So as some of you are aware I recently sold my Focus ST (which was immense) and after doing fairly well on it I have managed to get back in a MK5 around 12 months earlier than I'd hoped!! :jumpmove:
I did agonise for a while at which one I'd have, but as I will now be doing a few more miles I had to rule out another R32.
So back to the KO4 and there was only really one left I hadn't owned, so the search was on for a specific Pirelli! Had to be Silver, three door and decided to go DSG again as I've been recently suffering with sciatic pain in my lower back which had been aggravated when driving a manual.
Here she is the day I collected her. Obviously I have a few plans to mod but will only be going ST2.

Really happy so far and it goes far better than I remember when standard. Will keep things updated as there should be a few changes next week, firstly being a full correction detail as soon as the temperature gets above freezing! :happy2:
-
Looks lovely Nathan. :happy2: I was also looking at Pirellis on the VW website before i decided that i really wanted the Polo. Look forward to updates.
-
Looks like you've found a good'en, very nice
Don't see many pirelli's :happy2:
-
Very nice looking specimen, will enjoy watching what you'll do to this one :drinking:
-
Very nice but may be biased :happy2:
-
Ver nice :congrats:
-
Very nice mate and DSG too. So you and Mark have a matching pair. :happy2:
-
Lovely looking Pirelli, glad to see your back in the Mk5 fold :drinking:
-
Very nice mate - you need some Deeetroits on it though!
Did you ever consider a Rocco?
-
V nice motor. :congrats:
-
Looks spot on that :happy2:
-
What's the spec, Nath :happy2:
-
Very nice, rare and exclusive
does mean you have to buy pirelli tyres from now on
-
Nice mate :happy2:
-
Vellly noice mate :happy2:
-
:happy2: Nice one
-
Excellent mate. Great to see you in a MK5. I kept having to dissuade myself from snooping around your place to work out what you had bought!
I understand the DSG appeal and having driven a DSG (not a GTI though) can see the pros of it. But the questions I have are: why silver, and if your old car was offered back, would you have bought it?
Hopefully will get to see the car in the flesh next weekend.
-
Thanks all! :happy2:
Very nice mate and DSG too. So you and Mark have a matching pair. :happy2:
Yes, twins are reunited!
Very nice mate - you need some Deeetroits on it though!
Did you ever consider a Rocco?
Thanks matey, no not really. Would only really have an .:R and a little out of my price range. Plus they aren't ideal for mobile detailing!
Very nice, rare and exclusive

Funny you should say that, the dealer has just put 4 x spanking new Goodyears on! :sad1: So will have to get them changed at some point as it will clash with my OCD tendencies!
What's the spec, Nath :happy2:
Pretty standard for now, only iPod dock and cruise as options but MF buttons and high line will be fitted along with an RNS at some point! :happy2:
-

Thanks Jaz! :happy2:
To be honest after having had the Eddy for three years I wanted it to be different, another reason why I went for the DSG. And Silver is the future Jaz, didn't anyone tell you?
And yes, I'd have the old girl back in a heart beat! She is being cherished just as much by Andy these days so I have had to let go!
-
I hate silver for two reasons: boring/plain, and look the same whether dirty or clean.
Pity you can't diamond-cut those alloys!

Well thats part of the attraction Stealth as I like my car to look clean even when it isn't! :pomppomp:
Not sure what to do with the alloys so they will stay as is for now!
-
Good to see you back in the club mate. she looks a ripper :happy2:

Looks very nice, I thought it would be a Pirelli when I was reading through your 'wanted' thread... :happy2:
I hate silver for two reasons: boring/plain, and look the same whether dirty or clean.
It's just 'versatile' and ideal for people like me who doesn't like cleaning cars that much!
-
Very nice Nath its a shame you wasn't looking 12 months ago when Rich got rid of his has that was speced to the hilt but yours is just as nice well done on the new wheels mate :happy2:
Darren
-
Nousey is a detailer. I'd have thought a white/black/red/blue car would have shown his skills off.
No xenons? What extras did it come with? Or was it pov spec? Am sure it won't be standard much longer.
-
Very very nice :notworthy:

Thanks Daz! Yes there was only one thing wrong with Rich's car........................ Rich! :signLOL:
The spec will be there soon enough!

