Nice thread there mate! I must say that i also went to morebhp for a stage 1 and i too was impressed with the results plus they had a sale on and got it £199 instead of 3350! :happy2:
whats all the fuss about ? Copied from john_o thread http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,7040.msg108922.html#msg108922
through no fault of our own after relatively few miles and dependent on conditions the inlet tract on TFSI engines starts to foul up.
dont think its just a high mileage issue , its happening to us all.
heres jonnyc S3 8P (still the 2.0 TFSI) intake valve from a stripdown at xx,xxx miles :
jonnyc's S3 stripped
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fyy295%2FScopes_GTI%2Finjectorcakedup.jpg&hash=0512b2d3564c5c73c1ad47d7ee9bf94ec84fccde)
why ?
heres a useful diagram.
The key thing to remember is that the TFSI doesnt have a catch can (but everything else is relevant) , and oil fumes / water vapour and related gumph are ported back into the engine to try and achieve good emissions...
On most cars this is not a problem as fuel washes constantly keeping everything clean.
The bad news is that TFSI is direct fuel injection (injectors spray directly into the combustion chamber), so the only thing passing the intake valves is air (and the oil and water vapour gunk), this is really bad news.
this happens to both standard or remapped cars, but the increased boost pressure is liable to make the issue worse.
How does this work on the 2.0 TFSI ????
heres some info on another thread , with a >> diagram of flow <<
Hope this helps! :happy2:
This is part of the reason I'm running water methanol injection. It helps clean the valves. Good explanation there too :happy2:
Great explanation there Neil
:happy2: crackin snaps mate! looks good! liking the choice of wheels :)
Some nice shots there Neil. I especially like the one of Darth Vader...

Loving that silver carbon bonnet. It goes so well with the silver body paint. John Hurdy had one on his silver car so I've seen it in the flesh (for thousands of miles!).

Sorry for the self whoring, I'm still excited about it :)
@ scopes:
I wouldn't colour code yours - The silver carbon is very subtle and it makes your car look special.
^^^^
You'd find it very difficult to vinyl wrap AeroCatches and for the wrap to stay neat on the edges.
I don't know how well paint would last due to use.
Being a nosey fecker I had a look though the past, actually had your build thread up to read on a tab for a while now haha. Lovely car mate! I wouldn't really be up the northern direction though if I am, I'll keep an eye out!

I like to try and keep it stealthy looking, what's it called OEM+
Some more bits have been added since, just haven't updated my build
Need to try them out before I can comment

Any info on the red hosing? Not including any to/from charcoal canister
Scopes by any chance did you get your bits fitted with Paul at Dubtech Ballymoney....
I want a pm too
I would have replaced all those Vw clips with jubilee clips though!
Love the look of the car
Ed why would you say that, cause I was thinking of using jubilee clips, do you think there would be much pressure in there, as the hose fits over the inserted pipes quite a bit

i can see that you painted the back bumper. Looks like You have also painted the bottom bit of the bumper black im a right?
looks great! im thinking of doing the same to my bumper. i dont know if i should just leave it the normal plastic black colour or get it painted to the black you have had it done too. By any chance do you know what colour that shade of black is or even the code?
thanks

Hey Tomm
Yes back bumper has been painted, but the lower section i left OEM plastic, to match the front spliter.
But have an ED30 Rear bumber getting painted up at the moe, i decided to go with having the lower section of it painted gloss black.
As for a colour shade, i just asked for gloss black man, they should match it to the front grill that's gloss black already! They know how funny i am about everything so im happy for them to work away ...
Few other parts away getting painted also, have a show on saturday, so we will see!
.
Re Jubilee clips, use stainless steel ones - They cost a little bit more but are more durable and you can get them on and off without a VW special tool.
:happy2:
Nice job with the engine bay and like the bonnet catches.
Car looks great pal :happy2: :happy2:
Looks AMAZING Neil :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:
Love them Corsairs! Very very nice rims
Not a fan of those wheels :ashamed: sorry!
Do love the car still though. Great mods & looks pristine :congrats:
Very tastefully modded, Neil :notworthy:
Although they may be OEM, you'll find that stainless steel Jubilee clips will last longer than the VAG spring clips and are much easier to undo when/if required without hitting you in the face!
Where did you get the carbon fibre bits from?
First time I've stumbled across this build! Impressed and full of carbon- I'm in!!! :signLOL:
Neil Neil Neil...what can I say? Speechless as usual!
Crackin' mods yet again you have added to your car!
One of the nicest Reflex Silver GTI's I have seen..didn't think it could get any better!
Keep up the good work mate!
Once I get a few parts etc for mine down the line I may have to give you a shout for some advice :signLOL:
Meeky :happy2:

No worries mate if i'm not hectic at work it shouldn't be an issue fingers crossed!
Go karting etc is good craic now! Pity they weren't mini GTI's..now that would be trumendous! :signLOL:
Yes mate McD's is where i basically live at in Newtownards so its always a pleasure there

That's not on my car chum, but P'm near sure that's the way that centre section comes, is it Osir in the usa, that they come from, not 100% sure.
But a normal one smoothed and dipped could work. It would need smoothed , filled in, evened out, and premiered .
Hope that helps! :happy2:

