Lots of thing that not many people I would imagine on here will be into.
James Taylor.
Stevie Wonder.
Ella Fitzgerald.
Frank Sinatra.
Basically, just great vocalists. :-)
That's pretty much been my playlist the last few days.
-
Like a bit of Frank Rich.
Used to drive round the streets of Karachi like a madman with it blaring out.
-
The girlfriend! Telling me to get out of bed to snow and 2.5 degrees, bloody dog!! (Hound variety not the girlfriend :signLOL:)

Nothing wrong with Frank Sinatra and James Taylor, but not a massive fan of Stevie Wonder.

Yep, A Strangely Isolated Place is my favourite album from him, in particular the track Clear Day.
-
Of Monsters and men.
And The Who. :pomppomp:
Ask yourself this!. Does an intro to a song get better than this? I think not. :notworthy:
-
Frank Turner (permanent fixture on the playlist)
Jake Bugg
Of Monsters and Men
The Heavy
Fiona Clayton
Cast
Happy Mondays, Pills thrills and bellyaches - forgotten what a superb album that is.

....Gosh! You have very similar tastes in music to myself. I have only recently discovered 'Of Monsters and Men' :notworthy:
But recently I've been listening a lot to this Chilled Trance:
[ Invalid YouTube link ]
^ A set mixed by a Russian lady called Yuliya.
It's a kinda 'cheesy' sound but some cheeses are delicious!
-
In the car? Glittering Prize , Simple Minds best of , and in the house I just downloaded 'Halfway to Paradise' by Billy Fury off iTunes , dont like no modern sh*te.
-
.
In the car? - I never listen to any music or radio - I prefer to focus 100% on driving no matter how long the journey and that includes 500-milers and over.
At home (My living room is a studio with pro reference monitors, mixing desk etc) - Lots of music. Often while I'm on the forum like now, sat in the sweet spot.
The trouble is that if I particularly am enjoying a track the volume gets slid louder!
-
Soungarden - Superunknown. Forgot how good that album is. And also the new Band Of Horses album.
-
Deadmau5 >album title goes here<

Memory tapes
Cut copy
Beach house

didn't know you liked EDM Robin? I had you down more as a rocker into Slash and AC/DC maybe??
Am not too keen on the vocal in Big Sky but the Ben Gold mix is quite good :happy2:
-
^^^^
I love EDM but also AC/DC - This one in particular:
^ What an audience!! :notworthy:

I'm currently listening to a lot of Andrew Weatherall's favourite music. He's the most innovative British DJ of the last 25 years, was heavily involved with the start up and progression of UK house music through Shoom, Junior Boy's Own, Sabresonic, and the Two Lone Swordsman.
Albums I'm currently really into of his:
Fabric 19
Nine O'Clock Drop
Masterpiece - Andrew Weatherall (3 disc Ministry of Sound release)
The sabres of Paradise - Haunted Dancehall
Stay Down - 2 Lone Swordsman
Watch the Ride - Andrew Weatherall
The music is so innovative, and whilst a lot of the above are him mixing the work of others, a huge amount of the tracks have been revolutionised by his own remixes of them, or are tracks of his own production. He's my absolute DJ hero, and was almost single handedly resposnisble for getting Indy-Dance going in the early 90's with heavily reworked tracks by James, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, The Cure, Stone Roses etc.

ahhh a man who can appreciate all music :happy2: i used to listen to brit pop (blur, oasis, dodgy) then got into rock and heavy metal and have been to see Metallica etc but then got into electronic dance music and it bit me and i bought decks and started to dj. I think you should open minded and be able to appreciate lots of music. At my wedding last year i was in charge of all the music and wanted classical followed by the overtones and michael buble followed by some user friendly dance music
-
^^^^
I think it's a pity when people only appreciate the music of their generation - It's as if they only appreciate it by association with what they were up to at that time (usually being single and hunting girls or when first in love).
Good music is good music if it still moves your body or your soul - It should always play your emotions from aggressive rock to tearful ballads.
-
I must admit I think I've got a very varied music taste, pretty much changed with what was popular at the time but still love it all now, anything from 80's rock, old skool hip hop, hardcore rave and house, brit pop/rock, indie through to modern guitar bands and folk music....hell I even love a bit of last night of the proms!!!!!!
-
Some of the ones that are currently on my car playlist (I do like a wide variety):
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Fredrik - Chrome Cavities
The Script feat. Will.i.am - Hall of fame
Enur feat. Natasja - Calabria
Rihanna feat. Jay-Z - Talk that talk
The Chemical Brothers - Galvanize
Evanescence - Bring me to life
Jay-Z & Kanye West - Ni**as in Paris
Angel - Wonderful
-
Camo & crooked - between the lines, album
Swedish house mafia - untill now, album

