Title: Badging your car as something else
Post by: sub39h on December 07, 2011, 10:51:45 pm
hi guys,

there's a guy who lives in the same block of flats as me who drives a B8 A4 S-Line. i think he's got a dual exhaust Milly recently, so it looks like one of the V6 cars (rather than twin exhausts on one side like the 4 cyl models)

BUT

he's also put an S4 badge on it

don't get me wrong, it's a nice A4. but i thought that anyone who would care enough to notice an S4 would also notice that this isn't an S4 so what's the point?

i'm not gonna say it "grinds my gears" or whatever, because it doesn't. (reps however, do. i don't understand why ppl make their SDIs or 1.6s look ike S3s or GTIs or whatever else.) with said exception of reps i'd say you should do what you like with the car, but putting badges on it to make it look like a car it's not seems a bit pointless. what do you guys think?

Things like this annoy me aswell and I just giggle at the poor people that have to do this

But on the other hand the people that don't know much about cars will just think its the real deal

The debate has been had many a time on here and I think the general feeling was that people can do what they like to their cars but putting a badge on claiming its something it isn't is just dumb!

Used to see it ALL the time in the late 90's with BMW M3's  :stupid:
(M3's with 1.6 exhausts and beige cloth interiors)

It's like putting the gti front end on a diesel and leaving the badges on

When you say badged as something do you mean along the lines of.......

worst one i've ever seen was a guy on Audi-Sport who wanted to put the new "SUPERCHARGED" wing badges from the higher powered V6 TFSI A6s on his wings instead of his S-Line ones. it didn't make ANY sense! he drove a 1.4T and NONE OF THE 8Ps ARE EVEN SUPERCHARGED. had a massive arguement with him about it lol.

yeah ETTO and all that, but if someone's doing something retarded somebody needs to educate them

EDIT:

When you say badged as something do you mean along the lines of.......

^that's worse. Merc roundel isn't even in the middle!!!

When I fitted my GTI front end I made sure the GTI badge was removed, I did consider the GT TDI grill But at the time I preferred the red insert on the GTI grill, it is very much each to there own, but one things for sure when I had my Astra cab I fitted a v6 vectra lump in it but didn't/forgot to remove the 1.6 badge, it would raise a smile when Saco owners tried and failed off the lights

My GTI is my first car that has a badge on it (just because it's obvious it's a GTI
and I like the red 'GTI' + rabbit from the US 2001 anniversary). Formely I always
praticed some kind of understatement.

I remember when I was a child some GTI owners liked to put a GTD badge on
their cars or just a 'Golf' or 'Rabbit'. That's the way to go !!

No idea mate, I'm not a wheel man.

If it's the same one, I was in it a couple of years ago, rapid.

That's when rebadging is funny!

So many nobs do it round my way!! Really grinds me!!

Young lad has a MK6 1.4 that has the worst rep GTI kit on I have ever seen and two jap style exhausts that stick out of the arse end about 12 inches! Guess what, it is badged up as a GTI. He goes round every ragging the sh*t out of it and tries to race me at every possible opportunity  :fighting: :fighting:

JohnnyC's old S3 I believe. :driver:

Sounds like everyone is talking about his old S3, a lad called Dan I think. There was a funny story on the Megane Sport forums about a lad 'having a go' after seeing the TDI badge  :signLOL:

Think he was selling or has sold it from what I was reading a while ago on Audi-sport.

up for 21k or swap for standard s3 for him to sell. 580hp I hear.

Saw a crappy mk2 TT V6 badged up as a TTRS. Lucky for him I was in my van and not the RS or he might have felt more of a numpty  :signLOL:
