Title: Servicing
Post by: lippyx on August 09, 2012, 07:59:39 am
What would you expect to be done in a major service, on a 2008 Diesel GT Sport, with 48k on the clock, which does regular motorway miles?

Oil change?
Fuel filter?
Air Filter?

Its last service was approx 38k, end of last year (before I owned the car)

cheers

Lx

Has it had the cam belt and water pump done? If not that's required to be done on the 4 year service. As its a major I would think it would be everything

Full service you would expect oil and filter, fuel, air and pollen filter to be changed.

Had cam belt done last month. All they seem to have ticked in the service book is oil change. They have put "no" under all the other filters! It hasn't had any filter changed for at least 10k, if not more!

I just wanted to check before I call them up and question them.

is it DSG? if so, the DSG oil and filter will need changing.

Brake Fluid change?

Well, I just called my local VW, to confirm, they said all filters should be changed, oil change and then the usual check over brakes, tyres etc.
So called the VW dealer it went to for the service, and queried it, and apparently, because I have a Service Plan (I didn't even know I did) when I bought the car, they have to check with VW finance to see if they will approve said recommended replacements!! Obviously, they only approved the oil change! She needs to double check and is calling me back tomorrow, but I am fuming! She knows how many miles I do a day (40 miles a day, 5 days a week, plus what ever I do at the weekend) yet by the looks of it, it doesn't warrant all filters to be replaced!

Is this the norm? I was always taught, as a rule of thumb, every year or 10k miles, all filters, plugs/leads (in petrols), oil is changed, and you check all fluid levels, and replace accordingly?
