Iv finally got my hands on a GTI, i was meant to get one last year but stupidly bought an RX8 instead, worst decision ever, never seen a car so expensive to run!
Had the car 2 weeks and already sliding down then slipery slope of mods!
First up was red gti badges which i bought before i even got the car, shortly followed by red GTI mats, milltek non res ed30 catback, sounds amazing! While i was having that fitted i got AMD to put a map on, was well impressed with the results!
Also got my personalised pressed plates put on to hide how old it is :)
Anyway here it is

Up next the car is booked in on the 27th to have the front and rear bumpers smoothed, side skirts painted and the roof re painted as the laquer has seen better days, was fairly annoyed about this as i didnt notice it when i bought it :(
-
you need to fit an arial antenne/whip to hide it's age, it's and 04/05 car
-
Love that RX8!
-
good spot! Yeah its an 05 plate
Thanks, i did love the RX8, sound is so different to any other car and reving past 9k is insane and possibly the best handling car iv ever driven after the coilovers were fitted, Just fuel consumption was actually ridiculous!
-
looks good mate
-
iv decided to go down the smooth/flushed look, i know its not highly original but i think it just suits the mk5 so much!
To do this iv copied the bmw M-sport bumper, so im painting the centre part of the bumper grey like below
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz300%2Fwebby16v%2FimagesCASMG0DT.jpg&hash=08ea5833ce545588195dde838f37f84fe9c11e02)
Then the rest of it is being fully smoothed like this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz300%2Fwebby16v%2F003-1.png&hash=0f53211ddccc5d250f0e130f10a19a6c3e196d47)
to carry to look on the side skirts are always being painted, and the front bumper is being fully smoothed also so the bump strips are being taken out along with the lower plastic splitter being smoothed in. Continuing the black and grey look the middle part of the grill is being done grey along with the lower blade and badge!
The gti is in my local bodyshop Spectraflare Sprayworks, hopes be back this weekend, i cant wait!
Below the car went in i tidied up my engine bay and made these stainless brackets for the hid balasts
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fz300%2Fwebby16v%2F007-1.jpg&hash=4011517d9d65a1b83b890a664165da7ce363775a)

I pick the car up on sunday so will take better pictures then, let us know what you think :)
-
Nice, I've been wanting to do that to my front bumper for ages! :happy2:
-
Im after some split rim wheels and need some inspiration for some as everyone seems to have bbs rs wheels
Anyone got any ideas?
-
Nice looking car :happy2:
-
Tts fantastic mate that's the route i was going before my car got crashed Into. Although the price for smoothing was dear I got quoted just for the front 450 that wasn't plastic welding. But the work is spot on there. Is yours fibreglass or Plastic weld to smooth.
-
not 100% sure what technique the bodyshop used but seems spot on to me :)
-
Found a set of wheels too cheap to say no too so thought why not and bought them! this meant i had to buy coilovers aswell to pull the look off but hopefully all the expense and going skint was worth it :)
Porsche 997 turbo reps 19x8.5 with 215/35/19 tyres et45 plus 15mm adapters all round and fk coilovers about half way down

Hi mate, very nice car! Wheels and the smoothed bumpers look awesome! Did you get those badges off ebay? £10 for front and rear? Thanks mate
-
I like the smooth look you have done and great choice of wheels :happy2:
-
wow that rear bumper looks amazing! i was going to go down the normal r32 bumper route but this looks so nice. was it quite an expensive thing to have done?
-
Love it mate exactly how I wanted mine to look shame I can't afford the cost to smooth too much other work needs doing as I am now fighting the insurance company my car still hasn't been repaired.
-
wow that rear bumper looks amazing! i was going to go down the normal r32 bumper route but this looks so nice. was it quite an expensive thing to have done?
wasnt too expensive realy, i had quite alot of work done all in one go so got a discounted price
had the roof repainted and both rear quarters due to the laquer peeling, front and rear bumpers smoothed, side skirts painted, all the grey bits done and my grill
think it worked out to like just over 1k for it all to be done
-
That's a good price I got quoted 450 just for front bumper, will see we're your spray place is. Is the colour match spot on quality good aswell?
I need rear bumper and both quarter panels spraying also drivers door skin replacing
-
You couldn't find out how they smoothed it if you ever pop in again

