Sods law. On the eve of Stage2, the f*cker breaks down.
When coming to a stop the car will loose all revs and just stall. It's intermittent so some times it will happen every time you start the engine. And some times it won't.
The pudding heads at the AA plugged in diagnostics and it showed nothing apart from the catalytic convertor light due to the 3" downpipe decat but it's just a basic bit of kit.
Any ideas guys? I'm ready to throw a match on the thing. :sad1: :sad1:
Nick
Ps. Car is dsg
-
Odd that a DSG will just loose revs and stall
Can you get VCDS on it properly?

I don't have it mate. :(
And my garage won't open till monday

Where are you based?

Where are you based?
Doncaster
-
Could the fitting of coilovers have knocked something?
-
Miles away from me :sad1: Would of scanned it if I was closer!
Have you checked coilpacks/sparks?
Umm it depends there are some fragile sensors down there, but I wouldn't think they could have got to them from the wheel arches
Did it just start to happen out the blue?
-
Yeah since the coileys coincidently.
...well a day after
-
Is the oil cap on and is the dipstick pushed down all the way?
Do you get any engine lights?
-
Nick.. I will PM you Dannyboys number.. The Jetta you detailed a few weeks back. His mate has vagcom and has offered his services.
-
Cheers gulf. :happy2:
Yeah their all the way down alex. When I pull out the dipstick it runs lumpy.
*they're
-
do these cars have an egr valve? my old astra used to do this and changing the egr valve sorted it
-
:sad1:
Been mapping boring, non challenging stuff all week, was looking forward to doing a nice stg2 Tfsi tomorrow.
If it will make it up here then I will gladly give it a look over, im guessing a fuel pressure issue when it cuts out is it when coming to a stop or does it cut out randomly, i.e at speed and under load?
You have my number if you need any help over the weekend. I have a guy in Doncaster with vagcom, sure he will help out if hes available over the weekend.
-
Spoke to my mate in Doncaster, he is away all weekend but will gladly help you out on monday if required :happy2:
-
Sorry to hear bout that nick.... Kind of answers my question I asked you via email :scared:
-
Hi Dave,
Thanks for contacting your friend for me.
The car usually cuts out when coming to a stop. But when cold this morning, it cut out about 1,500 revs.
It's pointing towards fuel pressure I guess, but it's very coincidental that it happened after my coilovers been fitted  :chicken:
-
give it a good look over around the areas where they would have been working when fitting the coilovers, personally cant think of anything that would connect the 2 things.
does it smoothly cut out as in the revs slowly drop and cuts out or does it stutter and choke a bit?

Lovely and smooth haha. It jerks abit when you try and catch it before it cuts out if you get me? But it's usually very smooth.

Since the bad day she had Friday I left her on the drive over the weekend.
Went out in it tonight to see if things had changed. I had one loud missfire/pop (like a skyline gtr lol) and everything seems fine now.
Infact, it's the best it's ever driven. I went through a few heat cycles and turned it on and off a few times and everything seems okay.... Hmmm :stupid:
-
Good... Cos you looked pants in you're mums Volvo... :signLOL:
-
Update:
Vagcom showed intermittent errors with high and low fuel pressures. :stupid:
Following VCDS's recommendations and that of VagCo, we've ordered a new 'low pressure fuel sensor' for the fuel pump.
This should sort the problems out...
-
Mine used to do this it was the dv is your a forge one by any chance as they stick and it causes the car to randomly stall when stopping intermitently.

It's a new revision D mate. :sad1:
-
Just make sure the sensor is clipped on the dv correctly failing that ive no idea.
-
Sorry i could get your car scanned over the weekend mate, trust my friend to be away lol :-( but if anyone in the south yorkshire area needs a Vagcom scan contact me and i'll let my friend know :-) his prices are cheap
-
Keano. If you want to borrow my VCDS cable for logging etc. just let me know. I'll send it up to you and you can drop it off at my parents. :-)

Cheers Richy! :drinking:

Hope it's sorted Nick :sad1: Can borrow my cable as of 12Dec

That is EXACTLY what happened to mine. VW told me that it was the cam follower and the HPFP however the local specialist said it was the low fuel pressure sensor mounted near the front of the engine. That was a £50 part plus fitting. I did check the came follower my self too.

Yeah I sh*t a brick when I thought it was the fuel pump! (£400)
Was your car sorted after this then mate?
-
Pretty much. Mine got really really bad though and wouldn't find for more than a few seconds. As soon as he swapped the sensor it ran smooth as but I'm convinced it's left a flat spot. Probably just me though that bit.
If you try searching you'll probably find my thread about it which listed the part replaced. I would find it my self but on the phone and its a real pain to cut and paste etc.
-
I had a similar problem: clicky (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=7642.0)
Mine all happened in one day - no problems at all and then suddenly it cut out. I had to keep the revs high and not allow the engine to idle or it would cut out.
-
I also have had to change my low fuel pressure sensor on the pump. Similar issues to above. Wasn't to exspensive. Of the top of my head sensor G428. Hope you get it all sorted soon.
On a side note the sports cat is now all on and sorted all be it after a bit more welding usual milltek problems. BDMAlex did a nice job with his welding skills. Thanks for the deal
