Title: strut removal
Post by: mkviken on February 14, 2012, 10:26:14 am
I'm going to be getting a B12 kit shortly and will be fitting myself.

If anyone has swapped they own front suspension could you tell me if you had to pull the hub off or not to get the strut out?

I've seen a how to guide which said you have to remove the bottom ball joint and pull the hub out but I've also seen one which says you can do it just by removing the ball joint and pulling the control arm down out of the way.

can anyone confirm if the hub/drive shaft needs pulling or not

cheers

IMHO you are better to remove the strut assy completely so yes remove the hub bolt and push out the drive shaft splines.

Also either buy or.make.a hub splitter to open it up to help slide out the strut....makes life sooo much easier as you need all.the spare hands possible.
