Title: Question for those with Hella or Depo Xenon type lights

Well two questions:

1)   Do the Hella / Depo headlights have autoleveling installed? (I had Depo on my E46 bmw which did but not sure if the golf ones have the same?)

2)   For those who use HID kits in them:
                a.   Anyone running 35W kits? How do you find them?
                b.   Anyone running 55W kits? How do you find them?

Personally I think there shouldn’t be a problem with running HID kits if the headlights have autoleveling as I know the Depos I have on the BMW worked very well and you could see the autoleveling kicking in e.g. when you are on an incline.

As far as I'm aware the auto leveller is a sensor mounted at the rear of the car (it's on the rear beam on touran's) kind of like a load compensator. It's not built into the headlights themselves.

I don't think adaptive headlights work like this (I may be wrong), I understood the rear axle sensor to be for extra load in the rear of the car rather than for dips and inclines in the road.

Self-leveling headlights themselves have an additional level sensor that determines if the car is tilted forward or back. For example, if a car is driving over a large bump, when the front of the car hits the bump, it lifts up. Standard headlights would briefly point up into the sky until the rear of the car moved over the bump and the car returned to a level position. With a self-leveling system, electric servomotors react to the level sensor and keep the headlights aimed down at the road, no matter the position of the car.

I have the Hellas

There is level adjustment from the switch inside the cab

Not alto levelling.

I'm running hids they were in there when I bought the lights they are 35w but are really poor I pulled them out last night and found they are h7r bulbs so rubbish in a projector. Put standard bulbs in which are loads better. while I order some more hids

Thought about 55w but have heard they can damage lens and plastics?

What's difference between H7 and H7R?

I remember putting a 35W 6000k HID kit on my pads passat with its standard projector headlights and the light output was really bad.

I've also read where people suggest 55W could melt the housing but never actually come across any chases where people are say it HAS melted the housing!! Also some contradictory views about 55W running cooler than 35W. Personally I don't understand all that which is why I wanted to see if anyone has these lights (Depo in particular) and is running 55W.

I've bought Depos and thinking about taking the plunge with a 55W 6000k hid kit.

Other question I had was if 55W kits need to be Canbus? (given that standard halogen draw down is 55W)

H7R is for reflector headlights and not projectors

I thought of running 55w but not to sure
