Title: Jonny's Golf GTI
Post by: Jonny on March 25, 2012, 12:58:13 am
Thought I'd transfer the stuff from the welcome thread over to here as hopefully I'll be having mods done ;) I've had the car since the end of January and I'm loving it especially as I came from a 05 plate polo :P

Already had the rear valance sprayed in the first week after i got it and changed the sidelights and dipped lamps, just saving up some more money to spray the side skirts and front spoiler, I'm only 22 so hard to get a lot of cash haha

Also fitted some Ed30 rear lights today thanks to Andrew aka ni-coilovers.co.uk, definitely look 100% better, can't believe standard GTI are so crappy :D

I'd like to get some bi-xenon headlights but they are waay out of my price range for now especially after I'll have to get washers n all, so I think I'll go for the hella "look-a-like" xenons.

Pics below :)

Mod list as of December 2013

Colour coded GTI rear valance - Replaced with R32 Rear
30 Edition rear lights
Hella Xenon look
RCD-510
GTI Mats
30 Edition gear knob

Silver ashtray
Euro cup holder
LED interior lighting
Fogs converted to DRL's
Revo Stage 1 Remap Revo Stage 2 Remap
Revo stickers on doors

30 Edition front splitter
Chrome interior switches
Revision D Diverter Valve
New centre caps
BCS turbo-back exhaust system
Wolfsburg plate surround
Colour coded side skirts
Carbon wrapped front grill, pillars, mirrors, radio surround

Cheers monte :D

Just ordered some Hella Xenon "Look" headlights for £280 new which looking on ebay seems a good price :D They're going to be dispatched next Wednesday sooo I'm hoping they will be there for the week after :jumping:

That's means as long as they arrive unmarked, I'll have a set of GTI headlights and rear lights up for sale, so give me a pm if you're interested ;)

Can't wait to get these fitted on the weekend, just hope the weather is ok, ordered new bulbs last week as well so it should look

Great looking Reflex Silver example! Definitely better now with rear valence and ED30 lights added. Not realised how red the original GTi rear lights are! £280 for headlights is a great price! Get some pictures uploaded once fitted, interested in getting a set myself!  :happy2:

Cheers KC, yeah the ED30 rear lights make a huge difference :D

Finished work early and the weather was great so it was my opportunity to get these headlights on.... All went smoothly apart from refitting the bloody bumper, arms are ripped to shreds lol but the end result is worth it

Just need to go to my mates garage to get these baby's aligned  :fighting:

Fantastic stuff  :happy2: Now get some pictures of the lights on at night!

Are the lights just plug and play? or do any of the cables need modifying etc?

I'll get some pics later tonight ;)

The lights are plug and play, all I had to do is change the bulbs in them to the new ones i bought which takes all of 2 minutes, definitely worth buying :D

Quick update, nothing visual yet... Just bought a new Rcd-510 which will be a definite improvement over the bog standard rcd-300 :P Sooo I have to buy the adaptor and I'm crossing my fingers I won't have an issue with the battery drain. Do you guys know if I can only tell by using vag-com or is the a visual sign on the gateway?

Cheers

Well i finished work and I managed to fit the ED30 gear knob, and I also had a parcel at the delivery office which was my mk6 hand brake, so I've quickly switched them, but its now decided to rain again which means that it for the moment :P

All coming together now, can't wait to get the seats in :D Excuse the mess, the inside hasn't been cleaned in a few weeks  :scared:

Well its been a while since I updated, haven't really done anything except fit the kufatec loom for the heated seats which was a pain in the arse, but I got the modding bug this week as I got paid and couldn't decide between a vortex splitter or a highline display :P So I bit the bullet and bought a highline display :D Just need to get it fitted & coded once it arrives :jumping: which isn't going to be easy considering I live in cumbria  :rolleye: So my next question is it worth getting a highline convenience control module?

good move.. Id worry the splitter would take it in the wrong direction.

oh and BTW... good things come to those who wait :) .... I picked up a low low mileage set of ed30 seats for a steal last weekend :)

Woke up early waiting for the mail to come like a little boy at christmas   The new clocks from Kalu arrived 20 minutes ago so got them fitted straight away, and even better no errors on the dash :D A highline display really does improve the look, why didn't GTI's come with them as standard??  :fighting:

Well I just need to get the convenience module fitted which I'll get done soon with the help of justsean, fingers crossed  :jumpmove:

A huuuge thanks to Kalu for swapping the mileage over, a complete legend  :drinking: :drinking:

Thanks scopes, loving your carbon bonnet!