Just caught up with this Scopes. Looks superb, great attention to detail mate :notworthy:
Looking really good mate !!
Love this GTi.. silver the only way to go :happy2: :happy2:
Great update :congrats:
Stunning build mate..an I correct that by using the daveb discs you can getaway running a thinner spacer as they sit inner by a few mm...
a lot of new work done mate , car looks wicked. Love the new discs too, wonder if dave does a 2 piece disc for s3 set ups hmmm? What's next then mate?
I have a gremlin with my highline dash...
Had it fitted & coded. It worked fine.
My mfsw buttons where fried. I tried a mk 5 Pirelli mfsw and the buttons worked. I think plugging into the mk5 wheel altered how the clocks react/ work though as the mkV Pirelli wheel had a little control box/ module inside the wheel for the buttons because now I can't access my menus either :sad1:
Not much left to do then :P, Im lucky and don't have any squeaks from my car thank god as like you said having a squeak hat you don't know where it's coming from must do your brain in :signLOL:.
I'm looking at fitting cruise soon with the 08 trip stalk aswell which I bought in January.
Just not that much in a hurry to fit then as I have been tidying up little bits That annoy me like my calipers and other tired looking parts.
I also have big plans for mine just waiting on a few things to come Into place then it'll be go go go
Keep up the good work mate, I will keep my eye on your thread :drinking:
Tires are a barstewards time of the year lol £600 straight out the bank haha but needs must with extra power
Jake
i also say " yep thats me done with modding the golf now " my boss says what's the point in changing something that don't need to fixed/changed :signLOL:
i want a full set of ARB but waiting on a full poly bush kit to come up on deal from demon tweeks or somewhere first, then do the ARB and SALK at the same time.
I've got a list as long as the M25 but the realistic plans that will happen will be revealed with the next few months
i love the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy's i fitted to mine not so long ago.
where you based? would be nice to see this car
jake

Come on now Mike, you know you want them, what else would you buy... Oh infact you dont have anything else you need, apart from NEW SEATs for the SEAT.
I have different plans, seats wise... they would be to flashy for me... :star:
I could buy them and let you try them out !
exactly that mate, the more things that are changed and uprated means less to go wrong, in theory!
plus building a super car slaying machine requires new parts every payday :P
he has been out in the car and he did enjoy it he's just old and loves his mint mx5 project, i told him its a hair dresser's dream LOL
I cant wait for my car to be properly set up suspension rather than just coilies and also with new power, a trip to Ireland is on the cards this year as my best friend visits Carrick on Suir twice a year to visit family which i am going to, need to decide whether to drive or get a flight.
seen some nice roads in Ireland that will be a great drive :driver:
Them brakes though  love it mate great progress
Thanks Naill :happy2: I love brakes man, think it's some kind of fetish, Brakes and Carbon Fibre parts  I go weak at the knees :signLOL:

Buy them, let me try them out while I give you a couple of hundred quid a month & I'll subsequently keep them
Loving the recent upgrades. :happy2:
Looking forward to the rest.

I quite fancy the set of Spax PSX coilovers. I've read some great reviews on them and being around £650 isn't a bad price either so I think that's the way I'm going to go soon. Would love a full roll cage to stiffen the whole car up but it's quite a bit of work for me to do
Few new mods will keep me going for a month or 2 :pomppomp:
Jake
Agreed, I've read tonnes on them parts and they only ever get good comments on them.
I'm fitting TT/rs3 top mounts with bearings when I fit the Koni suspension next next weekend. Have you replaced yours with the TT/rs3 mounts or have you Gina aftermarket.
Replied to pm :happy2:
Another small update...
New superpro ball Joints fitted  Tracking/Alignment being done as i type !
Raised the rear coilovers up a notch, removed and re-lubed my rear ARB as it was squeeky dry, all good with some lube !
New subframe spacers and Audi's non strech bolts fitted :jumpmove:
So with having the highline clocks fitted some time ago, i could never get into my menu options, Something to do with needing a MFSW.
So fitted the cruise control, nice new toy... Dont think i will use it much, but its fitted now.
Also fitted the Trip computer Wiper stalk, with some slight hope it would let me into my options, to fit the polar fis+, but with no joy, i need to try something else...
It seems the RS4 steering wheel, needs a loom made up to fit the 2 connectors together, that may allow my RS4 wheel work as my MFSW...
Loom needed :sad1:
Has anyone every got an RS4 wheel MFSW Buttons to work with there GTI?
Time will tell! :popcornsoda:
Some new valve caps arrived :jumpmove: will match my centre caps  New black front VW badge on its way, as my old one has faded.
Top mounts and bearings replaced :driver: Nice ! Some testing now, to see if i can notice any difference !
:popcornsoda:
Can't wait to get my mounts on, I only put my oem mk5 new top mounts in 2300 miles ago so when I sell the suspension set up in 2 weeks time they'll be perfect for someone :happy2:
I just like to replace everything
I had a irritating rattle which turned out to be the bolt that holds in inner fuse box (drivers side) in place. now the only rattle I have is the passenger side sun visor bulb housing rattles which drivers me nuts when pulling away/reversing :fighting:
Discs or the bells ?
Jake
Jake
The SP ball joints are a great little mod
Hoping to be fully super pro bushed / parts by the end of the year so looking at £1500 fitted
Yeah no half measures, just get it all the bushes done in one hit lol wanting stage 2+ with clutch first that's my main priority after my new suspension kit goes on....with extra bits that will be coming with it :evilgrin:Hoping to be fully super pro bushed / parts by the end of the year so looking at £1500 fitted
It has to be another great set of mods ! :P Peace of mind thing, even more so if you will be keeping your car !
Good to hear the car is feels much better handling wise mate and your happy with it
Would opyou not bother with the super pro ball joints then if your not after ' fitment ' and wanting a tighter front end? More importantly what have you replaced them with mate?
Jake

