Hi,
Sorry if this has been discussed before.
Looking to get some winter wheels for my gti. Just want to confirm that 16 inch would be ok to use and it will cover the breaks?
Do you guys recommend getting some mk5 16 alloys or I have seen some steel wheel with tyres packages on eBay.
Thanks

Yes 16s will fit. The A3 2.0T was available with 16s from the factory in SE trim and has the same brakes
-
Check my tyres. They offer the steel wheel and winter tyre packages with Nankang sv2 for £400 deliverd
Or some better branded ones for slightly more
I was going to be ordering them but a set of Audi alloys with winter tyres came up for sale locally at a good price

I ran the Kuhmo KW27 winters last year and they were excellent for the money. :happy2:
-
I picked up a set of 17" Gti wheels with a couple of marks on them and have run them for two winters, they are OME (so no insurance issues) easiest wheel in the world to clean & they look great, just like my summer wheels, but smaller :signLOL:

I got some part worn continental winters for about £120 and then my steels were only £18 off ebay for 4. I then got them powdercoated to make them more durable.

...........how do you find the condition of the red calipers when they have been under a set of steels all winter & prob not been cleaned for months?. :happy2:

Im a derv so dont have them! I can imagine they would get that dirty, just bilberry them when you swap over for summer
-
Any particular reason you want to run 16" for the winter? I'm running 17" Monzas with my winter tyres.
-
^^^ cheaper tyres possibly?
-
Thanks guys for the suggestions.
No particularly looking for 16's, just thought that this was the norm.
Going to keep an eye out for a set.

I think 16"s would look a bit pants on a GTi. I'm running 225/45R17 on 17" original GTi Monzas I bought on eBay. Very practical and sensible size tyre to buy but still look good.

My purple 15inch steels are awesome!

Just so you get an idea, this was mine last year on 16" Imolas. The main reason I went for 16's was because they were cheaper and so are tyres. I'm also looking for a set of OEM 17's due to a possible brake upgrade in the future.

Will your Imola's be up for sale anytime soon? Thinking of getting a set to put on my car to sell as I sold mine, and keep the Classix for winters on my next car (for the same bigger brake reason).
-
They will be eventually but probably not this winter just because I'm also saving for a holiday in Florida in march so having to do little bits at a time. Would would you be needing them just out of interest?

I don't need them as such, but as 17s are so expensive I'm thinking of keeping my current Classix for the next car (it'll have 345mm brakes) and putting on some good condition Imola's as they were original to mine.
If I go this route I'd need a set within a week or two as I plan to sell the car at the end of the month once it has 13 months MOT.

Ok no probs. Tbh the ones I have are not in the best of condition. Think I paid £150 for them and they could all do with a refurb. At the time it didn't matter what they looked like too much. As long as they were round being winters and that. Bought them to keep my fragile Charlestons away from the gritted when they decide to go abit mad with the salt.
-
I wish I'd kept mine as they'd have gone straight onto our Altea too, they all look a bit messy with the whiteworm after a while.
Will keep my eyes peeled, got a set of OEM 16" steels here that I won't be using but can't sell the car with those on!
