Well I think it's about time I showed my face around here after about 18 months in the dark. I opened a new business about 10 months ago and I've spent most of my living minutes in work hence the silence :fighting:
Anyways after all the hard work I decided to treat myself to a new car.
Looked at many options and initially wanted an R8 V8 (Couldn't quite stretch to the V10) but after numerous test drives I felt slightly underwhelmed. The chassis is an absolute peach, and the looks speak for themselves but the engine felt gutless. With limited tuning options and sky high insurance I decided I would have to wait a few years for a V10. Then I test drove a Cayman R. Loved the car but again performance felt weak and I couldn't come to an agreement with Porsche on the price so canned that one. Then there was the GTR, again a complete weapon but high running costs and silly insurance that was out of the question! So back to the drawing board.
My car at the time was a Revo Stage 2 TTRS. I had a hankering for a TTRS S-Tronic after having an S3 S-Tronic for a while. After a few phone calls and an hour of haggling I had got a cracking deal on a TTRS Plus S-Tronic with a great spec.
I picked it up on Monday and the S-Tronic makes the car. It feels soooo much better than the manual I had in my last one. Gear changes are instaneous and the pops and farts it makes are brilliant! Here are a few pics of my old cars, the old TTRS and finally the new TTRS!

Initial plans are to get these on:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fll213%2FT88OMM%2F8FE4C621-6D6B-4710-AA81-7D76645F34B6-2724-0000034788F1F926.jpg&hash=3a76768eb628e143bc6491b98dc416eb81a93ada)
I have an ITG Intake, Milltek secondary cat bypass pipes aswell as a gutted downpipe ready to go on. The engine really does sound incredible running a complete decat and the performance increase is noticeable. I need to get it mapped ASAP as it feels like a complete slouch compared to the old one
Thats about it for now. I'll keep the thread up to date when any changes are made. I plan to keep this one for a while and go a little bit mad with it
Tom

Did you try the new Exige S V6?
I want one of those so so badly! Are they out yet?
You have the best colour Tom, it's the colour I wanted but didn't have the patience for a Fresh factory order!

I want one of those so so badly! Are they out yet?
I think a few dealers have them - I looked at a white one at Lotus JCT600 in Leeds. Really stunning car.

None are produced yet, just the initial few press cars. 'Allegedly' the production line has just started again and dealer cars are due early December with customer cars Jan/Feb, though i would not hold your breath. I test drove the V6 a couple of months ago and it was pretty fast, but you cant really tell on a road what it is capable of. It is the Bosch ECU work that makes it special. Apparently You can keep it floored in the wet or dry without lifting off and the car will just go round the corner. It is said that you cant go faster by switching all the aids off and putting a proper driver in it. :driver:
Good to have you visiting us again Tom. :happy2:
I imagine once mapped your new one will be ridiculously fast off the line.
-
Welcome back Tom. You've chewed through a few cars there!

Car looks great - interesting also to hear your views on the R8 v8 compared to a mapped TTRS..
New rims look good too - neuspeeds?

There are many debates flying round the web between the R8 V8 vs TTRS.
My personal opinion is that the R8 has the TT licked in almost every department, as standard cars. There is not a lot in straight line speed, but that's about where it ends. The R8 has a proper Quattro system as opposed to the haldex of the TT, which is much more satisfying when having fun in the twisties. Looks, interior and presence of the R8 are just the dogs. The engine of the V8 is its weak point. Sounds lovely but for a car that looks like its doing 100 standing still it just doesn't have the grunt. If I wanted to get the performance that I believe the V8 deserves, you are looking at supercharging/turboing and your looking at £10k plus before your started. Hence me going for the TT, it's much cheaper to run overall, insurance, tyres etc etc, plus devasting performance can come from the TT relatively inexpensively :
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tAiNs-7tUmk
I like to modify my cars and make them my own, unfortunately I don't have the £'s to make the R8 what I want it to be, nor the money for a V10 which is the one to have IMO. The TT suits me perfectly for now, it's never gonna be an R8, but it surprises almost everyone which is one of the most appealing things about it for me.
Yeah the wheels are Neuspeed. I'm surprised these are not that common. They don't weigh a lot and look preety well and they ain't that expensive.
Tom
-
I agree as i was lucky to run a R8 V8 for about 6 months and when it went in for a new radio they left me a brand new TTRS.
The R8 will be more or less pegged in a striaght line by a well modified edition 30 if it catches you unaware, but round the corners its awesome, you can play with motorbikes on a twisty roads like the ones we have in the lake district.
The TTRS is as fast in a striaght line but does not handle as sweetly, in fact the TTRS beat the R8 around the test track evo magazine use.
-
R8 brakes are pretty easy on a TTRS....
Just finishing off this kit for the TTRS and S3
Rear Ceramics on your TT.......hmmmmmm......fronts are dead easy done them already

