Title: my new ed30. (pic heavy - comments welcome)
Post by: Adamtattooed30 on March 14, 2012, 08:21:36 pm
hi guys, i got this last Wednesday, but have only just had chance to give it a good clean and polish.

Me and my friend (who has a polo GTI) spent all day cleaning the cars, i washed it and then clayed the entire car and it looks really good. then waxed it too. It took a long time but it was worth it. I also had the passenger side headlight replaced and changed the inner rear lights for tinted ones as somebody pointed out they weren't tinted.

hope you like the pictures.

I hope to get it lowered either on H and R springs or coils, new wheels and a milltek before bugjam this year :) i shall keep you posted if any of this happens :)

Nice car there. Mind you, I'm biased, also the new owner of a 3dr Tornado red ED30. Am having Eibach Sportline springs put on in a couple of weeks although I could not decide between those or the H & R ones. Chuck a WALK kit on and a map and you will LOVE it, enjoy.  :drinking:

Cheers guys, it is indeed the cow and cape we both live a few miles away so it's good for a few photos. I would like to put mine on springs I am thinking h and r as they apparently drop a little lower. And I think then a milltek and (even though I love the standard wheels) maybe some new rims maybe lm's or maybe some 3sdms. Cheers for the comments

They looked like the MK2 GTI "Campaign" wheels until I rememberd they were only 14" so guess they must be Porsche 928?

Cheers guys thanks for all the comments. I have some new shiny bits I need to fit this week so will hopefully get is spotless and get some nice shots. Osir engine cover, Carbonia air intake, carbon mirror covers (as a temp measure until I can grow enough balls to spend £340 on full replacements haha)

I am thinking of keeping these wheels for winter as they have pirelli winter tyres on them and then get some 3sdm 0.05s for summer. I would never get rid of these wheels, although I did recently and foolishly curb them so maybe a refurb in satin black may be in order.

Would anybody know anyone who is selling or has a spare engine cover? Mine is cracked ( I didn't crack it) I went to vw they don't sell it in pieces just as a full set up at like 200 and I don't need it all.

When and where is gti international? I am sure me and my mate could make it!!

Beers and BBQ and VW's. What's not to love?

Hi Adam, How bad is the curbing? I have a mint set powder coated in Satin Black that I was going to sell or I did contemplate refurbing back to silver. Could be interested in a swap???
Also, I think the satin black looks a thousand times better on a red car rather silver  :ashamed:

yesterday my car was parked outside work, the one time i leave it outside work rather than in the carpark at the back. this happened.

i am really annoyed. does anybody know any body shops which do good work and aren't too expensive. i have a few little blemishes on the bumper bar this so i think i will just get the full bumper re painted.

Sorry can no longer recommend the bodyshop in Horsforth as they have just done two shocking bits of work on a friends car and are being funny about rectifying it.

Collected the Leon from 'Silverstar' and again the work is spot on, lunar grey spot on colour match!  :happy2:

Hi Ben, was thinking we should get some people from over here and go for a drive, and get some good shots. There is a sweet drive which starts by goig up curly hill in ilkley and it's about 100 miles round trip, but need to find the route :)

Few Quick iPhone snaps after I my wheels back on. I am super happy with it now. It's got it's springs on and it's milltek on (although it needs adjusting) and my wheels and centre caps. Few more bits here and there and I'm done spending for a few months haha. I hope you like it, I realise some people will and some will hate it but I think it looks sweet (in the long windows when you drive part) ha

In 100% honesty the wheels have a few minor dust marks on them but now they are on you don't see it at all.

Let me know what you think, ill get some better res ones in the next week or so :)

Nailing the red centre caps there Adam  :pomppomp: Like it.

This is a small idea I have for whatever I've got next.
Gold Pescaras is also ace, I remember another forum member with them in gold on a black ED30 and it worked a treat there too.

Some rear spacers would make the rear stance slightly naughtier too, but just a thought. I did the same till I ran 8J wheels with a more stance friendly offset. I'm not even close to properly low either - just something I found that you may prefer too  :happy2:

I must admits the te centre caps were the cherry on top for me. They do look spot on. What size spacers did you use? 20mm?

That looks great!! I think the pescaras have a lovelly colour to them so would never think of changing.... but that looks really good and goes with the colour of the car well.

Not a white car black wheels thing which everyone now seems to be doing. So credit for being original... and will no doubt help me spot you whenever I venture out to Ilkley (im in north leeds)

No just 12mm IIRC mate, might even have been 10mm with my Audi splits which were 7.5J. Improved the look loads, especially if you're a stance hunter and want a prouder rear profile.

About 3/4 way down: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,15910.30.html

They were made by BIMMEC I think and were only 10mm if I recall, 10-15mm would work a treat in most cases with 7.5J OEM wheels.

Thanks Pete. Unfortunately some arse on his phone drove into me so my money is now taken up by fixing the front end. The most annoying thing is that the entire front had been painted less than a week before. Now the light is slightly pushed back and the bumper is pushed out. Bad times.!!

