Today I set about installing a bluetooth kit to my car.
I have highline 974 cluster and RCD510 head unit, MFSW (with menu and start buttons).
All wiring and the module has been installed.
I used the following plug and play loom:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.carsystems.pl%2Fimg%2Fproducts%2F11%2F5%2F13.jpg&hash=0134b0318aa78627d24f6f943e6063879d26afdc)
from www.carsystems.pl (http://www.carsystems.pl/bluetooth-installation-kit-plug-play-for-premium-module-5n0-and-3c8,id115.html)
There are 2 issues, and may be related?
Firstly there are two coding options in vcds, both give errors.
I have adjusted the coding to 0021141 and now only have errors relating to the microphone and antenna:
Address 77: Telephone Labels: 3C0-035-730.lbl
Part No SW: 5N0 035 730 B HW: 5N0 035 730 B
Component: J412 8502
Revision: 00015000 Serial number: 0000B7A074998
Coding: 0021141
Shop #: WSC 35110 377 09999
VCID: 2757E24496F635B
2 Faults Found:
01523 - Microphone for Telephone (R38)
010 - Open or Short to Plus
01524 - Antenna for Telephone
011 - Open Circuit
Could it be that the plug and play loom is incorrect and may need some pins swapping over?
I guess the errors above is what is preventing pairing with my phone.
Thanks
Jason
EDIT:
This was caused by the fact that RCD510 does not support voice control and so the microphone should be wired directly to the bluetooth unit.
-
nmm im going to be doing mine at some point, got the loom from the same place as you, hope someone has the answer mate

Hope so!
I have got the pin outs for the head unit so will compare to those on the loom and see if I can make sense of it. Hopefully the antenna / mic wires will just need swapping?

Hi mate,
I connected mine to get voice control with the loom from carsystems as it seems you had as well, this as follows;
Its best if you have a look at the pinouts from the RNS510 to determine their locations first, taking notice of the
Multi-pin connector 3, 12-pin, for telephone and microphone signals.
http://www.my-gti.com/529/volkswagen-rns-510-pin-assignments
1: Connect MIC plug into loom plug ( pins 1,7 of rns)
2: Connect the other 2 white plugs together (pins 4,9 to the bluetooth module pins 11,12)
3: Code the Gateway and telephone module 77.
Hope this helps.
-
Heres a link that might help,go down to the diagram part it shows the two methods of connecting up the bluetooth depending on what you have.

Thanks for the quick reply. The pin outs are the same as the rcd 510.

I'll have a look in the morning, it will make more sense with the loom infront of me.
Thanks

No problem hope you get it sorted.

I've checked my loom and it appears to wired in the correct way, to pins 1+7 4+9.
My thoughts now are that the actual pins +ve -ve may be the wrong way round.
Going to swap them later and check operation on vcds.
If its not that, I'm stumped.
-
I double checked and traced the wiring from the BT module to the back of the head unit. Also traced the wiring from the microphone to the back of the head unit.
Ive checked the pins at the BT and HU end and all look correct from the information i found so far.
I have ben playing with different coding options and depending on the coding, different errors appear.
Could this issue be coding related? The vcds suggestion of 0020035 or 0020055 does not work.
The closest I can get is 0021141 but im still left with two errors.
If connect the mic to the BT instead of HU the mic error clears.
I hope this is something really obvious that I have missed!
I have found some coding options for this module (A revision) although mine is a B revision.

Something about LINE wake-up on or off; something about MUTE function perhaps on or off or the key action. There is also a three button module fitted on some cars and I am not sure if this refers to the buttons in the wheel or in the console. The german refers to a three-button control module, so it is probably the buttons either in the headlining for SOS and breakdown etc or similar ones in the centre console.

Thanks Eddie,
I tried your coding (0026221) and it got rid of the antenna error but I think that is because the 5th digit (2) turns off the antenna diagnosis.
I still had the mic error which makes me think there is a wiring problem.
I also noticed that the star button did not work and I was unable to pair the phone.
Im going to make alist of the coding options and try one by one.
Will keep trying.
-
I have tried different coding options but cannot get rid of the two errors.
They indicate a wiring fault. Not sure if the antenna is faulty?
With the mic, the error goes when plugged into the BT module but errors when plugged into the HU.
Could there be a pin wrong on the quad connector?
I have been in touch with car systems where I got the loom from and they are being helpful, but not provided a solution at the moment.
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
???

Weird that it still don't work as it should mate I'll have a look at my coding to see if theres any differences.
Maybe the more knowledgable will come along soon to advise on the matter.

Still no joy with this so ive been double checking everything. I've even swapped to C revision module but still the same issues.
Module 77:

As I have the module wired for voice control, I have pins 11 + 12 on the 54 pin connector wired to pins 4 + 9 on the head unit (12 pin connector D).
The mic is then wired into pins 1 + 7 on the head unit (12 pin connector D).