Yeah £450 does sound quite expensive to be honest!
Yeah colour match is spot on, all the work actually works perfect!
Next time im there i will find out for you
-
I think the 997's work on that well, black 3door with some bling that isn't OTT :happy2:
Some smart touches so far fella.
Do you go to the majority of the Dub shows?

to be honest i havent been to any dub shows in it yet :ashamed:
iv only had it 3 month so hoping to go to a few this year and get some inspiration :)
-
Today i was bored and thought i would do something productive with my time so i dewipered the rear and took the front and rear GTI badges off to give a cleaner look!
Taking the rear wiper off was quite a nerve racking experience as it took quite alot of force to pull off and i was scared about cracking the rear screen!
Anyway here are some pics :)
Please ignore the tractor ride height, the coilovers are knocking quite bad so i raised it up to see if that helped which it didnt, not quite sure what the cause is now :s

Bayou checked your top mounts and bushes,
Yeah turned out to be a loose antiroll bar link, could of sworn i checked these before i took it to a garage but o well, jus glad its all sorted :)
-
was gonna say that'll be your anti-role bar links. they went on mine and made a horrific noise and i thought it had sumat to do with my suspension, turned out not to be :) nice motor mate, loving the smoothed bumpers but i think the GTI badges should have stayed on, imo.
great work tho mate :) :happy2:
-
yeah i wasnt sure about taking the badges off but it was more of an impulse decision as i was bored lol
-
had -3 degress of negative camber put on today and gave rolling the arches ago myself too, they didnt come out perfect but happy with them considereing i was rushing to finish them before football, will have a fiddle tomorow so see if i can finish them off.
This allowed me to go 20mm lower all round creating a pretty good setup now without major rubbing :)

I used an arch roller that my mate had, i just borrowed it for the day and gave it a bash, watched a few video`s on how to do it and took my time!
Saved myself £120 to pay someone else to do it for me, winner! :)
Im actually shocked the wheels dont rub and they poke all round!
-
has anyone had experience of having a car wrapped?
Im thinkin of having a white one done?
-
My mate wraps cars, his navara was wrapped in Santa cruz the skate brand all over it for a demo vehicle for them, now it's plain satin metallic grey.
The only issue he finds with it is when removing the wrap you have to be so carefull as the thinner areas of paint he says your roof etc it can lift. It peeled some of the laquore on his and on the truck bay top.

Webby are you from Wokingham? I recognise that plate? Black fiesta before your Rex? Nice gti btw I miss mine like mad :sad1:

which gti you looking for?
-
Someone on SCN bought it off eBay about 6 months ago needing some tlc. Had green wheels iirc.
I've got a steel grey 07 plate coming in p/x at work. It's a standard one but has low miles and will be cheap.
How's your clutch doing with the stage 1 map? Any in car videos? Curious to see what they go like.
I sold my stage 2 ko3s Ibiza bought a few diesels and currently own a ep3 type r which is for sale!

i havent got any video`s unfortunately, map is defo worth doing tho, makes a big difference! had the map on for about 3.5k miles and the clutch is fine, hasnt slipped in the slightest, going for a stage 2 soon so will see how it lasts then :s
i would advise getting a map pretty soon after buying it as i was a lil dissapointed with the standard performance
-
Saw your car up at Beaconsfield services on Friday night. Looked very nice. I Loved the alloys :happy2:

then Sat night the car got a full detail by a mate.

Did they plastic weld your rear bumper mate do you know? and what bumper was it too start with? front end looks mint smoothed too!
Personally I think the porsche wheels ruin it (for me anyway) each to their own and all that jazz tho :)

yeah i was never 100% on them either, just bought them as they were going silly cheap and i hated the standard 17in monza`s that were all curbed!
i think the bbs ch wheels look so much better!
it is standard gti bumpers front n rear that have been plastic welded and filled over. was quite impressed they managed to get rid of the step on the rear
-

I am not surprised they rub.
Looks great though. :happy2:
-
Looks bladdy good on those BBS Webby :happy2:
I'm hoping to avoid rubbing on the same width and offset wheels (not CH's though) when I put them on the A3. I'm quite low now on AP Coilovers and I get away with it on all the areas where my MK5 GTI grabbed or scraped.

Car looks lovely, I had prada 2's on my last car they were ok in the dry but rubbish in the wet.
