Hi just thought i would post this up , got all this from halfords to re charge and de bug my air con. total cost £54.99 . you get the cleaner for free ,you get £10 when you take the canister back and you get a £10 voucher for spending over £50 . all in all a decent deal

I was just lookin up this... found that kwik fit do it for £49 or £69 to clean it too.
How do you regas it yourself? I haven't investigated it yet. Is it easy?

You would have to find the low pressure side of the air con pipes and attach the gauge same valve as whats on the tyres and chek the pressure that is in the system, if it is low then top up with the trigger.
I think the bottle might last for a few top ups so would work out as A good investment of £54 to keep the system healthy all the time
It would be worth finding out what vw recommend the pressure to be in the ac pipes, I know the kit has a colour coded gauge but I don't know if all cars ac system run with the same pressure.
I wouldn't do this inside a garage as the gas that is in the AC is toxic and will kill you if you inhale it.
If your air con does not work at all then I would suggest that you take it to a professional for them to vacuum out the system and fill with N2 to do any leak checks
If your system is faulty and has developed a leak then all you are going to do is force the gas you are topping up out of where the leaks are.

Booked mine in to kwik fit...£49 for a recharge... can't be bad and saves me messing about when its not that nice out today.
-
Also Halfords charge £9.99 to do the regassing, which means you don't have to pay £19.99 for the trigger. (so you automatically save £10.
And of course you can get the £10 refund for the can there and then (if they are using their brains they can do the 'refund' when they originally put it all through rather then charging you full amount, then refunding after)
- So on the day you'll pay £34.98 :happy2:

The valve fitment on the trigger only fits the low point valve , its quite straight forward . there are some videos on you tube

Ant,
Think twice about booking your car into Kwikfit for ANY work. Do a search on here and for some of the horror stories!

Lots of places will do it cheaper, too. Protyre charge £39.95 for example...

Halfords auto center did the other halfs mini last week. Removed old gas, oiled, cleaned, refilled and tested for leaks for £45. Receipt showed discount at around £90 so seems a cracking deal.

Well, car is back from Kwik Fit... and no charge for me as the recharge didnt make things cold again :(
I then started to search on here and started to fear for my wallet at reading the compressor stories, especially as my car is an 07 plate. However, upon parking the car up at home i noticed a hissing noise... opened the bonnet and there is a definite hissing noise from the lower left of the engine bay when standing in front of the car, so I'm hoping (read preying) that it might be a leak and not the compressor maybe? Or am I clutching at straws?
I didnt think to ask the muppets at Kwik Fit if the system was holding pressure or not, but i guess i could just as easily check that myself now.

My car developed a leak and it cost a bomb to put right at the stealers. £230 to be precise! Was a faulty pressure switch, which I think they shouldn't charge you for, as the design was poor...

Almost bought the same setup from Durham last week, John.
Guy there told me they had none as they were moving round the corner but could get someone to run round with one, he suggested I went to the attached Halfords Autocentre which had a regas/leak test for £49, which I did instead.
Good job I did as my aircon was perfect (my own investigation found it wasn't activating due to me putting on an incompatible heater panel) - and they never charged me for it.
If these kits are any good I'd consider them for the future, but I also found a few aircon specialists locally who do proper services for about the same price as this kit.
