i had one of those new hatchback mercs follow me today was the new a25 amg on german plates in red with massive brakes and all the amg stuff on it must say it looks very cool

It's gotta be said, Mercedes are on the verge of causing a paradigm shift from BMW. Ok, the Bimmer diesels are miles ahead, but AMG are hoofing it over M, and the Mercedes styling is gonna lead to a lot of us following our hearts over our heads in the near future. :happy2:
-
I don't know. The M ethos has always been about dynamically capable cars, rather than big power. I still think they are miles ahead in that respect. Having said that I'd find it hard making a decision between the two.

I quite agree, but just look at the Bimmers next to these Mercs. They touch the soul, these Mercs, and they still drive very well, maybe not at the level of the M cars, but well enough. BMW seems to be all about "brilliant, if you can live with the looks" Too big a compromise in my opinion.

love these cars right now

I am yet to drive a high powered Mercedes that is anywhere close to the thrill of an equivalent BMW.
Mercedes ALWAYS mess us the steering and overall feel of a car. Just drive an M3 and a C63 back to back, the M3 is like a finely tuned precision instrument and the C63 is a sledgehammer with a rubber handle.

And the A250 AMG gets crap reviews. 208bhp isnt enough, and the A45 with 350bhp will be too much.
Id quite fancy something like an A30 AMG, with about 300bhp and a manual box.

Been eyeing up the new AMG mercs for some time now - The new A-Class looks pretty awesome as well but wait and see what they do with engines/final builds http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedkingdom_website/en/home_mpc/passengercars/home/new_cars/future_cars/the_new_a-class.flash.html (http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/content/unitedkingdom/mpc/mpc_unitedkingdom_website/en/home_mpc/passengercars/home/new_cars/future_cars/the_new_a-class.flash.html)

The one I saw in red had larger exhaust ports I think looked very nice
-
Apparently the 3 door version will not be around till 2013 though. :sad1:
-
not really a fan of fast Mercs
put it this way: i'd have an E250 CDI and a Cayman over an E63 AMG any day
i think the only companies that are good at "all-rounders" are VW/Audi (Golf R, S3, B7 RS4 etc.) and BMW (M3) but when you're spending that kinda money on a car i'd still rather have a dedicated sports car and a dedicated cruiser
