Just a heads up for everyone to be careful. At my mums for Christmas, woke up to my mum screaming and crying, the house had been broken into, my mums car and mobile and bag had been nicked. Contents of her bag were all tipped out beside my car on the drive. They nicked her car as they couldn't find my keys. Nothing else taken even though laptop and iPad and other easy to take stuff was in the front room.
Police came and they seemed to think they were after my car, they got finger prints off the front door.
Not a nice thing to happen but could have been slot worse I suppose, be careful boys n girls
-
Feel sorry for you, not nice at all when someone else has been in your house. There are some scum bags around :fighting: . On the plus side at least you are all safe.
-
Thanks, your right, someone bein in the house is the worst bit. Has shook my mum up a bit. Had planned on going home today but think I will stick around for another couple of days
-
Sorry to hear this, least your all safe
-
Terrible that these xxxxxx prey at Christmas and are brazen enough to come into your home when they are probably aware there is a house full of people asleep...
I had a mk2 Golf nicked a few years ago by them breaking in and getting the keys at nightime - horrible thought.
Easy bro and hope your Ma is ok
-
Sorry to hear about this mate,I had the same situation 5yrs ago...I had a Subaru p1,the fookers fished the keys out of the letter box..
-
This is becoming a worrying theme reading threads like this.
It's absolutely appalling, the sick barstewardss should be locked up for a very long time.
Do many people have CCTV? Thinking of getting it set up.
-
Sorry to hear this but glad to hear everyone is okay. I was already concerned as thieves will hit that time of year when people might be more lax about security, have lots of presents including electronic goodies etc.
-

Be careful, they'll be back for another go at your motor! :fighting:
-
Glad to hear no one got hurt, these waster's make's me sick, and if you manage to catch em you can't do anything which make's it even more of a kick in the nut's. :surprised:
-
Sorry to hear this mate, you should consider CCTV as we have 4cars in the household and CCTV covers em all
-
Horrid thought buddy, hope your all ok tho! Makes me think a garage at my 1st house is even more of a must than I thought
What sort of areas did this happen? Wasn't around worcestshire was it :scared:

Sorry to hear this, it's bad at this time of year for it, we fit CCTV and external alarm systems, Prior to Christmas we had 11 to do they were all from the houses being broke into and the cars being taken... One of them they loaded stuff into the Range Rover before taking it........ Get an external alarm system at least they are a better deterrent but if you can stretch have both fitted it works out at about £3k fitted for both.....

This is becoming a lot more common. Wasters get away with it. The best thing that could happen to them is stuff the car into a well and burn alive.
That's justice.
Then some do gooder would try and claim from you for something.

I'm not a big apologist for the Police but I'm sure that isn't true. I think it's more often simply that their isn't much they can do. Their budgets are none-existent and they have far more serious crime to deal with.
-
Im just glad you and your family are okay. Stay safe.
-
Glad you're all ok - I know exactly how you and your mum feels and it's bloody awful.
We were broken into last year but the scum didn't get the car keys as they were upstairs in our bedroom as we were sleeping.
Police recommend keeping keys with you at all times. It takes a brazen thief to break in and come and confront you for the keys - as (if caught) this type of crime carries a bigger sentence (aggravated vehicle taking) and usually puts them off.
CCTV, anti snap door locks, a dog and a security light with an internal alarm attached did the job for us.
-
Thanks for all your advice, am in the process of trying to get my parents to get a dog, we got away lightly this time and my mum is kind of coming round to the fact of what happened, but I live 200 miles away so would like them to get a dog of some sort. It's that bad that my mum asked me to move my car of the drive tonight, so sad she dont feel safe in her own house :-((

Thats terrible , these people care nothing about decent folks , just their own greedy lazy scumbag ways. Hopefully santa brought them a terminal illness for christmas.

+1 Dreggs of society scum of the earth :fighting:,they will never do without.least they left empty handed and your mother and yourself not harmend.
-
You say police do not do anything, in some cases they can't. Two nites ago, there were 9 bobbies on shift covering the whole of Halifax, 140 sq miles!!

your kidding :surprised: i live in halifax and thats shocking :scared: is that due to cuts then?
-
Yes thats right and im speaking from previous circum, just give you an crime number and your another stat.they dont seem to view it as the seriousness that it deserves imo,its just another attempted car break in they never see the trauma side it brings to the victim or there family.but we the victim lay a hand on the scummy a-holse and we get charged cause we are the easier person/s to deal with, woulkd make you sick.
-
Mate, your anger would more appropriately directed at the government rather than the Police. They are after all just doing a job the best they can.