I get to show my 'skills' of enough Jaz! Agree Black is best when it's clean, but it don't tay that way for long and I don't have the the to be cleaning my own car every other day! Plus I love silver anyway, very underrated and still stunning when corrected and waxed!
Spec as above! :happy2:
-
Very very nice :notworthy:
Thanks Andy! :drinking:
-
nice 1 mate :happy2: looks lovely
-
Black is a total bitch of a colour. There's nothing more depressing than spending hours cleaning your car, then it being dirty the next day.
-
gorgeous Nath :happy2:
is this where you state DSG is better than stick :signLOL:
Im sure its gonna be pretty special and unique in very short order :notworthy:
(keeping the wheels std for a bit           dont make me laugh....)
-
 Got me susssed eh JonnO!
DSG has it's upsides, but for me it would be a manual for track work all day long!
nice 1 mate :happy2: looks lovely
Cheers Gazla!
-
LOVE it Nath :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
When I bought mine and then when I first saw Rich's old Pirelli, I wished I'd have gone for one too. :sad1:
Pirelli's are Uber Nice. :star:
Great colour too mate :happy2:

I love the DSG, and I wouldn't go back to manual given the choice….but I have to agree with you too. A Manual gearbox just gives you that extra bit of confidence and control I think…..but that could just be cos the DSG has made me lazy. :ashamed:
Sticking it in "D" is far too easy, and then when I try to use the paddles round the track, I forget Im not in "D" :driver:
Just need lots of track days this year
-
Looks great Nath, nice colour too, it's a more practical version of the white imo.
Keen to see what you do with it over the coming months. :happy2:
-
Learn to drive the DSG in manual mode on the steering wheel. I never use D, even trawling around town.
much more fun :happy2:
-
Nice mate, didnt take you long to ditch the ford !
How are you liking the seats ?
-
Yes!!! He's back in the game!!
-
Nice mate, didnt take you long to ditch the ford !

No she wasn't around for long, but more due to circumstance than me not liking the car in any way! Yeh I love the seats in the Pirelli, I realise the yellow stitching isn't to everyones taste but it's not as bright as some pics make out! :happy2:
Yes!!! He's back in the game!!
:jumpmove:

Love it Mate! Always wanted a Pirelli
-

The pirelli is a beautiful car , but would look incredible with some monza shadows

Good to see you back in a mark 5 gti Nath :happy2: Great choice the Pirelli.
Have you decided what software, exhaust, intake to get to stage 2? Just being nosey whether you will use the same components as you did for your edition 30 or try alternatives
-
Though to be fair you only picked it up yesterday, stage 2 wont arrive that quickly surely lol
-
Nice one Nath :happy2:
Best MkV colour (I'm biased too!)
Glad to see you got a VW again and finally ditched the F**d.
I'm hoping to see a lovely sparkly silver Pirelli detail thread soon then  :popcornsoda:
-
Though to be fair you only picked it up yesterday, stage 2 wont arrive that quickly surely lol
Don't be so sure Alan, he's already sorted lots of bits and pieces out before he even took delivery of the car! He's even raided my garage! :signLOL:
-
Welcome back Greeners - What are you going to dress the old girl in?
I would recommend jeffs werkstatt on silver - It looks great on my Akoya silver Audi, and the detailing god himself recommended it to me (JPC)
-
lookin good nath cant wait 2 c her in the flesh dude :happy2:
-
Thanks guys! :drinking:
Yes a few bits have been gathered already, but more to come. I will update as and when things get fitted. I have no longing to stick with the same manufacturers as before, it's all about bargains this time as I have spent more than I was planning!
Detailing wise I'll use what I have at the moment but I'll certainly invest in some Jeffs if the main man said its the best for Silver! :happy2:
-
I have spent more than I was planning!
I know that feeling!!
This forum does seem to help to spend your hard earned cash very easily
-
Well done pal. :pomppomp: I much prefer the pirelli over the Eddie these days. I know Flora was desperate for a silver one, so at least you have your usual buyer back at the front of the que again. :happy2:
Enjoy it mate. :drinking:

I do believe Marky set the trend for the Pirelli.
Have you considered APR for the map. I believe there are deals to be had.

Nice car Nath, I'd only have black or silver myself too. Looks in great nick!
Any plans to pop down to MK to 'tweak' it?

Thanks Andy, I may be down there at some point! :happy2:
Hows the clutch in the 'old girl'?
-
Looking good Nath :happy2:
She looks great
-
There's no point just taking pics of the exterior when you have a P. Get those interior pics up, I wana see them seats!!!!!
Welcome back to the mk5 btw.
-
Congratulations on the Pirelli, i gave up looking in the end for a nice spec'd one, would take me forever to retro fit.
Shall be watching closely for the build thread :signLOL:
-
Well let me know if you will be down to VWR and i'll pop down, only round the corner from work.
Clutch is fine as long as I drive sensibly.......no problems whatsoever. I'll save some pennies for a new one though

The colour, number of doors and gearbox were more important for me. Saying that already dealt with a couple of the 'missing' options!