Top album and band. Not got Rubber Factory, any good?
I've been listening to a fair bit of Wilco recently, as well as the Keys. Pretty much the antithesis of them live as there's about 8 of them on stage!
-
^^^^
Nice guitar work on that Wilco song :notworthy:
[Not as good as Prince though!]
^ A song written by Beatle George Harrison (whose son looks scarily like him!).
That performance still raises the hairs on my back! Prince is a genius and master of style.

This unforgettable and award-winning video from Iceland, conceived by and supervised by the musical group, Sigur Ros and the filmmaker, Agust Jacobsson, features the Perlan special-needs theatre group acting out a simple but beautiful play about the elements.
"The word "Yugen", found only in the Japanese language is defined as: an awareness of the Universe that triggers emotional responses too deep and mysterious for words. Sigur Ros has captured "Yugen".
-
Currently my favourite driving track.
-
Right this moment I'm listening to "Rollin' and Tumblin" from Eric Clapton Unplugged :notworthy:

Today has been a Nick Cave day. The man is an utter genius, and a big hero of mine. I don't think there are many people who convey such raw emotion through their songs.

....I like them too :happy2:
Do you also like Shalamar and Jodie Watley?
Sugababes have also done some fine recordings - More downbeat and sultry, and a million times better than Girls Aloud:
^ Something to particularly enjoy at 1:11  but not their best track by a long way.
Then there's Prince's proteges TLC - More funky and very sexy"
^ Much more Black and funky :notworthy:
^ Beautiful :notworthy: My daughter saw Beyonce at Glastonbury and said she was amazing.

This is my very favourite Phil Collins track and performance of it:
-
Gated snare.... The sound of the 1980s!!!

Gated snare.... The sound of the 1980s!!!
....That's the difference between you and I: You hear the gated snare and I don't - I just hear the sound and my brain doesn't bother to analyse what's making it.
I think I recognised Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music) on lead guitar on "In The Air Tonight".

The new LP from ZZ Top:

As a producer I would have thought that your brain would ask questions like that Robin. Its such an iconic sound.... I love it, but its very dated.

Listening to the black keys - off to Glasgow to see them later tonight.

....I'm not a professional commercial producer but just get involved in producing and co-producing (with someone with decades of experience, Stevie) our own recordings, some of which then get professionally mastered to broadcasting standards. Stevie can recognise the detail of the stuff you are talking about but my strength is in the overview and mix. I obviously recognise when something sounds typical of an era but I very rarely know why.
One of the reasons why Stevie loves working with me is that I never set out with any preconceptions about what sound we are trying to achieve. It's why we've got Keith Richards quote on our latest album:

Lotta' fun and so many great memories.........
This is so neat!
It's sort of a time machine of music.
Each of the years below connect to that year that is special to you, including the best 20 hits of that year.
Pick a year, wait a few seconds, and the Jukebox will show you the 20 hits (Just like a Jukebox of "the day" would).
You can play all 20 hits, or just those that you like.
It will also tell you all of the cool stuff that happened that year.
So, check out the year you graduated from high school, you were born, got married, etc. great memories!
Take an awesome trip back to "the day... your day".
Hope you enjoy playing with this very cool toy!
Just "CLICK A YEAR" and have fun.

While I complete the artwork for the forum 2013 calendar....
The Who "Who's Next". Keith Moon! :notworthy: It still sounds great, a bit dated, but still great.
^ Wonderful nutters! :notworthy:
-
^^^^ brilliant! Classics are never dated IMO, its all fine wine...
4 legends, all of them. Each one has a case for being the greatest at what they do (or did). Just watched a rerun of the Sandy Concert and they were bloody good as were most of the other performers.
They've still got it, a wee bit less nuts though...
The who - Pinball Wizard :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Plus a few others from the concert..
Eric Clapton - Crossroads :notworthy: :notworthy:
Roger Waters & Eddie Vedder - Comfortably Numb :notworthy:
That'll do but there were many more classics on a night of "old timers". Chris Martin was very good too but not convinced by the Nirvana/Macca collaboration though.
:happy2:

Totally improvised - We had only just met for the first time and never ever played a note together before.
Unknown to me, someone video'd it....
