Title: MOT + Service today at VW
Post by: Panthera on November 28, 2012, 08:30:48 pm
Today I had my GTi booked in for its MOT and major service at VW and she passed!  I had a 'loverly' 1.4 petrol Polo as a courtesy car - lots of leg room, not much headroom though for me as I am 6ft 4".  Anyway, whilst the car was in their possession I asked them to investigate a squeak on cold start up. They later informed me that it is the cambelt and pulley that needs replacing as it is due.  When I enquired as to how much it was to replace, I almost fell off my chair with disgust!  I am going to call a few local VAG specialists tomorrow for a price.

Is it rude to ask how much they quoted?

Mine is going in tomorrow. I was quoted:

£399 Cam Belt
£80 Extra for the water pump (no additional labour required)

£259 Major Service (60K)
£39 MOT

From Listers Volkswagen Nuneaton

As FRODO_ANNI says - Fixed Price Servicing!

I did get a quote from a local garage of either £305 or £390 depending on whether the kit he gets has the right tensioner. Then it would be extra for the water pump (don't know how much). Obviously filled me with confidence.
I went back to work and booked it into VW! Plus they give a 2 year warranty.

Such as short service schedule for the Cam Belt... my old Focus was 100k

£350-£400 seems about right, esp. from a stealers.

I was quite impressed by the stealers complete run down of things that needed doing when I got my car, with blown diagrams and part numbers... I just ended up doing the whole lot myself from 2nd parts on eBay and saved about £600; coded up with VCDS, happy days. :)

I contacted VAG Tech, Milton Keynes, via their contact us page thursday evening (after hours) for a price on a Cambelt, water pump and tensioners. I get a call Friday morning with the answer and I have the car booked in with them next week.  £360 all in for the complete kit. Thats a bit better than £589.42 from VW 'Steakers'!