Dead easy actually, take your battery off, lower your steering wheel, pull the plastic rim at the bottom of the dash to gain access to the 2star screws, unscrew them and take out the dash, it's abit fiddly getting around the wheel but all in all it takes 5 minutes :) Obvisouly there's the mileage issue to sort out but Kalu is your man for that :D

This car is fantastic mate! I have the same colour but it's completely standard at the moment. Will be using your build thread as inspiration I think!

I love the rear bumper! Did you just spray the black one? Take it any bodyshop will do that for me? Any idea how much?

Oh also can you get that gearknob of ebay? It reminds me of my old mk2gti golf ball one, would love that.

Thanks,

Dan

I got the bodyshop to smooth as it's textured.... and spray the gti bumper for £120 which isn't a bad price.  As long as they're a trust worthy bodyshop you'll be fine.

The gearknob is out of a 30 edition so just keep your eyes peeled on ebay ;)

On other news I'm getting the ccm fitted and coded tomorrow so fingers crossed I'll have the convenience menu :)

Xmas list is looking like a revo map if I can scrape enough money together. Problem is my tax, mot and service is all due in December :(

Same here all my car stuff goes out in December!

I know a the receptionist at the bodyshop and she said £110-150 usually so that's cool. Are you getting the sides done also? I'm not sure about that, quite like the black on my side skirts, but then it wont match with the bumper if I didn't do them I guess?

Wouldn't mind a revo map either, see its +35-60 bhp gain, surprised me that! Bet that would put insurance up a bit though...

I'll be getting the sides done next year, but not the front as I'll eventually get a vortex spoiler, no rush for them yet :)

I'm guessing the insurance won't be too bad, there's plenty of good insurance companies on here.

On other news the highline ccm is fitted and I've now got all the extra features, just have to get the rain closing working as I haven't coded it all  :rolleye: I'm also looking at activating emergency flash breaking and a few other things, just have to wait and see :)

Also fitted a silver ashtray, just waiting for the bloody euro cup holder to arrive..... 8 days now....

The GTI had a service last week and whilst it was in there I got them to enable the fogs as DRL's at 60% output, might need turning down a bit more, not too sure. I know some people don't like it, but I do :P I ordered some 9006 LED's so then it makes it look more DRLish  :rolleye: Arrived today and here's the outcome :D Not as efficient as Red Robins, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper :D Fingers crossed I don't start the old war on DRL's :P

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fl62%2F01burrowsj%2FIMAG0080_zpse46f9295.jpg&hash=8e225d5b133704b799ab689dc8c9e337154d5892)

Just picked up a R32 BCS exhaust on here last week, it was a steal at £300 - only done 3000 miles

I know it was Iain's old exhaust, I looked about buying it but it didn't have a downpipe so didn't bother with it.

Next mod on the list is probably going to be colour coded sideskirts, but don't know if spending on £150 is worth it?

Well I haven't got the side skirts colour coded yet, probably going to be next month  :happy2:

However when I was browsing the site a couple weeks back, I noticed someone painted their calipers green which I thought looked pretty good, so today I got on with the task :)

Been a while since I changed anything... Bought 3 metres of carbon wrap wanted to try my hand at it... Only wrapped the centre console for now, surprisingly it was the lower half which seemed hardest to do... Might redo the bottom half as there's bits im not 100% happy about

Well it has come that time to get rid of the Mk5 gti, best car I have had, but the good thing is it is going to a good home, dad prefers this over his mk6.

So just ordered a new 7R,

Tornado Red
3 door,
Manual,
Dynamic chassis control,
Rear view camera,
Leather + heated seats

Wasn't too fussed on any other options

16-20 week wait though!! :(

Cannot wait