The interesting thing is that if I connect the microphone straight to the bluetooth unit instead of the head unit, the microphone fault goes away.
This could indicate an issue with the connection between bluettoh module and head unit, pins 4 + 9??
Im not sure about the antenna fault though as that has a fakra connector straight into the bluetooth module.
-
Bit more on this (in the hope some one will be able to help me).
I've been in touch with Ross Tech who have been helpful, but I think the issue is a wiring faault with either the microphone or the loom.
However, I also get this error when tring to set the Radio to 'telephone preparation'.
I guess this setting is for the built in car cradle, but im not sure:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fax_jas%2FGolf_TDI_R32_Replica%2FRadio1.jpg&hash=5783b171b7af80d009d84b7fd532e073d8a251ea)
Im also trying to get help from carsystems.pl where the loom was purchased from but they are not much help.
-
That is odd as I got mine, installed it and it all worked perfectly. Then again I used the 7P6. I originally ordered the 5N0, but returned it after I was told that it would be unsuitable, can't recall why, but there is a thread on here. Could it be the actual module which is giving you the issues and not the wiring? If you can send it back and get the 7P6.
-
I've tried 2 different 5n0 modules. Same result.
Did you activate phone preparation on the radio in vcds? Im not sure if it is required or not
-
I would definitely give a 7p6 module a try. The 5N0 I believe is not for cars with a red MFD, whereas the 7P6 will work, but just not show up on the MFD, you do need a RNS510 or MFSW to operate it though.
I can't recall exactly what I coded on the radio. I can check for you tomorrow if you like, but it will only be in the afternoon.

5no works on red mfd. I have rcd510 and mfsw. It is meant to show sms on display too.
It is showing but not connecting. I have fault codes for mic and antenna.
-
That is interesting as I was told that the 5N0 will not work. Even on carsystems website it says:
ONLY FOR CARS WITH WHITE OR MULTICOLOR MFA+ / DIS
NOT for cars with red MFA / DIS
NOT for cars without multifunction steering wheel
Whereas for the 7P6 it says:
Can be installed in cars :
without MFA / DIS
with red MFA / DIS - than can be ONLY operate the module by a touch screen RNS510 / RCD510
without multifunction steering wheel
The new version is 5K0 which replaces the 7P6
Just saying that perhaps the issues you are having are because of this. Perhaps there is some sort of compatibility issue.
-
the 5n0 a, b, and c revisions work with red, revisions d upwards are white only.
There's something not right though.
Really annoying me now... :-\

Hi Jason,
Im having similar problems with my bluetooth unit.
I have an RNS 510 running fw2760
I did have module 5k0 035 730 A, but for some reason it stopped displaying on my RNS, then stopped controlling the phone.
I now have module 5N0 035 730 A which displays on my red display, and only connects when it bloody wants to. Every 200 times it connects ONCE !!!
I have tried various coding, different phones etc. but no joy.
It did connect yesterday, but now wont...........again. And for some reason I could only see the first 2 phonebook contacts.
Could I ask what your coding is??
I have tried the recommended coding ........... 0020041 & 0020055
I even cleared the existing bluetooth devices by typng 1 in channel 7 as the new value.
But no good :(
JamboV6 has been helping me out on this as im a bit of a newbie with the coding.
If I come across anything will keep you posted.
-
Sorry,
In addition to your coding.......... can you tell me what options you have.
Im starting to think its a Firmware issue, having treid 2 different modules, different coding and different phones.
I have the RNS-510, FW2760, 5N0 035 730 A, No cradle, VW MIC, no overhead buttons, no mfsw
Cheers,
Sean

Hi sean,
That's a good point, I have the 5n0 035 730 c. I've also tried a b module.
I have mfsw, no overhead buttons but rcd510, VW mic.
Mine shows on mfd but will not even find the phone and there for cannot initiate pairing.
I found 0021141 works best (least amount of vcds errors).
I cannot get rid of antenna and mic errors.
Do you have the mic wired fro voice command?
Do you get any errors?
Have you updated your phone recently, that also may have affected compatibility.
I'm at my wits end with this.
I'm currently waiting for a response from car systems to see if they can help.

.......
Me too mate.
I wired my Mic direct to the RNS, cant remember how, but even she pretends she cant hear me.
I end up calling her (RNS) all sorts. Then she works.
I haven't updated the phone, only the RNS from modified FW so my Reverse Cam would work to the normal FW version 2760.... A few weeks later and things started to stop working on the bluetooth !! :( :( :(
The message I always get while pairing.......................
Connect phone...... (Then phone shows on RNS Screen) whilst on the MFD its says' Intialising Phone'.... then it fails !!!
Always the intialising phone stops the connection.
Its only worked about 10 times since I bought the 5N0 module !!!!

Forgot to mention..... no errors with VCDS that Im aware of...... phone is a Galaxy (1) soon to be the new (3) :)

Jason the RCD510 doesn't have voice control which is why on your sticker the pins are blanked out you need to wire it so that the mic goes straight to the BT module

Darren
Seriously! That makes sense as I don't get an error when wired to the bt module.
Still get antenna fault though.
Even Ross tech couldn't tell me that! I'll give it a go today.
Thanks Darren.
Sean, have you tried reverting your fw to see if it cures your problem?
-
Not yet, thinking of upgrading to the newer firmware shortly, but only when I have exhausted every other possibile option !!
:fighting2: :P :fighting:
-

Sean, check that Galaxy 3 is RSAP compatible as I think Samsung removed RSAP from later models, worth looking into.
-
No probs mate although I have been informed that later RCD510 have newer firmware with voice control how good this information is I'm not sure.
Darren
-
Just to wrap this up.
The problem was indeed the fact that the RCD510 does not support voice control which was causing my microphone error.
The solutiuon is to connect the microphone directly to the bluetooth unit, this then resolved the microphone error in vcds.
Thanks for all the help with this!
:happy2:
-
Glad you got this sorted! :happy2:
-
Hello, i know it's quite old subject but i have exactly the same bt module and aeriel error. Did you get it resolved too?
Thanks
