Title: Shed Alarms
Post by: rich83 on July 11, 2012, 12:09:01 am
Does anyone use an alarm on their shed or garage that isnt connected to the house system?

IF so which system do you use?

Yes Rich I have a Response one with a remote activation.

Poor reviews though but mine works ok.

Yale did a nice one but I believe they are discontinued now.

You can add to it just by touching them together I believe.

The theiving scummers would probably just rip it off the wall but its just a deterrent.

Ohh what a friendly looking dog.  :scared:

Would make a great family bet if you want your child's arm taking off, no time for such animals.

.
On the dog topic, a dog's behaviour is more often than not greatly influenced by it's owner. I know several folk who have Staffy or similar and they look fierce but are as gentle as lambs - At least they are with me.

Perhaps this scares them into submission!:

Back on the subject of shed alarms......   You could hire me to scare people away.

Or paint this image on your garage or shed door.

....Wouldn't someone simply force entry through the wired glass panels?

Well.... its a deterrent. Its 100x more substantial than the yale lock thats on there already, so it it stops someone yanking the door open (ive done it before) then its worked.  Smashing windows is a noisy business....  :happy2:

Hi rich, I have a powermax wireless alarm, all batteries are lithium and the main panel is mains power. I have them in the house, garage and shed and its been in 4 years and is faultless!  It rings my mobile if it goes off and I can monitor on cctv to see whats going on. It isnt that expensive to be fair and you can add sensors.

If your windows are beaded from the rear your ok, but front beads can be prized off with a screwdriver and window lifted out and propped at side of shed, that how my mates mountain bike got nicked a few years back  :scared:

A regular method round our way is to unscrew the door hinges, so buy a set of security screws, torx screws or carriage bolts.  Or, if you're paranoid like me, a selection of each!

The hinges are internal (like a internal house door) so should be ok.  :happy2:

If you wire up that clasp to 240v AC and place a small sign somewhere for H&S stating that you may get electrocuted due to building works

When I was a biker I knew somebody who dug a 6ft deep pit in front of his garage where only he knew where to walk and ride. He had reached his tolerance level with his bikes getting nicked.

He then placed a sign up saying construction under way keep out with all the relevant documentation. He woke up one morning to find a tea leaf in a pit!

He resisted the temptation to, in his words, 'give him a kickin'.

I think he claimed he couldn't read and he was just delivering leaflets or the like.

Not sure what happened.

Just another option.

Take the doors off turn them round, refit lock and bob's your uncle, thats how we sorted my mates shed after the theft, we also blacked out the windows.
