Title: Rattling Exhaust and Turbo Whine
Post by: zebra3 on December 26, 2012, 10:39:44 pm
I think the cat is rattling in my exhaust and going over 3000 rpm I'm getting a lot of turbo whine, also car seems underpowered.

What are my options...?

Hi!

Do you have access to any fault code readers/ VCDS

See if there are any fault codes stored.

It could be as simple as the divertor/dump valve that could need replacing.

When I first got my Gti it felt a bit low on power and it turned out that the rubber in my divertor valve had torn causing a boost leak

I don't have a code reader, it has just been serviced and garage thinks it might be a loose cat (exhaust rattle is a metal on metal sound).

I don't know about the exhaust as I have not had any experience with a ratteling cat.

Did they not scan your car as part of the service?

You might be able to find someone local to you if you look in the VCDS section there is a register of members with VCDS in the first post

Cheers for the info

If the exhaust has had it i.e cat stuffed, can anyone recomend a decent replacement that will pass the MOT, emissions etc

If you are planning to tune the car at any point this will be ideal

You could then buy the rear of the exhaust later on and have a full 3" system