Lovely looking P. I really like the wheels and the interior. A drop would make a big impact straight away.
-
Love the Pirelli's , I don't think i've ever seen one in the flesh :sad1:
It's all about the interior though, love them seats :happy2:
Cheers,

Looking great Nathan! Can we have some more photos of down the side of the car please? I'd like to see how the wheels look in relation to the arch post lowering.
Also what plugs did you go for? I have my 40k service creeping up soon and I wanted to find out what plugs are susposed to be used, but if there's an upgrade I'll do that! :happy2:

I notice that the new OEM Plugs for the TSI are a step colder than before. New ones are NGK PFR7S8EG JP. Only reason is i looked if those you got were compatible with the TSI but it appears not
-
Where those the sportline springs? Awesome Gti says up to 50mm but without being rude it doesnt look much more than 15-20mm from the before and after pics.
Wil be interested to see what its like after a few days.
-
Looking good :notworthy:

Lovely car Nathan :happy2: I still have a soft spot for a good looking silver MKV
Goes well downhill too!

Looking good as always Nath :happy2: you always have a tidy motor, keep the mods coming.

Thanks :happy2:
I'd have to ask the dealer as I haven't touched it as yet! In fairness when it has been clean the paint doesn't look too bad, but will be loads better as and when I get the chance!

I'm not sure. He said he didn't do anything other than a quick wash as he didn't have time. TBH I'm expecting nothing short of perfection and something better than his Black Beauty.

What about the RS4? :popcornsoda:

Once the RS4 has had tyres a wheel refurb and brakes all round ( :surprised: ) she'll be in the For Sale section!

To be honest the power delivery isn't for me. It is damn quick there is no doubt but doesn't 'feel' as quick as a turbo'd car.

If its any consolation it was only the wheels in the main which looked bad.......it's a lot worse for black as you well know! Hence why I wanted silver!

PS. We need a clean pic of the twins! :happy2:

Aluminium Ashtray Lid
Gulf GTI Seat inserts
Pirelli logo on dash
Pirelli Logo in rear screen (Thanks VC  )
Bury iPhone 4 Handsfree Cradle
Satin Black VW Badge (still to be fitted)
OSIR Dead Pedal Rest (still to be fitted)
K&N Panel Filter (Thanks Flora! )
New Pirelli Centre Caps
VWR TB Exhaust with Shallow Back Box (Thanks Boss Man :happy2: )
Multi Function Buttons

I think thats everything for now!
I have finally got to give her a proper clean so she has some protection now until I can get the chance to give her a full correction. Obviously the car now feels very different but I'm still trying to get used to driving with the DSG fast. Not 100% happy with the APR map as yet but I'll reserve my judgement until I can give the APR guys a bit more time with the car!
Now some pics.......(not the best as the sun decided to hide the second I switched the camera on!!)

Looking really smart Nath :happy2: The gloos black mirrors make a big difference

:happy2: Mucho likey!!!!
Are the front & rear vinyl wrapped or painted?
Nath, any close ups of the climate control aluminium rings, how do they fit?
-
Already looks much better than when it was in Pompey. Lovin' the gloss trims.
Any plans for an upgraded HU?
Also, please do a lovely write up for the correction in the detailing section. Would love to see the apprentice at work.

Sorry pal, other than a few 50/50's on the gloss Black B Trims (that didn't come out well at all!) theres not much else to say. Only had time to run the DA over her with Dodo Lime Prime then a coat of Supernatural. Going to put a second coat of Diamond white maybe tomorrow!

Looking sick, Nath! How u liking the APR? I'm getting converted to APR tomorrow!

I'm not 100% with it at the minute as I'm not sure I have the correct map. Will hopefully get it sorted soon. But one thing for sure, it's fookin rapid!!

I know it's a bit like apples and oranges, but how do you feel it compares to the Black Beauty?

absolute class fella, a subtle touch suits the Pirelli :happy2:

I think it's a bit early to say matey. Plus theres nothing like speccing a car from new and being the first owner, so this will always feel a bit different.
Do like DSG/Milltek burp though!

Yeh I did a deal over the phone on that one, for them to then promptly sell it to a main dealer who now have it up for 17.5k! :stupid:

So a few more jobs done this week.........
Bought an OSIR dead pedal rest from the TT shop. Superb service from the guys there but to say I'm unimpressed by the item itself is a major understatement! Yes once fitted it look the business but as a some of parts it's a pile of $hit and must cost no more than a fiver to make!!
The plastic treads are not only brittle and cheap, but warped and 'attached' to the Aluminium with sellotape (which came straight off)!! :surprised:
Looks great in the snazzy packaging eh!

Have you done the boot badge black too or just the front?
Why are you having the wheels refurbed?

Thanks all! :drinking:
No Mandy the rear is still silver. Not sure a Black one would look right as it just looks like a nose in the middle of the tailgate in black!
@ Rich, haven't decided on the wheels but have a couple of idea's floating around. It won't be much different from the standard! And I have a set of Eibach Sportlines fitted.

I have to say it, please don't change the alloys. The stock items are really special IMO, and I hate it when people mess with them (that car in the classifieds springs to mind).

