Advice needed guys,
Just got hold of a GTI 312mm set up to stick on the TDI. I want to give the calipers a refresh while they are off the car. Whats the best paint to use? I see caliper paint in Halfrauds but I also read about using hammerite. Anyone have any advice?

Im currently doing the same but with r32 brakes.
Ive cleaned them with water and g101 to remove the dirt/grease. Im just going to sand them back to take most of the top coat off and make them smooth by working my way through different sand papers. Preperation is the key to a good finish making sure there clean and free from dirt. Tape up anything that you dont want to spray. Apply primer and then top coat, wet sand, top coat again. Make sure it is high temp. Im using a spray can. But i have read people have used hammerite.
This is what i plan to do, Im not expert but im sure someone will be able to add a few things to help :happy2:

I wire brushed the calipers on swmbo's GT, then degreased. I then painted them in 'Blackfriars' smooth black gloss, it's the same as Hammerite but a bit cheaper, got it from B&Q. When I got a GTi set up I just painted the carriers so I could upgrade the fronts, same process, same paint. All still looking good. :happy2:

They do pink in Halfrauds...... :P

If you buy the caliper paint its a high temp enamel. and will dry with a fairly smooth finish....
I got the blue paint on one from halfrauds that worked ok for me. Spray with brake dust cleaner then slight sand over the top and paint

Hi Build primer helps to smooth out cast iron calipers surface texture, giving you a smoother finish when applying the top coat.
I have always just used tins of primer, base, and lacquer and have never had any discolouration or other nasties.....and I drive like lunatic at times so the heat would have been fair game for the paint.
