I've been looking around on america tuning websites!!
K04 conversion $2500.... - £1600
K04 conversion here £2250
Feel like we're getting finger F*****!
-
:congrats: :happy2: yes we are indeed :sad1:
-
It's been like that since the Stone Age...rip off Britain
-
I wanna know why!? :S i feel the tuning scene would be much better in the UK if these were the prices?!
It's not like our Corp tax is much different...
oh wait it's nearly 10% different in our favour!!
-
Product tax in many US states = 6%
VAT = 20%
-
Feel like we're getting finger F*****!
move to the us then
-
I'd feel I was getting 'finger f********' If I went to JKM!
I know they are bloody good, but there are a lot of other bloody good VAG forced induction specialists that are less well known, cheaper, but amazing nonetheless. I think a lot of UK tuners do over-charge.
Take my tuners, Storm Developments in Aldermaston. They charge 300 for one of their own excellent (or a great PDT) Stage 1 remaps. I'm only running REVO because of an ECU issue. There is no way the Revo map is worth double the price! They said they can get me an awesome stainless steel full turbo cat back exhaust system for £500. They regularly supercharge Audi S5's RS5's R8's and have been going for a long time. Go and take a look at the cars there! Andy & Alex are incredibly experienced and knowledgeable. They don't advertise as they get too much work, so they are not as well known as other tuners. They are completely trustworthy, and genuine enthusiasts, and will only ever offer you the best advice based on what's best for you and your car, not what's best for their pockets. Finding them through Dave @ PDT was a God-send!

They are soon expanding though, and going from 2 ramps to 4, and I think they are taking on more mechanics, so watch this space. i shall certainly continue to sing their praises and can't recommend them highly enough. :happy2:

But you can get a 5 bed house with swimming pool and double garage in Florida area for £100k .......... or less :innocent:
-
LoL i think that's slightly ambitious ! haha 100k? lol !
But on the serious side is it potentially worth importing products from the US for that kinda price? Whats import tax here? on something like a k04 conversion so $2000
-
.
At 20%, the wretched inequitable vat which is the biggest part of the problem :fighting:
Importing from outside the EEC will attract 20% vat plus usually a £12 handling fee < Feckers!!!! :fighting: And then you have to wait forever while the UK postal 'service' sends you a snailmail demand for the tax to be paid. They call it "duty". Well it ain't my duty to pay those feckers for doing nothing in return for legally stealing my money. [/rant]

Unless your VAT registered, in which case you wont pay VAT on import and if you dont sell it (IE you fit it to your own car) you dont pay VAT. :happy2:

UK Market overpriced :signLOL:?
Consider the below
BMW 135i UK web price 29995 GBP
BMW 135i Irish web price 48420 EUR
Fecking VRT in Ireland!

^^^ VRT-What an absolute disgrace.

^^^ VRT-What an absolute disgrace.
vehicle registartion tax depending on CO2 emissions, since 135i is not a very economical car the gap between UK and Irish prices is huge for some low emission diesel it would be much smaller. For 188 CO2 it's 28% of vehicle value! The lowest is 14%!
Don't even get me started on annual road tax on top of that!

UK market has been overpriced for decades at least. I recall Photoshop v4 (approx mid 90s) having the same price tag but just a £ instead of a $ rather than being the equivalent price.
-
If you think it's expensive here you should see what everything costs in Norway! £9 for 300ml of beer
But they get decent wages!
Everything is expensive here compared to the wages we get.
But I also find there is a GTI tax on most tuning parts as other marques get the equivalent mods for much less

I lived in Singapore from 2000-2002 and it was £9 a Pint back then, however if you drove over the border to Johor Bahru you could pick up
10 cases on the cheapa case of 24 cans for £12 :signLOL:
I looked at buying a car when I was there, had £30k (GBP) in my account and all I could afford was a 1.0 Fiat Punto (Cars are STUPIDLY EXPENSIVE over there), bought a YZF R-1 instead for 9K as Bike prices were almost the same as UK Bike Prices :signLOL:
