Title: GTi Driveshaft Question
Post by: flyboy1976 on March 07, 2012, 06:41:41 pm
Hi all,

Can someone tell me if the driveshafts are pop off type or sprung loaded on a mk5?

Thanks in advance

What exactly do you mean? They're bolted on at both the gearbox and hubs...

Yes and those hubs need to be removed out of the diff otherwise the box can't be split for a diff replacement....they will be either  the sprung type or just pop in/out....with a bit of force!  :signLOL:

I've split plenty of these and still don't really know what your on about lol.
So your actually talking about the driveshaft flanges? These need to be removed to open the box, the part the shaft bolts to on the box? 6mm allen bolt in the centre then spring loaded iirc.

Basically I was asking how the driveshaft flanges are removed once the shafts have been disconnected from the flanges, they either pop out, or from memory (on a Mk2 Golf GTi i swapped a box on years ago) they were spring loaded and a PITA to remove.