You are quite possibly the most pc person ever :signLOL: i think everyone knows that most of the police do a good good job really.

Can you set your alarm for downstairs coverage only?
They are the scum of the earth. A friend lives in a roughish part of manchester and they have been going along the back of the houses kicking in the fence panels in preparation to steal stuff. Canoots! :fighting: :fighting:
A dog is a good idea! :happy2:
-
After my Skoda was stolen the Police were excellent. They even wrote to me to tell me when the thieving pikey scum had been sentenced and how long for. :happy2:
-
When we were calling the police about the break in I was moaning about them a bit, saying they won't turn up for 2 days and then come and do nothing etc etc, I couldn't have been more wrong, they were there in about 30 mins and the SOCO guy was about 5 mins behind them. They asked all the usual questions and took my parents finger prints, not mine or my gf or daughter though which I thought was strange. Haven't heard anything about mums car which I expected to be found dumped somewhere, have had to wheel my old mk4 golf out of the garage for her to run around in til they get something sorted.

Depending if you have the facility for partitions on the alarm you can
-
My parents are getting an alarm installed, bit like locking the gate after the horse has bolted but better late then never. Anyone know decent alarm companies?

Sorry Matt, no jokes, think the shift on were short of bodies, but it just shows. Public do not realise the resources they try to work with, as soon as they get a lock up they are tied up in custody for what could be a couple of hours. Even worse if a lock up claims illness/injury, they can be stuck in a&e looking after someone, rather than on the streets doing the job they would rather be doing!

Does your mum like dogs. Best detterent there is. A big bark will deter them. I go away alot and my dog makes the wife feel safe alone. Plus id not want to be the person who tries to get in my house with the dog.

50kg Akita flying down the stairs would be a brave man to tackle that

My 2x JRTs can give a nasty lick.
When they bark they sound like Chihuahas lol. Not much of a deterrent.
Sorry to hear of the break in, this was something that always worried me when i had my Mk5 GTI and the Scirocco GT. However, i leave the keys on show now we have the Fiat 500, in the hope someone breaks in and takes it. Its ok though, as its the wifes car.
-
When I was away for my holidays 17th through to 24th December, I left my car outside my own house but my keys were left at my mates house 3 miles away, if they broke in they would find an empty house (pretty much just a bed in there) as I only use it for a weekend crash pad which gets used around 5 times per year, the rest of the time I live at my parents summer house in sunny Norfolk.
Hate the thought of thieving scum in your house while you sleep, i cant say what i would do if i woke up to that! :fighting:
-
A burglar has just been released and said that things like a dog, alarm ,real or fake and a gravel drive are some of the best deterrants available.

Should be alright then, mums summer house has gravel drive, outside security lights (think your local footy club paying an evening match lol) an alarm and 2 dogs keeping me company (ones a Biter the other a Licker!).

I can't agree more - we live in Sheffield and the police were great with us arriving really quickly. They also sent a crime prevention officer around who gave us some shock alarms (small alarms for each window, door, etc which go off if the window is smashed) for all the windows. He also checked out our property and gave us pointers for what we could do to deter thieves in future. It would be good if you could ask your local police force if they have such a service as some of the questions that you're asking ( names of good alarm companies, etc) could be answered.

I live in my parents pool house 36 months a year (though they don't know), and spend the rest of the year in their Verbier ski chalet.

Not exactly privelidged, I live in their summer house as I run the family business (Which is based in Norfolk, hence necessity rather than a choice!) while they are away enjoying their semi-retirement.
Oh and for the funny guy who mentioned Verbier (Parker), I have never been! I dont do pretentious resorts, try to avoid as best I can, I prefer fun resorts with good snowboarding and sensible prices (hopefully meaning I can go twice a year!).
Now chaps rather than taking a stab at me, back on point eh?!

Dude, it's Friday, we're just having a bit of fun!

Hi Carla, the crime prevention offofier was round at my parents yesterday and did all the things you said, was all about tightening up security a bit. Also left the names of a few local reputable security companies and a few of the bigger national ones as well. All good advice, just hope my parents follow the advice!!!!
-
Friday or not, it did not read as funny to me, glad you all enjoyed it, now I have to go as the gardener has just arrived and I need him to mow the south estate lawns as they are looking a tad long :booty:
ON a more serious note, glad the coppers are taking it seriously, hope they manage to match up some prints and bang up some scrotes!.
-
Just read this.
How really awful. Makes me sick and angry.
This sort of thing seems to be happining more often in Yorkshire. It seems there is a big gang stealing Mk5/ Mk6 GTIs and Mk6 Rs.
It's bound to get worse as we merrily head into recession.