Not an update, but a small problem that is needing solved :notworthy:
ARB Bushes, I have the whiteline ARB's fitted, but they seem to dry up, do the bushes need replacing or re-greased up, it's just i have tried re-greasing them, but before long the the dreaded squeaking comes back :fighting:
Is there a certain type of grease to use?
Some better than others?
Can the bushes be replaced with a different type of bush?
Thanks in Advance ! :happy2:
How have I not seen this car before, the ap racing brakes are amazing aren't they, on the mobile so only got that far back, I've got them with r8 4pots and brake fade is a thing of the past, do you go to any of the gti NI shows, like castewellan or will u be at cruise for cancer?
Oh ! What could be next?
What centre caps are those Neil, had to do a double take at first?!
And, no, really - what is next?!
:popcornsoda:
Anything new on this mate?
nice bonnet
Stunning car. Makes me want to get my silver one colour coded and get big brakes :drinking:
Good to see someone else from NI here, Where abouts in NI are you at?

Hey sgour
Must have missed this, From Carrickfergus :happy2: Yes having it colour coded made a big difference, but now i find that seeing the GTI's as they were originally, sometimes i think i should have left it like that ... :rolleye: :rolleye:
Big brakes have to be one of the best mods yet !
It was sold on there a wee while back, the new owner got a cracking car, all the mods had be left on it, the dealers i dont think new what they had for sale...
TV screens, rns510, full bbk upgrade, intake, lightweight battery, loads of extra wee mods done...
:rolleye:
Lucky if you can get your hands on the gti recaro seats for a good price. They look great, cost a bomb though !
Those brakes are very, very sexy! I think that might just be the best kit for fast road applications, for a GTI :happy2:!
Very good job with the MFSW. I've also done it recently and the only benefit (except the Polar FIS+ or REVO Select PRO, in my case) is the fact that you can easily increase/decrease the volume. If you do that a lot, it come in very handy!
Keep up the good work! :congrats:
And so the brake fetish continues  Looking good Scopes, keep up the good work.
Good work. Braver than me ! I wouldnt be taking a dremel to my steering wheel incase I made a hash of it !
Congrats on the job well done! :congrats:
I wouldn't be able to do it myself. :notworthy:
At the moment I have 5 active screens on my Polar FIS. On the 1st one I have these parameters:
1-Boost pressure (actual)
2-Exhaust temperature
3-Boost pressure (specified)
4-Intake temperature
5-Oil temperature
6-Engine temperature
Love what you've done to your GTI! :happy2:
Thanks mate ! :happy2: You wouldn't or couldn't ??? Once i cut the first bit, that's when i said, Ahh there's no going back now, at the point of no return! :signLOL: Once the first side was done, the second was much easier to do.I wouldn't be able to finish the job... Need more skills. :ashamed:
On the Polar, They look like a good selection of options to view, think i need to have time spent playing around with it... Not to sure how to add extra screens yet, also how come i only have 5 options to view on screen ???
One big one and 4 below it.
Cool ! Sounds like fun, has the polar fis+ the 0-60 timer on it?Yeap, but if you set it from 0-60 it will count as soon as you make the last click. Better to set it from 1-60 to be easier on the hand pedal coordination.

Hey Rich
No ! Wasn't me. But as you say about steering rack, is there a steering rack bush that can be upgraded???,
I'm near sure whiteline does a bush for the steering rack...
:happy2:
Some camber added to the rear -02.39scopes great build thread could i please ask what size wheel spacers do you use and what size 12/13mm or 15 mm spacers to get enough room behind the alloys and TTRS calipers

:happy2:
Nice one mate, car's looking good and I'm sure you where well happy with the prize :happy2:
Haven't read your build but have you tried changing the PCV?
Hey man! I have the same issue, mostly after a short acceleration, and stop at the red light.
I have also changed everything and now i was thinking it could be the remap until I saw the other thread. I should try to change again the DV, maybe I got a faulty one since it'd rev D,.
No, still have a lot to do until the car will start again. I'm in a middle of a DSG conversion and it seems that the wire loom I bought is from a TDI, the guy told me it's TSI, installing new coilovers and some aero mods. :fighting:
The first thing that I will replace after new logs will be the DV, if not by a miracle the problem is gone.
I'll let you know if I get it sorted.
Anyone aware to do this ?&index=30
