Title: Can I drive the car if I fit cruise control but don't code it in?
Post by: Dw1 on February 18, 2012, 10:39:49 am
There might be a time lag between me fitting it and coding it in. Is the car safe to drive i.e. does it do everything it used to do but the cruise won't work until coded in?

Or do I need to code it in at the same time?

I would have thought it would be save to drive seeing folk normally turn off stuff using vcds as part of their tweaking.

Yeh you'll be fine, it will just function as a stalk as normal.

Inicidentally, when I didn't have the car long and had a faulty engine ECU, the dealer never recoded cruise with the new ECU so it didn't work although the stalk was installed.

Hi

You can fit, and drive the car.

It will log a fault which can be cleared when you get it coded.

The only issue you might have is if the steering angle sensor loses basic settings, with no vag com to start basic settings

What would cause it to lose settings and how would I know it has? Is it unsafe if it loses the angle settings?

You would get the yellow steering light illuminated in the instrument cluster.

I have the stalk fitted but not the wire so the cruise doesn't work. Never had any problems, just the fault code on the VCD.