Hi Ben, was thinking we should get some people from over here and go for a drive, and get some good shots. There is a sweet drive which starts by goig up curly hill in ilkley and it's about 100 miles round trip, but need to find the route :)

Alrite buddy,

Loving the ED30, wish I could get insurance on one!
Saw the first picture at the Cow & Calf, from Skipton and work in Otley so i'm another local near you guys, i've seen your mates Polo knocking around as well  :happy2:

Liking it!

Its funny you reply, I saw you the other day driving into Ilkley, just after the bottom of the Addingham bypass! Just PM me whenever, although my 1.9 Tdi will NOT keep up!

The front of your car looked fine when I saw it, not a mark? Although you did have the rims on, and they looked sweet! Not going to Bug Jam i'm afraid, we'll look into something soon though  :happy2:

few pics of my car over the past few months as i havent updated this in a while, not much has changed, hopefully in the coming months i want to get all the paint sorted out once and for all as some i am not happy with and some funny little youths took my edy badge from the back and took the paint with it.

hopefully to come will be coils, osir mirrors and foot plate, 3sdms (or something else with concave, if you have any ideas please tell me haha), some nice shiny bits under the bonnet and maybe a bonnet bra, maybe haha!

Thanks for the comments guys, people love or hate the wheels. They were powdercoated at cas coatings in Bradford, if I am 100% honest thee are a few imperfections in them but for the price they look amazing and you can't see any of the marks when they are on the car.

Hoping to get it on some coils and have a few bits of paint done soon. and my carbon front should be here by the end of the month

If any1 knows a really good body shop in Leeds/ Bradford area I would ally appreciate it. Had a few bits done by the ones I know and I am not 100% happy with them.

Cheers again guys

Hey Adam
Your car is looking great man, sitting well on the H&R's  :happy2:  How's the drive on those springs compared  :driver:  to origanals...

As for your wheel colour a red car gets away with it, keep up the good work   You take a good photo too, i need some more practise ...

Would you recommend the carbon air intake? Looking at replacing my slightly broken OEM intake!

....The carbon intake scoops in air slightly more efficiently without all the convolutions of the OEM one, but performance gains are insignificant: Slightly improved throttle response and negligable torque increase - Nothing which grabs you!

However, they do look one heck of a lot better than OEM in my opinion. I used to have a Carbonio one for a long time.

Agreed I bought mine for the aesthetics, it look really nice under the bonnet and I would agree with the throats response, mildly better, the beauity with the Carbonia ones is the heat reflective layer in the carbon, it keeps air intake temps down.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, not sure I agree about the photography haha. Once it's been in the body shop I will have new pics then hopefully I can save for bags, and osir mirrors! If any1 knows some1 selling these please let me know, I have carbon covers ATM and they are not to the standard I want.

 :congrats:

In answer to the h&r spring question, the standard ones are apauling in my opinion, my old Astra h handled much better than the gold factory. but the springs have improved it ALOT! I have faith round the bends, the only issue is I wish it was a bit lower, but the ride quality is as good if not better than factory.

....Out of curiosity and interest, on what grounds did the council refuse your claim? That pothole looks pretty deep and vertical on one side.

About your number plate: Are you not concerned about how it blocks air in through the open grill?

They said as no one had reported it before I reported it and claimed against it it's not there concern.

And yep I am but it seems ok, it has been like that for a while. I have some suckers for it but I don't get round to swapping them :)

....That's both an outrageous and pathetic excuse!

It doesn't even make sense. The implication is that whoever was the first to report it and want to claim, was told that they couldn't because they were the first!  :stupid:

You've now moved on of course but if it was me, I would be going to Citizens Advice Bureau with the photographic evidence and bills proving the cost. I would also be contacting the local press.

Itsmegav it's normally extremely clean. They are heko wind deflectors, i wasnt keen at first but i like em now. Ha thanks for the comments. I have had yet more had news, I had more bad luck. I had the cam belt and service done at awesome gti. I have bought loads from them so I presumed the work would be good. Ran it out of fuel on the bypass, I admit it was low but they could have just asked me to go grab some more fuel.

They did the work but a day later my engine warning light came on, this obviously worried me. I got a diagnostic on the car and I have 4 fault codes. P0441 (evap incorrect flow) P0100 (maf incorrect flow) P1250 (fuel level too low) P310b (fuel pressure low)

I have rung them but they seem to think the work has not caused it. Mildly irritating. I don't know what to do now and who to take it too as awesome is 50 miles away from me.

Also some young lad smashed into the back of me in traffic, it's going in for those repairs tomorrow. The car is cursed!

Using Clickontyres? Just had some tyres changed there and thet seem to take good car of alloys. They inspected each wheel with me prior to changing the tyres and i have benefited from the £50 michelin voucher offer, happy days. What did you think of them?

I would approach the council again, for the sake of a letter. Call in at VW crosshills, explain what has happened and get them to give you an invoice cost for a replacement alloy, then send that in with a follow up letter. Have you 'Legal services' on your insurance, as i would consider using them, as they will assist you in structuring a letter and advice of what further action you can take. I did in the past and surprsing the council paid out for an alloy destroyed near Shell in Keighley.

I am thinking about putting my car back to standard, I wondered if anybody would be interested with a swap plus a bit of dish my way. I have a smooth carbon front with badge, a osir engine cover in carbon. And I may need to swap my Carbonia intake but not sure.

Pm me if your interested.
