Title: Sports cat question - 100 cel or 200 cel
Post by: 56OctyVRS on February 10, 2012, 09:45:56 pm
Has anybody fitted a 100 sports cat and passed the MOT.  My car is going to BCS on Monday and I am wondering about swapping to the 100 cel race cat rather than a 200 cel cat.  I know if I get the cat really hot before the emissions test it should pass easily,as at my recent MOT the tester commented that some cars have passed with a de cat fitted.

I would assume that the Golf is the same, but I put a 100 cell CAT on my previous car, a scooby.  I heat wrapped the up pipe and heat wrapped the down pipe (where the CAT was) and passed the MOT with no problems at all.  This was the only CAT on the car, it should have 3.  I'm thinking if it worked on the scoob, it should work on a golf.

I have a 100 cell Cat on my 3" system and has passed 2 MOT's so far. They do say give the car a good hard drive before the MOT to clean out any soot that may be about. MOT coming up in a week or two so hopefully will be ok for that too! This route gives great power and yet is still MOT compliant so great for a daily driver.

second that...i had a STi with prodrive sport cat on instead of all 3 as stated above...nothing was wrapped and it flew through the test.  cant see a problem with a gti.

Are you sure that you were originally getting a 200cell?

I got my BCE TBE last month from Nige and Im sure they use the 100cell

This is the description of their system on the website…

"In addition to this fantastic system we incorporate a unique 76mm downpipe with stainless steel flanges and mandrel bent tube sections mated to a 100 cell genuine FIA approved Motor Sport Cat."

Your going stage 2+ (stage 3) which should have the cel mapped out. I had a blue flame 100 cel on my 1.8t Octavia, it always gave 0.29 co2 which used to worry me as the limit is 0.30 iirc.

BCS tomorrow. I still dont know which one to go for. I know the idea of a race cat sounds good but I may opt for the safe option and get a 200 cel. I cant imagine there being a massive difference in performance between the two.

I have decided I will decide on the way up there. Though knowing me and my petrol head I will opt for the 100 cel over the sensible choice

Went to BCS today and dropped the car off.  After speaking with Dave I opted for the 200 cel cat as it will easily flow upto about 370bhp with very minimal restriction, as its a motorsport cat.  My car will never see above 280bhp so the 200 cel is a fit and forget cat option and will pass the MOT easily. Even if I did K04 the car (divorce territory and Im not even married yet lol ) it will still easily flow the gases.  The 100 cel cats in Daves opinion are more for cars that are used on track days. The closest my car will get to a track is the car park  :rolleye:
Im having the downpipe heat wrapped too, so should keep the intake temps down abit.  Dave mentioned your car Mike and having the heat wrap done at the weekend.  Roll on friday
