Been offered a swap for my 2005gttdi with 50k on the clock,see my build thread about my car  to swap for a mk 4 r32,

If it were me, swap it. I am basing this purely on my love for the Mk4 R32, common sense out the window. Truly believe (aesthetically) it looks much better than the Mk5 flagship models. Would love one in the garage as a project.

If you know it's history and can get it all checked out and all (very overdue) the maintenance sorted out, why not.

Couple on PistonHeads and 2 stunners in Black on Autotrader, all around £6k ish. Go for it, they sound bloody gorgeous.

Note to self: stop looking at Mk4 R's  :sad1:

As the Mk4 R32 is a mate's, you'll know how it's been looked after etc and the mileage shouldn't be a problem.

It'll be more expensive to run than your GT TDI and it won't have the oomph of a turbo but it will have the glorious sound of the V6 and '4WD'. The interior of the Mk4 .:R is very good too. But you might miss not having those rear doors.

The expenses aren't a problem as i only work half a mile from home,its been looked after but the chains  will need doing

I thought you had 8 or 9 children  :grin: only having 3 doors is going to be a pain in the :booty: the mk4 golf was much better built than the 5, we had one (not the R32) for years without any trouble. I just think its a backward step, it's not like the R32 is that much of a classic, nice but not great

Got a 7 seater Toyota to ferry the kids about,so the golf is just for me,agree on the point that in some aspects i will be taking a step back wards

As much as I love the mk4 r32 (friend has a big turbo 500bhp) I wouldn't swap your mk5 for it.

You got to think about why your friend wants to swap it?

Sound is lovely but it's mark 4 which means poorer handling as only from mk5 the suspension and handling was much improved....

If only it was mk5 r32

My advice whatever you gain on the noise you will lose on driving pleasure.... I would stick to mk5!
