Hey Guy's n Gal's
I need some help on deciding, to colour code or not, it's a reflex silver GTI.
Do i stay with the original GTI look or colour code.
Someone did make a comment 1 day sayin: it's good to see an original GTI
I cant make my mind up! :jumping:
Either way i think they both look great, i would appreciate any suggestions to help me decide.
Thanks
Scopes :innocent:

Colour code 100% , I wanted to on my GTI but didn't get around to doing it , Leave the diffuser part in the rear bumper black was my plan . I have a ED30 now and it looks the dogs painted compared to stock GTIs
-
i'd love to do it on mine for sure, but i know i'll never get round to it :(
-
has to be done :happy2:
-
colour code, but i'd do the middle bit of the rear valance in black
-
Well colour coding looks good but I personally think the contrast of the black rear bumper and the skirts look Great :happy2:
When the car is lowered the black bumper looks sweet! especially on a Reflex Silver or Candy White GTI

Yes i have to agree, when you see the pictures that were added.
The car being lower than a snakes dangleys does help, i would have to upgrade to a set of coiles!
:driver:
The stance then it is hard to beat & its stayin original
but then the colour coded reflex silver is real nice too, if anybody had any before & after pics to compare...
-

..........x2. :happy2:
-
colour code it mate
i just think the car looks a lot more higher spec when the colour coded bumps. ed 30s look well finished with the coded bumps
-
I like the old school look, almost wish I hadn't painted mine. Then I see my car and think

how much did you paint for your colour coding?
Im quite tempted to do my rear and skirts black and eventually get a vortex splitter (or the seat splitter from the fr) and have that painted white with calipers to match but then I can't think whether it would look good or not.. decisions decisions :sad1:
-
It was around £700 for the front bumper, shirts and rear bumper. He fitted everything and lined it all up (my xparts front bumper needed a little playing around with to get it perfect). Also they smoothed them all too as I didn't want the texture finish. This included a few parts to fit the skirts as well.
Don't forget I had to get the whole front bumper done. It was £75 to get my spoiler painted and fitted.
He is not the cheapest for paintwork but he is the best and I have used him for 15+ years. He's in Penge too!!

I went for the best of bot hworlds on mine, did have the full colour coding, but now have the rear black and the skirts icolour coded, thoug ham tempted to do the rear bumper again around the diffuser. A few pics from my build thread, much more if you want any.

leave it in original state to make it stand out from ed30! it will be classic in some time and by painting you will ruin it!
just my view
-
If I had a silver car, it would de a deffinate yes. Look at Daboy3000's car if in doubt. It looks great fully coded.
-
Yeah, colour code it. Have an ED30 and found by making the bottom part black it gave the bach end some detinition.
My rear :happy2:

Is this a one man band outlet or actual garage as google mapped and don't see any garage at all!
-
No, it's him, his son and a few other guys, they have about five workshops on site and a spray room.
I don't think he has a website yet but there are some details here - http://www.autoinsider.co.uk/local/garage-services/ai_6317.php
Just had a look on google and you can see the place but it has lots of trees hiding most of it

Back to the OP!
IMVHO This really is a no brainer. the MK5 Golf GTI should have come out the factory colour coded.
If you don't like it :P the lower back bumper costs around £50-£60 direct from the stealers so you can always revert back to the original look, but i know for sure that would not happen as it would look a million times better coded. :happy2:
-
I think VW's excuse for not colour coding it was that it was a styling hark back to the mk1 GTI. We however all know it was just a penny pinching exercise! Fockers.

First thing I did to mine :happy2: http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,44973.msg519812.html#msg519812

Cheers for all the replys, your thoughts have been takin into account, i think i cud have decided.
Alow maybe i havent :signLOL:

If i was to paint the black parts & leave the lower centre section black as it deffently does break it up and give an overall better look.
What would be involved in me prepin the black plastic for painting?
To try and save some of the painters time & my Monies... I have other bits needing painting so it all adds up !
would it be worth it?

The standard bumper valance has a raised texture effect witch needs flatting,,, making it a little smother before the plastic primer is used.
-
what grit of sandpaper to be used?

what grit of sandpaper to be used?
800 with water and a little washing-up liquid would be fine,,, just needs to be smoother, after the plastic primer they should use a two-pack primer witch will make it smooth
enough for the base-coat and laquer...
