Hey,
Last night when starting up the GTI on my way home, there was a bit of a rattling noise. Here is a video of it which I took this morning -
The rattling seems louder when I give some more throttle, but it wasn't dead and power wise engine seemed to be as normal... usual performance etc..
Now, I believe its something to do with the alternator tensioner/pulley; and obviously the alternator belt since there is a slight split in it from where it seems to be getting extra wear at a point about 2mm from the edge.
But on my searches here I see people reporting a similar noise with timing belt tensioners, timing belt issues etc.. I had the timing belt/waterpump all replaced a few hundred miles ago (can you tell I always seem to expect the worst!!) . Please try to reassure me?

would be unlikely to be a faulty cambelt kit but never say never. sounds very much like a timeing chain rattle to me??

For a. Start you need a new belt and the tensioner is supposed to move like that

Listening to that i wouldn't drive it anywhere incase of damaging it to much but id suggest getting it towed to a garage to be looked at it sounds like a pulley is loose.