Give me a shout when your free Dave. I need to get rid of this non directional bollocks
-
So just ticked past 3k in her now and she's fully bedded in. The gearbox really does make this car, feels so much better than my previous manual. I'm slowly accruing parts to be able to build da boost to get dem bitches wet blad.. :jumping:
First up I had my Milltek secondary decat pipes installed. They really do compliment the OEM sports exhaust. Sounds frightening on WOT up shifts, the bangs are hilarious! Little teaser..

Next up I have these little puppies going on. R8 V10 front calipers in Sepang Blue on a custom DaveB AP 362mm disc. Will look awesome behind the wheels and should improve braking performance considerably! Should be going on in the next week or two.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fll213%2FT88OMM%2F0484F96C-EB0F-4930-872C-7757A2D47CD8-3387-00000801A2CD86C3_zps47d752d0.jpg&hash=a942c1f268768869153214aef8fae65688c11471)
I also picked up a second hand DP. Shall be decatting that so I can go straight to S2. Much cheaper than going the aftermarket TBE route, this will perform just aswell at a fraction of the price.

Then I started wrapping the ITG intake pipe in gold heat tape, but ended up running out halfway through! FAIL!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fll213%2FT88OMM%2F9D0AB172-DC19-450B-8E30-4A4B2A95CE30-3387-000007FEAAE52896_zps3d2095e4.jpg&hash=ff15b38aa45eb59d276706170ceacab874e28ca3)
Will finish it when I have shelled out another £40 for some more roll :fighting2:
Future plans include, lots of carbon for the inside and outside, get some springs and ARB's on to tighten things up a bit and also putting my Neuspeeds on. Slowly getting there now.... :popcornsoda:
-
very nice Tom. :happy2: I was looking at the TT shops TTRS a couple of years ago and the interior was full of carbon. It was one of the nicest interiors i have ever seen. They had some gauges built in as well which looked amazing. :happy2:
-
Damn... that sounds fantastic.

Cheers Peanut.
Yeah their TT has an awesome interior. Will be buying most of the bits off them, and painting stuff like the air vent surrounds and door handles the body colour. Looking forward to it as the TT interior is started to feel a little dated now!
-
looking forward to putting it all together this week tom! Got an RS6 in before yours for Loba discs and Pagid Pads too! ;)

My pal has just swapped his manual Suzuka TTRS for an S-Tronic one, to say he's a bit excited is an understatement! Can't wait to have a go in it! He's got the Milltek Race system, ITG intake and REVO! Fookin weapon!

Cheers John, it's getting there! Trying to get on here a bit more, but the madness that has ensued since having to grow up makes it difficult
Nice to see you are up to your usual tricks, I think I shall be visiting Stattlers soon for a few bits and pieces, I'll give you a shout, would love to have a nosey round yours
-
Yes, it would be good to meet up. I'm usually around Statllers at some point as I only live 4 miles away, so if/when you do visit them drop me a PM :happy2:

Damn I do like the TTRS and absolutely loving this. When I was at VW HQ the other week, they had one parked up, and even as standard looked perfect. Yours in going to sweeeet!
Good luck and looking forward to seeing this progress :)
