Hey all
I have that familiar 'itch' we are all aware of ,in that I fancy a new car. Now I love my GTI and would ideally like another one , but newer. My local VW garage is GTI World in Edinburgh (55 miles away) and they have a Red 2008 Ed30 3 door manual with 23K on the clock in , but its up for £14,800 and its a base spec , it seems quite expensive, however its in budget and looks great in the pic I saw.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FDmc1969%2Fvolkswagens%2F267340_507725232590810_1507218311_n_zps3caa4d35.jpg&hash=6b6a3323a31b000b25215d078a24df06d3060657)
They also have a 3 door 'standard' GTI coming in, 2008/58 plate , in Candy White (my fave colour) with Leather and Armrest and 18" Monza IIs , it only has 17500 miles on it and looks awesome....no price yet but I can guess it wont be cheap. Ive ALWAYS wanted a White GTI , so now I'm torn and dont know wtf to do! help!

FYI my current GTI is a 2005 3 door TR with Leather and Armrest , 17" Monzas and has 52000 on the clock.

Lots of stuff can be retro-fitted so, IMO, if you find a car you like with the colour your really want then go for it.

Thats true , I'd like to try an Ed30 to see if it's really worth having one as opposed to the standard GTI , however I love my full leather and I prefer Monza style wheels to the Pescaras , but then again , I prefer the colour coding on the Ed30! Aaarghhh! I think Im going to have to build my own car because VW didnt do one that was perfect for me! :signLOL:

You can find a white ed30 for less than that red one in the UK
The difference in performance between the ed30 and GTI is very noticeable
-
At £15k I'd be looking at a MK6 GTI personally...

I'd LOVE a white Ed30 3 door! :happy2:

Aye , I've been thinking about that option too , but from dealers up near me they all seem to be £16-17K

How about this beast Donna?

Nice to forum bump into you again :happy2:

Who is Donna? :scared: Nice car that btw , but its DSG and modded , I'm after a standard manual car. :happy2:
-
Oops different dmac :signLOL:
Yeah I agree, better to buy a blank canvas, and manual is cheaper to repair.
I'd keep checking Autotrader etc for a better priced ed30, the one you showed is what I'd expect a white one to be priced at. But whatever colour you get, you'll be very happy with it

White Ed30s seem very rare , (not as rare as white R32s but still bad!)
-
Aye they are, and priced a good £2000 over others. Is it reallly worth that?

Thats the question eh? I love White though , and I mean REALLY love it , however I think a white GTI looks amazing combined with the 18" Monzas , more so than a White Ed30 with Pescaras - but I do like the colour coded plastic parts on the Eddy. An then theres the Mk6 GTI to consider! I think my head is going to explode! :signLOL: :scared: :signLOL:

Buy the car you will enjoy driving the most, which is basically the edition 30 as it has the best engine. No point buying the same car you have but in a different colour.
-
ED30 sounds expensive at £14k!! They are lovely though.....
-
It's not really worth losing how ever many hundreds of £ to change cars just because the other is a nicer colour personally.
To change to the ED30 is a good upgrade, though if changing cars it's nice to sit inside and notice all the differences.
I would suggest a white MK6 GTD, guy at work has one and it looks amazing, the interior is great (seats/dash etc) and it's mapped to around 200bhp, but wit much better torque than a GTI could get. And within budget
-
^^^^ what Al says!
Seems VERY expensive TBH for that particular Eddy. Paid 12k for my Red ED30 with a bit higher spec than that over 6 months ago. Would suggest if you really want white, get a standard GTI and spend the extra ££££ on mods. Can't see the point of spending extra money just for a colour unless you can afford to throw it around.
:happy2:

Its not just the colour really , I just fancy something a bit newer TBH , even though I love driving what I have , so why not just get a newer one.... I dont really fancy a diesel , so it would have to be a GTI/Ed30. Mk6 is a good shout however because I do like the look of them.

Exactly, we'll said! It doesn't always have to be bigger and better. People choose new cars for different reasons, I don't think you always have to aspire to 'upgrade', or have something faster and better. If you like your GTI, then why not get the same thing, but a bit newer and a different colour? It might not be logical to some, but more fool them.
-
Consider what you'll be doing in the car. As much as i wanted an Edition 30 at the time, doing 10 miles total round trip to work isnt worth an extra few thousand pounds. Plus you cant argue with that white....
-
Changing a car rarely makes financial sense, but lets be honest its not the reason we buy or mod our cars. I think you would be looking at £6000 for yours as a part ex (more if you sell privately) if you can afford (your finances are your business) to continue and buy one of these cars if its what you want to do..... do it! you only live once, enjoy.
I was in a similar position 06 plate mk5 gti 36k all paid for, decided to part ex for a 2011 mk6 gti with 6.5k on the clock (loving it... just make sure financially your happy with your decision) and I think your right 16/17k for a mk6 with reasonable mileage is more realistic.
Good luck with whatever you decide. :happy2:

I'll second that! White Mk5 looks stunning... Change the spec to your needs :)
-
Thanks for all the advice guys , I've just checked the GTI World website and that Ed30 has dropped by a grand to £13800. :happy2: I might have a run up at the weekend and have a spoach around it , and the White GTI - they also have a couple of Mk6 3 Doors for a tad under £17K that look quite nice.
-
I know it's a nice car, but it looks like rock bottom spec, 5 years old, and remember, in a few months time the MKV will be 2 models old. I still think its expensive at £14k.

Thats very true , Im sure the value of both Mk5 and 6 will be depressed when the Mk7 is out.

Yeah, you could see those £16k - £17k MK6 GTIs pushed down a few grand. Worth waiting I'd say.
-
I would hold on to yours and get some more miles out of it! In terms of driving pleasure you will be getting exactly the same whether with mk5 or mk6 whichever you choose! Otherwise you will be just losing money in my view!
There are plenty of high mileage modded gtis here if high mileage is your concern

Thats another option for sure , my current GTI still drives fantastically well , and when I'm sitting in it I feel that I'm 'home' , the GTI is definately the perfect car for me. I just have that absurd notion we all get from time to time , that I fancy a change.
Heres a pic of my current car , just for reference

Well , thats me sorted , Im getting the White Mk5 , just waiting on the private plate transfer to go through. (18000 miles , one owner , leather , armrest , Monza 2s) Looks and drives like brand new - I will post pics up when I pick her up!! :happy2:
-
Nice mileage. And it will be better paint job than any respray :happy2:
-
if i was buyin another one defo an ed30 all the way
-
Now that Ive got my 'Dream GTI' (White , leather and 18" Monzas) it will probably be an Ed35 I trade up to , or an R. I plan to have this one for longer than the two years i had the Red 05 plate , so by the time I get rid , Ed30s will all be a bit long in the tooth.
