Title: Not really impressed.
Post by: Bane on September 14, 2012, 09:10:31 pm
Saw my first Golf R in the metal today.
It was a kind of a metallic grey colour(under all the grime) and I only saw it from the rear quarter.
Would not have noticed it was an R if I hadn't clocked the wheels, then the twin exhausts...thought it was a MK6 GTTDI at first!
Not really impressed TBH and if I was going to have an R it would be the MK4 R32.With a supercharger!

Have you seen the new one mk7 R??? Spotted driving around Germany. Luckily, he was only doing 10mph so the pictures would come out clearer!  :rolleye:

The zorts look terrible

.
I think it's true to say that the majority of Mk4 R32 owners, and probably some Mk5 R32 owners as well, are very disappointed by what Volkswagen have currently served up with a R badge. Obviously it's missing that vital ingredient of the V6 and its glorious sound.

Personally I think that the Mk4 R32 is equivalent to the Mk5 GTI inasmuch that it's a very hard act to follow. The Mk6 GTI just doesn't cut the mustard as a ground breaking car IMO. I haven't been in a Mk6 Golf R yet.

....That just looks like any Mk7 and nothing special. A R-badged car needs to look more distinctive.

Thats just a prototype testing pic so its disguised with a "normal" mk7 shell hiding whats underneath and not to let out what the end product will look like styling wise. Obvioiusly the exhuast will look nicer but hopefully remain as quads

Was just about to say, thats a normal Mk7 shell with Mk7 R running gear most likely. The production model will not look like that. If they were road testing a proper R this far in advance, it would be in total cammo drag.

If they do actually do one (as suspected) with the 2.5 TFSI 5cyl in we won't give a f**k what it looks like  :P    :driver:

I quite like the fact the Golf R is a sleeper, to go quick it does not need to shout about it  :happy2:

Yeah, but a mapped edition30 will be almost as quick, without the power sap of an all wheel drive system. And it looks better,in my opinion anyway.(but I'm biased )

But as Hurdy has proved, a stage 1 map with an intake, puts the performance in supercar territory! I'm vy impressed by the figures he's getting.

I cant see ANY Edition 30 doing 3.9s 0-60 or getting anywhere near a mapped R on the twisties, I would rather have a 360bhp Golf R than a 400bhp Ed30 as you could use the power anytime on the R, I love my ED30 but it will be replaced with a Golf R when prices are sensible  :happy2:

I hope they don't use anything like the exhaust shown on that mule, it looks truly terrible - straight out of Demon Tweeks catalogue circa 1997, imho.

Maybe in a traffic light gran prix, but everyone knows that once rolling an ed30 is quicker full stop, so surely that means a stage 1 ed30 is a supercar slaying monster then? What would that make a stage 2+ car?

I will be upgrading to an R too, when the prices are sensible. Has to be 5 door with Sat Nav and leather.
Doesn't seem to be a huge drop in MPG compared to mk5 GTI (well on paper anyway)

I will be looking for either White/Black or Grey 5dr, DSG + WITHOUT leather (I prefer the look of the cloth tbh), SAT NAV and any other options a bonus  :happy2:

Just been on Autotrader, wide range in prices : 20k to 35k

Would be interested to know what production figures were for the R compared to ED 35 and standard GTI

Partly tempted by a 330d too, although not quite as quick   :ashamed:
