Save your money IMHO.  Seen a couple of similar and they weren't great.

It did seem but too cheap to be true..
Might give pioneer another look http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-pioneer-avic-f9210bt_p-26434.htm or just look out for a RNS510 as I haven't seen any other aftermarket alternatives jump out at me.

It's deffo not a VW piece of kit, I'm currently running an alpine w202r and it's ace wouldn't go with a VW unit personally not powerful enough for my taste  :happy2:  !! But caraudiosecurity are doing a brand new W205r for 299!!! Bargain check it out :)

The W205R does look an impressive unit, it's missing the nav element which would put me off.

I have my eye on a couple on EBay so will see how those pan out. I had Audi nav in my S4 & do prefer an in built unit over a TomTom etc or using my iPhone as I am at the moment.

I have the Zenec NC2010, which ticks most boxes, but admittedly it seems to get more expensive the longer it's been out.

I paid £100 less for an RNS510 version F including shipping from Lithuania. Its faultless really. Ive had 3x now, and cant recommend them enough.

Deako meant he got his for £600. You are not going to find a new RNS for under £500 and een used ones go for £200-400.

I have found a rns510, its version C. Am I likely to suffer the battery drain issues, its going into an 06 GTI?

Probably. You need to know your canbus version.

Ive started thinking of upgrading to something like the Vw Nav / hdd unit but the Golf R Nav took a bizzarre route compared to the Tom Tom the other night?

Can I check this physically or do I need to find someone with VCDS?

Is there a rule of thumb, e.g you need canbus version x with RNS510 version C etc?

My local garage have kit to read error codes so I will give them a call tomorrow to see if they can find out what version I have.
