Right chaps I need some advice on a situation that arose on Saturday night.
I had my mate and his wife around for beers and a takeaway on Saturday. He had brought an 8 pack of carlsberg. (for starters ) When he handed me the case he said, "listen, I think there is a bottle opener inside on of the bottles". You could hear it rattling about. While I was putting the beer in the fridge I never looked at the bottle but I did check the packaging and there was nothing about any promotion....
Later in the night when he got to this bottle, after he had drank it a piece of metal fell out. On closer examination it was about 75mm long and 10mm wide, hollow, and had a black rubber collar and an o ring at the opposite end, it was also stepped in a few places. Not unlike a head phone jack plug. It is stainless steel.
It is clearly part of a machine.
I have a pic on my I phone but can't get the image onto here.
I emailed carlsberg who are keen to get it back and do an investigation but, I'm afraid if I send it away my bargaining chip for free beer forever will be gone forever!
If anybody could upload the image I can email them it.
What should I do next?

If Carlsberg did foreign objects.........
Couldn't resist.
Surely that's worth free beer for life?

:signLOL: Carlsberg don't do foreign objects, but if they did, they would be the most foreign, foreign objects in the world........ :signLOL:

I am happy to upload the picture onto here, but if you can email it me then surely you can email it to them ?

I already have emailed them a photo, hence why I think they are so keen to get it back!
I was only going to email it to somebody here so they could put it on the tread, then you can see the object I am talking about. :happy2:

Ha thats madness.
Free beer for you..
Ask them where you stand before returning?
Maybe a pouring valve from one of the machines???
I had sharp burrs on the edge of some carlsberg ring pulls yrs ago. Sent cans back had £40 in vouchers.
-
That sounds ok carrg. :happy2:
Spoke to a woman from carlsberg earlier but she wasn't very forthcoming. Just kept saying we will get the object uplifted.
I think I will call Citizens advice tomorrow, see what they have to say.
I could easily have lost an eye if I had swallowed that... :popcornsoda:

I would say I was drinking the beer at a party, so never heard any rattling etc, and the metal piece ended up in my mouth and I nearly choked!
You have sent an image, and to me it clearly looks like a nozzle of some kind used to dispense the beer into the bottle.
Tell them you will be contacting the media if you do not get a suitable response. You are willing to send the item back once an agreement has been made.
-
They want you to send it to them because then they can find out if it came off one of their machines. Unfortunately its not as simple as showing the engineering team a picture and asking them if it could have come off a machine, they will have procuedures to follow which will start by obtaining th foreign item.
If it genuinely has come off something in the factory they will likely admit it and reimburse you somehow. However if they can't find where it came from you are unlikely to get anything whether you keep the part or send it in and whatever fuss you try and create.
I used to work in the food industry and the amount of people you get trying it on, claiming they have found items in food is rediculous, you couldnt make some of these stories up! Companies are therefore naturally cautious about foriegn item claims.
Let us know how you get on!

Lifetime supply of beer, or the media gets it. :drinking:

Who would want a lifetime supply of carlsberg? It's like dishwater

That is essentially Fraud, you were both well aware there was something in the container (as well as beer), so lying to them saying you nearly choked whilst at a party is both a lie and a fraudulent claim on your behalf, a better option would be to have them collect it and get the issue sorted, perhaps this will stop someone "Genuinely" choking on an item in the future, rather than you lying to them to get free beer!.

Just to be clear I have never lied to anybody throughout this, how could My mate possibly not notice a 3" metal tube in his beer? I have contacted citizens advice and somebody from environmental health is coming for a meeting on Monday. I have also given Carlsberg all of the information required to start the investigation.
As for the taste of the beer, bear in mind it would'nt taste half as bad if it was free! :drinking:
I will keep you posted.

Citizens Advice?, Environmental health?, looks like someone is after compensation far outweighing an apology and few free crates of ber :signLOL:

Honestly mate, if they had offered me an eight pack I would have been happy. Since they offered nowt, I am going to make it as difficult as possible. Oh and I never contacted environmental health. Citizens advice did!

My mate once found a bolt in a pack of crisps, he sent it back and got a full retail box of crisps and he was happy.

Any update :drinking:
Well, the guy from environmental Heath came and collected the object, bottle etc. seemed very surprised that the object was so large and had went unnoticed. Said he would keep me posted on his investigation.
Also gave carlsberg the serial numbers that they required to begin thier investigation so it's just the waiting game now....... :popcornsoda:

It's the thought that counts! Give them a shake to see if there is any other parts of machinery floating around :happy2:
-
A wee update chaps!
I emailed environmental health to ask how the investigation was progressing and got this as part of the reply.
"I've confirmed that the lager was bottled by a third party for Carlsberg and that the foreign body is, as we thought, a filling nozzle. I'm advisd that no other incidents of this nature have been reported."
The investigation continues......... :popcornsoda:

It looks like one of the filler tips that sit in the bottle whilst the beer is pumped into the bottle :happy2:
