Hi, Recently my car has felt a little sluggish although not underpowered to a point that im worried about something serious.
On my boost gauge i've noticed im making about a solid 10 (or just over) peak and then it will start to drop down to about 5 psi once in the higher rev range :sad1: Am I right in thinking I have a leak? Any advice one the best ways to check for leaks? what about using smoke? I've heard of people doing it and at work we have specially designed smoke pellets used to find leaks in plumbing and gas work could i not just hold it infront of the intake? I don't like the idea of doing it personally but if people have with success then I don't mind giving it a go.
Many thanks, I will try and get a video today and upload it so people can actually see what and how much it drops by. It feels like the higher I am in the rev range the quicker the boost drops, most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd gear.
Cheers :drinking:

Unplug the maf sensor, drive the car, if all feels ok you got a leak. Dont forget to plug it back in.

Worth reading this just to see if any info in it is any help to you: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,493.0.html
If it is any help and you're on Facebook - Please click my music page a 'Like' (as link in my signature below) - Thanks!

This is a really short and quickly put together video with my phone so sorry for sound quakity and cellotape rustling thats all i had to hand. you can see how the boost drops off as i get to the higher end of rev counter but coudnt take it to the top.
It might be me being silly but it just doesnt feel right.. Are there any main areas to check for leaks? ill try removing the maf tomuro if i get a chance at linch. do i just let it dangle or what? iv heard they are quite fragile.
thanks in advance!
Stock ecu at the moment.

Think he means just unplug it. Mine does the same but I havent really had chance to go for a good drive and check it out. Will keep an eye on this thread.

I don't ever recall my boost gauge showing such a sudden and fast drop off. Can you get someone to do some logs?
-
Impossible to deduce anything from that video, the pulls are not long enough. If you do a 2000rpm-redline pull in 3rd what PSI does it make?
-
You dont need to remove the whole sensor. Just unplug the connector from the sensor and tape it to something out of the way. Take it for a drive. If all feels ok you got a leak, if not its something else and could do with some running some logs
-
Thats probably me taking my foot of the pedal i think, erm no no one i know well enough has vag com or other. klstar does so i might pm him and ask politly and offer a beer token. do you know whether a.boost leak or issue would show up on a scan? If the weather holds up tomurrow ill try and get it on the ramps to check the dv.
Im driving up to bristol friday night so ill try and get some more footage if need be

Proper VCDS logging is really your only most reliable way to find out what's going on.

it will drop to and just below 5psi i try and get some.more footage but roads were a little limiting and wet so will have to take some more footage on the motorway come friday. ill let you know tomuro morning what psi i make and what it drops to.

ill try that tomuro morning then and let you know if theres a difference betwwen how it feels etc.
-
Are you GTI or ED30? Remapped?
-
Gti no map yet
-
You need to find out what PSI the standard GTI ko3 should be holding at high RPM, that way you can see instantly if you have a boost leak
-
Started googling but limited to phone at the moment. does anyone know any links or best to get them? would i be best of finding out from the horses mouth and dropping into a steakers tomuro and ask the technician for the info?
-
They wont know.... best to ask on here, maybe start another thread "boost pressures on stock GTI"
-
Hmm will do no me thinks. apparently tge quickest way to tell is if you have a stock gti the vaccum should show 20 or very close to 20. Mine do es so perhaps the dv is gone ill check tomuro. i also dod the pcv test and thats sweet.
Cheers
:happy2:

What's pcv test?
Here a link to a chap with similar prob

Thanks ill read the thread in a min! Let the car idle and pull the dipstick out and the engine should run rough or chockey. if it continues to run smooth then you need a new one. theres quite a few threads on it and other tests and effectd symptoms etc

I got this on my scan today, anyone want to shed some light? should I just clear all the faults and hope for the best or does something actually need replacing?
