Title: Glove box handle
Post by: Spooky1 on September 18, 2012, 03:00:49 pm
Hello,

I have only just realised that my glove box handle is almost broken.

The chrome locking latch bit doesnt like opening because it looks like some oaf (me) pulled on it while it was locked.

I have spoken to the dealer about a possible fix and they replied "its a common fault, the pins used to retain the locks were weak and sometimes break."

The repair kit is a brand new glove box lid with better pins, but a whopping £225 supply and fit.

Does anyone know of a cheaper work around?

ta.

there is a screw on the inside part of the lid, take that out and the handle can be removed

you can then buy a replacement one for about £8

Brushed ali I think to match the rest of the interior trim. :happy2:

Being a complete numpty at these things, I've just tried to remove the old handle but no joy.....what type of screw is holding it in place? Can't seem to get a screw driver small enough into the gap between the lid and the centre console? :ashamed:

I think it's a T20 torx

just be careful the screw doesn't drop inside or you have to take the whole glovebox out to retrieve it

Cheers guys, tried a T20 torx driver but it's too long to get in between the centre console and the glovebox. My ratchet set bit is to big to go in the hole in the glovebox lid! What should I be using? :ashamed:

Hello again,

Well I had a go at removing the torx screw, but when I opened the handle to gain access to the screw the handle came clean off in my hand. It was only hanging on by a thread!

So now I guess I'm going to struggle to get the glove box itself open to remove the lid to get the new handle and mechanism in.

Bugger.
