Hi all, right havent had any worries over this or anything telling me to get both done but.... im nearing 80k and should i bite the bullet and just get them both done for peace of mind or wait for the symptoms?
-
There most likely won't be any symptoms, it'll be catastrophic.
-
I hear if water pump starts playing up the temp gauge goes over the middle... thats the symptoms
-
personally, if its over 4 years or 40k since the last one (i think thats the time/distance.. its late) i would most defo get it done asap.. you will only be full of regret if it goes bang! i know its expensive but better to be safe than sorry.
i did a bit of research before getting one done on my old mk4 and some of them can go past 100k without ever having one, but some can go way before, even before the stated time.
if i was you, i would most probably start to think about getting it done, not immediately but sooner rather than later.

Cool well how much does this all cost usually? Is it worth putting into vw or just a decent garage?
-
^^^ It's 4 years or 60k miles, whichever arrives first. This is VW's advice.
Costs about £400, indy should be cheaper. Try to find a VAG specialist indy, not just any garage as it needs to be done absolutely correctly.
-
I actually think I had my timing belt done just before I bought it but they didn't do pump? Even though both come together I was told, weird. So how much in costs is this usually?
-
Yeah there's a good VAG garage 10 mins away, I'm sure I spoke to them before and they said they'd do it for £240. I'm sure..
-
my VW dealer was looking £500 but haggled it down to £400
Plenty of good vag mechanics out there doing it for less than £300
-
I suppose if you want the gen parts etc.. This local vag garage uses all gen parts so hoping they don't cost too much and will just get it done. Defo before the winter comes in. Need a long life service done too and alloys are currently getting Refurbed too so spending a few pennies the now!
-
I would be getting the belt and pump done before the alloys  wheels will look good on a staitionary car with a blown engine
-
The alloys are already in, due for pick up at end of week. Just bought 4 new goodyears also so costing a fair bob just now lol, I think the water pump/belt and service will do nicely at the same time.

+1 big time.
I've done absolutely no exterior mods to my car as yet. Not because I don't want to, but because at the moment all my spare cash is going into making my baby run as sweetly as possible. But ETTO!
-
I do agree, just thinking about pump/belt earlier so posted here. Will make some calls tomorrow then!!
-
Booked in for end of sep for a long life service
-
I need to get mine done and I haven't had a quote below 450 I might as well just go to vw dealers 399

This, to the letter!! :happy2:
Get it done ASAP, really ASAP. From what you say, your on your original pump after 80k!! Price wise, £400 ish and your all sorted.
:drinking:

Just for info, I rang my local VW dealer today to price up a 4 yr service which is due anytime soon. My car only has 25k on so will hit 4yrs first. They told me as part of the fixed price servicing a major service was £259. Timing belt and tensioner would take it to £339 and worst case with water pump (which they said they would inspect and only change if necessary) would take it to £419.
-
^^^^ for £80 extra, get it done no matter what they say.
:happy2:

Well for what i am getting done which is .. Long life service, a/c recharge and brake fluid, haldex for 4motion and i am going to be £387. Not bad that!!