No real updates today just some shameless pic whoring! :pomppomp:

A frame set up that attaches a camera to a car. Allows you to take pics of your own car whilst driving it. It's what richwig used on his own vehicle in his sig.

It's only loudish when you want it to be. Pootling around town the only difference is the burbling at idle etc. I wouldn't class it as loud unless the loud pedal is pressed hard up into the upper part of the rev range!

How is the APR map running, have you had the initial problems sorted now. Be interested to know how you compare it to the revo software from the Eddie.
What LSP are you using?
-
In a word fella no........
Not sure why but I'm having problems getting it running as I want. It may well be the map is fine but I'm rather fussy!
LSP has been either Dodo Juice Supernatural or Diamond White. So far has had a few coats of both!

Choosing the right map is becoming a nightmare :signLOL:
Hope it gets sorted.

Zaino is nice-n-easy to apply (says he who knows feck all about detailing!)
Great stance with that subtle drop and I think silver is my favourite colour for a Pirelli. :happy2:

Where did you get the front badge from btw? I'm due a new one and the Eurowagens one has caught my eye...
This one....

Clips on to the original backing and is plastic, so no chipping like the painted ones do! :happy2:
Nathan, I got the same badge, but how do you take of the original silver badge? Do you just prise it from the backing? Presumably you're better off taking the whole thing off the car to do it?
-
I've looked at this also and from reading a few guides it seems easier to remove the full grill. (4 screws) then seperate the chrome badge from the backing and refit in reverse with the black badge. Rich did a guide on wrapping his with instructions on how to remove the chrome badge.

Yed pal once the badge is off it's just a matter of going round the edge prising it off. One of the middle clips may snap but its no buggy if it does. Then the black one just clips back on! :drinking:

Been a while so thought i'd update!
Finally my Pirelli will be wearing Pirelli boots again! :jump move:

How do you rate them Nath? My Cupra came with them as OEM but honestly cant remember if they were as good as the price (then) suggested

:popcornsoda:

i think pirelli have let the quality drop over the last few years as they go out of shape to easy on a different varient of cars--
-
As the sweetie monster has said they won't be on the car until I get the wheels done in the next few weeks!
Will report back then, but to be honest anything will be better than these crappy Goodyears!!

I think they are more of an 'eco' tyre than one designed to reign in 300+ bhp!!

Not many road tyres can contain 300bhp to the front wheels... :driver:

Probably best to try it out on mine!
-
So finally got round to getting the wheels refurbed and the new boots fitted! :jumpmove:
Decided on a 'Brilliant Silver' as I wanted to keep it looking as OEM as possible. As you can probably see from the pics the inner Barrell had been painted in a dark anthracite colour to hopefully give the design of the wheel more of a 3D look.
While the wheels were away I thought I'd clean the brakes and calipers up a bit until I can afford some S3 upgrades!

You mean the 12/1 oclock position of the wheel with its inside facing the camera? Looks slightly flattish or it may be just the light and angle playing tricks!

Hmmm, I see what you guys are saying. .I'll try and find out what wheel that one is and get it taken down my local wheel refurber's. A balancing machine should be able to tell me more (plus a professional eye. Cheers lads. :happy2:

Not driven the car that much still Jaz, but it's still looking fresh! :happy2: How's it looking on Indi's car?

Yeah fine when I asked her. Which reminds me - she didn't say much about the car because she was too flabbergasted. She wants me to pass on her thanks!

Am I right in thinking that you had the inserts of the wheels done darker and just left the face silver Nath?
If so was it done at A1?
Ive been thinking about getting my Ultra inserts done in Satin Black of Dark Grey. It will make the spokes stand out more and also look bigger.
I had a play with the original photo. What do you think of it ?
Do you think A1 would do this for me?

....Wow! Amazing what a difference it makes and would make your silver car look particularly sleek I think.
Best speak to Nigel at A1 and send him your pic. 01902 871422 :happy2:

I love that look, do you have any real up close shots to show off the finish?
-
That's a great looking car and some nice subtle mods. Top job.
My father also has a 3 door Pirelli in silver, totally stock though but only 12k miles from new.. not a bad car for a 76 yr old! He got that to replace the mk5 R32 he ran before (which came after a mk4 R32 etc..!). BTW his came from the factory with P Zero "Nero" rather than the "rosso" you've got on yours.
Very rare cars - I've only ever seen one other on the road since he bought his.
-
Stunning Greeners fair play to you. :notworthy:
What paint did you use for the hubs please?
-
New car's looking Great Nathan :happy2:

You're not the only one selling a Pirelli now - my old man emailed me yesterday to say he's put an order in for a new car to replace his Pirelli. He'll have a 62 plate Edition 35 in his garage some time mid-september. Lucky git!

I'd love to buy it, for its exclusivity and its immaculate condition. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
I'm sure it will sell to the first genuine buyer as soon as they see it mate.
