Hi, I've just bought my first Golf GTi, it's a 2008 MK5 and I absolutely love it!
I've had a few problems with web sites identifying the car from the registration and when I received my V5C from DVLA today I noticed it has some mistakes and missing values compared to my old car.
Can anyone check their V5C for their MK5 and give me the correct values? My incorrect or questionable items are:
Model: GOLF GTI {Should this have (200) after it as that's what it seems to come up as on insurance sites?}
Body Type: SALOON {Obviously it's a hatchback but what's the correct description?}
Max. net power (kW): MISSING
Engine number: MISSING {How do I find it?}
Max. permissible mass (exec. m/c): MISSING
Mass in service: MISSING
Technical permissible maximum towable mass of the trailer:
braked (kg): MISSING
unbraked (kg): MISSING
Sound level:
stationary (dB(A)): MISSING
engine speed (min-1): MISSING
drive-by (db(A)): MISSING
Thanks guys!

Wonder if your car is an import

My diesel is an import and all the info is present

I think it was registered by someone who didn't know what they were doing! :smiley:

Does your car show up ok on insurance, tyre etc website when you put in the registration number?
-
Yes everything is as you would expect apart from the main dealers who frowned at me when I was in buying a new top air con vent :signLOL:
Some insurance companies ask and others dont. Always best to inform them but no difference to premium

I bought mine from a main dealer, their knowledge of the car was pretty non existent.
I've done a bit of research and think I've figured out a few things.
I found the engine number sticker, the number is in the format BWA123456, can anyone confirm this is how its recorded on their V5C?
I think the body type should be recorded as "5 DOOR HATCHBACK", is this right?
I'm not sure if the Max. net power (kW) should be 147 or 149.1, anyone know?
Thanks

i have an old Polo, it was originally bought in Ireland, brought over here and re-registered. When i get parts for it the registration check says it is a golf cabriolet.

I guess no one has a V5C they can check for me :sad1:

I had similar issues with my Clio 172, it was wrongly registered as a cup, this had been the case for nearly 4yrs when I got it. I rang the DVLA and all I had to do was get the correct relevant info for the document verified by a main dealer (sales manager or similar) and the changes required sent to them on headed paper, they then changed the V5 to suit, bit of a hassle but got sorted in the end.
It turned out that my car was first sold and registered by a independant trader so they'd got it all wrong, could be this or as stated above the person registering it at VW was a bit of a numpty.

Thanks Andy, that's great.
One question though, what do you have against the engine number field, is it AXX123456 or just 123456?
Cheers

Thanks mate, I probably have everything I need now, will check whenI get home and write a letter to the DVLA.
-
I'd give them a ring first to see what exactly they need from you, they wont do anything over the phone it all has to be in writing but it can take ages so a quick call might speed things up.

Thanks for the help. Had to write on the v5c next to all the wrong entries, sign it & send a covering letter with it back to DVLA. Now up to 4 week wait for its return!
