I could see what lay ahead but sometimes things caught me by surprise.
Apart from not engaging the turbos, is there anything else I can do to help my car during current weather conditions?
-
just slow down a bit i guess, not allot else you can do imo

If you 'HAVE' to go though deep running water, just make sure you keep you foot on the accelerator as if you lift of the car will suck in air and water with it

Wouldn't it suck in water via the intake if the water is high enough regardless of if your foot is on or off the accelerator?

In most of the cases of water damage I've seen it's when they panic and back of to stop!
If it's that high and you still attempt to drive through it you deserve to blow your engine up :signIWS:

Tell me about it ! the rain was mental on the M1 today ! Seen alot of cars on the hardshoulder ! :surprised:

I think the logic in not slowing down is that it creates a bow wave and keeps the water away from your intake?

Its also one of the few sites that websense allows at work so good work fella's.

I remember them harking about bow-waves on TG when they had to cross Africa.
-
Well I for one would not take my GTI through any water deep enough to make a bow wave :surprised: :scared:
I'll leave that to my 'off road' days in other peoples cars

Had to travel "down south" last Sunday night in quite possibly the worst condition ever. Couldn't see out of the windscreen very far that much spray and rain. Happy to have left my car at home and used somebody else's. :)

YEah I was travelling from midlands to down south and the weather was pretty horrendous. Didn't go above 60mph due to traffic or due to weather conditions, apart from a coupla blips of course
But when I was travelling back from work, had no idea there were gonna be big puddles until I actually came across them, plus I don't have any other car. I had to drive through the large puddles to get back home. Thankfully they were gone the next day.
